Chapter 2

Author: Hans Golden
After I emerged from the water, Ethan immediately rushed over and held Leo. As for his mate, who had just returned from Shadow River, he just glanced at me. He seemed to want to approach me, but Serafina pulled him away.

I was just about to get ashore when I felt a pressure on my ankle, as if it were being tightly grasped by a cold hand.

Lily was so scared that she burst into tears and tried to catch me, but she could not reach me. "Dad, hurry and save Mom! Something in the water is grabbing her!"

A trace of panic flashed in Ethan's eyes. Just as he was about to turn his head and walk toward me, Serafina held him firmly.

"Ethan, Clara is a Spirit Soother and the best swimmer in the pack. How could anything go wrong? I think this is just another trick to get your attention and make you pity her."

Ethan paused, and a trace of realization flashed across his face. "I see. Fortunately, you reminded me."

Having said that, he shouted at me, who was struggling in the water, "Clara, stop it! Come up quickly! Leo is still unconscious. We can't handle it all. Stop causing more trouble, okay?"

The murky river water filled my mouth and nose. I could no longer speak and could only let the strange force drag me to the bottom of the river. At the last moment when the river water flooded my view, I saw Ethan gently embracing the weeping Serafina and soothing her softly.

My numb heart froze completely. It turned out that all those years of mutual support were no match for the regret of not being able to get what you wanted.

Scenes from the past flashed before my eyes.

I managed the pack for him, took care of his mother for him, gave up the chance to inherit my family's legacy for him, and worked hard to become a worthy Luna. All my effort was ultimately nothing compared to a drop of Serafina's tears.

I suddenly lost all hope of living and let my body sink.

"Mom! Mom!" Suddenly, Lily's heartbreaking cry dispelled all my despair and awakened my will to live.

I could not die. If I did, what would become of Lily?

I had to take a gamble, so I immediately held my breath and followed the force, letting myself sink to the bottom of the river.

The riverbed was littered with rusty silver artifacts left by predecessors. I picked up a dagger and slashed at my left wrist without hesitation.

Blood instantly dyed the water red, and the force that had been grabbing me vanished. We Spirit Soothers had been dealing with river spirits for generations, and the one we revered the most was the Moon Goddess.

My elders had once said that if you were bound to the river, it meant the Moon Goddess had taken a fancy to something you had and was refusing to let you leave. The only way to break free was to exchange something you held most precious for it.

For our family, the most important thing was these hands that could communicate with the living and the dead.

A hand in exchange for a life was worth it.

After struggling to climb ashore, I could not hold on any longer and passed out from the blood loss.

When I woke up again, I was already lying in my room in the manor.

Only Lily was beside me. My injured wrist was bandaged sloppily. It was clearly not done by a healer.

Tears welled up in Lily's eyes, and her childish voice was heartbreakingly hoarse. "I went to find a healer, but Serafina stopped me. She said Leo hadn't woken up, and there aren't any extra healers to treat your wound. Dad actually believed her.

"Not wanting to disobey Dad, an elderly healer secretly gave me a bottle of hemostatic potion and told me to apply it to your wound and bandage it tightly with a cloth. He said this would temporarily save you..."

I endured the excruciating pain in my wrist and smiled, praising Lily, "Lily, you did a great job. You saved me."

Lily finally burst into laughter.

After putting Lily to sleep, Alva Lamington happened to return. She looked at my mangled wrist, her eyes turning red. "Luna, let me find you a trustworthy healer first."

I grabbed her, anxiously asking, "How was it with the Council of Elders?"

Alva shook her head. "The elders are out inspecting the territory today and won't be back until tomorrow morning to stamp it. You should rest and recuperate first tonight. I'll retrieve the documents tomorrow morning, and we'll leave immediately."

I nodded. "Okay, we'll wait another night."

I thought we could wait until dawn in peace, but Ethan and Serafina unexpectedly barged into my room at midnight. A hint of reluctance crossed his face, but he finally spoke after Serafina's prompting. "Clara, I'm afraid I have to trouble you to get into the water again..."

  • Bury Me Alive   Chapter 9

It was recorded in the ancient scroll that there was only one way to crack this life-exchange formation. That was to swap the identities of the caster and the victim and restart the formation. Only in this way could the formation be completely broken. However, the price was that both participants had to die.In other words, even if Ethan had not killed Leo, he would not survive tonight.Ethan looked at me in terror and asked in disbelief, "So, you knew from the very beginning that I would die?"I shrugged my shoulders. "Yeah. You've hurt me for so long. Why should I still save you?"Ethan laughed out of extreme agony. "Then, why did you still agree to marry me?"I picked up the mate bond agreement and shook it. "For this, of course. Only when I'm your legitimate Luna again can everything the Glory Pack owns belong to me and Lily."Ethan knew he was dying, so he stopped being furious. Instead, he calmly asked, "Clara, I know you're not someone who craves wealth and power. Why are

This time, the Moon Goddess probably took pity on my misfortune and did not make things difficult for me again. She might also be disgusted with Ethan's current state, so she refused to take him in.In short, I pulled him out smoothly.…The next day, Serafina came to the door with the pack's warriors.Ethan had regained his youth overnight, which made her understand everything at once. She wanted to stop us before Leo's and Ethan's identities were completely reversed. Fortunately, I was well-prepared.The elders in the village rushed forward immediately, subduing them and imprisoning them in the cellar. They cried for help, but no one responded.Ethan regained his appearance and identity, taking control of the Glory Pack again. However, he was smarter this time. The first thing he did was to beat Leo and Serafina to death with a wooden stick soaked in wolf venom.Even so, he was still not at ease. He invited another dark wizard to dismember their corpses into eight pieces, pla

Three days later, I left with Lily and Alva while Ethan was kicked out of the manor. The world knew nothing about this. All that they knew was that the Alpha of the Glory Pack had argued with the Luna, and she had gone back to her hometown.Ethan became Leo, a loser whom everyone detested. The debt collectors chased him and even broke his legs. However, I still went to see him for the last time and gave him some money. His dim eyes suddenly lit up again as he gripped my leg, refusing to let go. “Clara, you remember me, don't you?”Without hiding anything from him, I nodded and answered, "Yes. Apart from Leo and Serafina, who performed the formation, perhaps only I still remember you."Ethan smiled. "I knew you wouldn't forget me. My mother used to say that true love could overcome all magic. It's true!"I sneered, "Don't get me wrong. This has nothing to do with love."I waved my injured left hand and explained, "I remember you because my blood seeped into the formation that da

Early the next morning, the commotion outside woke up Lily and me.I asked Alva, who had just come in with water, what had happened. She snorted disdainfully. "Luna, Leo has lost his mind. He's telling everyone he meets that he's the Alpha. The Alpha is handsome and powerful. How could an ugly bastard like him pretend to be him?I immediately realized what had happened. I told Alva to take good care of Lily and went out alone.A disheveled Ethan saw me and rushed in front of me as if he had grasped a lifeline. He shook my shoulders nonstop. "Clara, has everyone in the manor been bribed by Leo? Why do they call him Alpha but call me Mr. Leo?"I pushed him away and calmly explained, "This is the reality I said you'd have to face. Leo has swapped fates with you. From now on, he's Alpha Ethan of the Glory Pack. Whether it's pack members, outsiders, or even Lily, they won't recognize you anymore. You're Leo to them."Ethan did not believe me and eagerly grabbed a passing servant, tryi

I smiled and asked Serafina, "I promised you that I would never interfere in your affairs. But I'm indeed a bit curious. If you don't mind, can I have a look?"Serafina nodded. "Once this formation is activated, there's no turning back. Even if Ethan knows the truth, it'll still be too late to change the situation. Besides, as a woman, I actually feel sorry for you. You should explain to him and let him know what's going on."I arrived at the room he was in.Ethan lay on the cold ground. No servant dared to approach him. After I approached, Serafina dismissed everyone and gave us some space to be alone.Although I had heard of dark magic like life exchange, this was the first time I had witnessed it with my own eyes. I thought that I could remain calm in the face of anything after seeing so much about life and death. I never expected Ethan's current appearance to make me shiver involuntarily. He lay on his side on the ground, his body curled up into a ball. His jet-black hair had

Serafina was a little hesitant. "How do I know you won't play tricks behind my back?"I chuckled bitterly. "You saw with your own eyes how Ethan treats me and Lily. Serafina, would you stay by his side if you were me?"Serafina recalled Ethan's indifference and nodded. "Alright, I'll trust you this time. As long as you don't sabotage our plan, I promise to let you and your daughter go without stopping you."In fact, Leo was not Serafina's younger brother at all. He was the new mate she found after she left Ethan. Leo's fall into the river was not an accident either. Instead, it was a carefully planned transaction with the Moon Goddess.Ancient scrolls recorded that Shadow River was the only communication channel between werewolves and the Moon Goddess. The river water was the medium that could convey the werewolves' sacrifices to the Moon Goddess, so the ritual had to be carried out in the water. In my previous life, I found a sacrificial altar set up at the bottom of the river w
