Caro being stressed enough already, decided to stop by her aunt's place, her mother's sister, Mrs Antonia Jacob.

Immidiately she knocked on the door. Antonia opened last though she'd been waiting for her.

"Why are you here again? You shameless girl. And what did I hear you display at media house over Alex and Bella?"

Caro stood frozen. Staring at her and lips shaking. "Aunt I think you should let me speak."

"Shut up! You knew well that Bella's father is my business partner, and if he sees the stunt you played out there, he would terminate his contract with me, knowing you are my niece! How could you want to fight Bella, and Alex rescued the situation."

"Aunt ...."

"Keep quiet. Now listen to me. You'll go back there and apologize to Alex and Bella, if only you want to stay in this house. Else..."

Her daughter christable, surfaced through her back, striking me a disgusting stare, carrying the plate of food she was eating.

"I cannot apologize to Alex. Sorry. " caro cut in, buckled up, slamming those words hard. Antonia eyes widened.

"Then leave this house, don't ever come back here, take the rest of your thing that's left."

With tears in Caro's eyes, she spoke through storm. "Aunty you've taken the house away from me, which was the only thing my parents kept for me. Now you want to stop me entirely from coming inside? I suffered alone, seeing myself in school. You've never bought me anything. I did minimal jobs to see my self through, and visiting here once in a while to feel the memories of my late parents in me. Now you want it all gone? Because of some business over your own blood?"

But to Caro's shock. Christable creeped out of the tiny space behind Antonia.

"Now you have the house to yourself!" Christable barked like a dog, emptying the plate of spaghetti she was eating.

"Clean these mess before I return." Antonia roared to caro. She hissed and left. Her heels knocking hard in my heart.

"Mother why did you leave me in her hands?" Caro cried, questioning herself, deeply, soft , too low for anyone to hear but loud enough to herself. She glared at the spaghetti dripping down from her hair and felt disgusted, removing them from her hair with the tip of her finger. Tears rolled down freely. She let them flow, since they were too tough to hold back.

In a heartbeat, her phone rang out, jolting her out of her thoughts.

She responded while still on the filthy mess, a masculine voice spoke through.

"Dear miss Caroline Anderson,

This is Albert Mackery. We received your application for the position of company secretary and a personal assistant to the CEO of...."

"Sorry but I think this is a mistake. I never applied for a secretary job anywhere."

"Are you sure ? With a salary of ten thousand dollars. And more benefits alongside?...."

"What? Caro's jaw dropped.

"Oh I forgot, yes sir. When do I resume this job?"

"Come to the company tomorrow. Bye miss Caro."

What? Oh goodness!

Caro screamed loud to herself. Cleaned herself up in the bathroom, left her aunt's house to deal with that later.

*********

Few hours later, the cab stopped by Alex's house. Caro stepped down and opened the door.  She saw Alex walking forward and backwards. His eyes burnning like he wanted to unalive her.

"Where are you coming back from? And why aren't you taking your calls?"

"Caro glared at phone immidiately, seeing missed calls from Alex. She had been carried away with so much that she hadn't realized that. She ignored his questions and flinched.

"So that was your fake boyfriend? You want to use him and get back at me?" Alex paused for a moment, seeing how caro glanced at him. He walked to her slowly. "Listen Caro. Forget about everything. Everything. Just go up, freshen up and continue your duties in the house."

"And Bella?" Caro smirked.

Alex didn't speak immidiately, his lips tightened, curled like he held back a deep gasp.

"Ignore her. We need her to survive here. "

"No Alex. You need her to survive here. And you shamelessly put your disgusting act to my face."

Alex frowned. His eyes deepening as he approached her close. Gripping her neck. "Mind your words. I'm still your husband and you must obey me!"

His voice roared that he almost woke a sleeping Henry upstairs.

Caro quickly pulled herself from his grip. " No! I'm not more young wife. You signed the papers I gave you yesterday. I'm free now."

"What do you mean Caro? How and when?" Alex shocked.

FLASHBACK

That evenning after Bella left. Caro put Henry to sleep and went to her room. Opened the closet and took a brown file. She walked down the stairs slowly to the sitting room. Holding on her hands were papers and pen.

Her gaze caught Alex on the dinning table, seeing his food untouched before him, his eyes stuck in his phone. His horrible laughs pierced through Caro's heart. She halted by him.

"Alex I want to speak to you" Caro's voice landed with soft and broken sound.

But Alex barely noticed her, but he knows someone was behind him with the voice he's hearing but too busy to pull his stare away. He continued chatting and laughing like a clown.

And when Caro looked into the phone, it was Bella.

"I want you to sign this." Caro took out the papers, dropping them on the table for him.

Alex finally answered but still didn't shift his stare. "What is that? And where do I sign?"

Caro pointed at the place she needed him to sign, and he signed it immidiately without reading. Then continued laughing and chatting immidiately. Tears dropped down Caro's heart. Five years of faithfulness and hardwork had gone under the rain. He didn't care.

Look at him invested in the same ex wife, he said tore his heart.

"You'll regret this Alex." Caro's tears spoke louder than her words.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Alex stiffened hearing all those betraying words from Caro. "You took advantage of me in my vulnerable moment Caroline!"

"Well it doesn't matter. This is the first time you addressed me by my full name I five years... nevertheless, I'm not longer your wife and I'm leaving right now Alex. It's over.

Alex boiling but needed to play his dominance character over her. He barked and tried to scare her but she seemed fearless now.

Bella walked down slowly from upstairs. And Caro was shocked she'd been in there all these while.

"He's not going to beg you. You'd come back begging for his love and he won't accept you back." Bella yelled.

"Great then. Let's wait till then." Caro shut back.

Alex unsettled with what Bella said and didn't know how to approach caro.

Caro went upstairs to her room, and a phone call came in.

Samantha was on the line.

"I've been trying to reach you Samantha. What happened? We were supposed to meet Marcelo."

"I'm so sorry honey. I went out of town and I'm not back yet. I'll text you his address sweetie."

Just in, a message came in from the man who'd spoke earlier on.

Mr Albert Mackery.

' Dear miss Caro, on behalf of the company. I'm asked to to take you to Oscar de la Renta Boutique by 7 am in the morning tomorrow. There's a board meeting by 2 pm tomorrow. You're to look presentable. This is part of the benefits for the job. See you tomorrow.'

Caro's jaw dropped. She never believed she would ever shop from the most expensive boutique in the city. She'd only passed and admired the clothes from the transparent glasses.

  • Bye Alex! It's your loss   A man for a perfect timing.

Few days passed.Alex and Caro lived like strangers inside the house. She never stopped taking care of Henry. But no more wife duties for Alex. That morning, her fingers ran through her closet, searching for a suitable outfit to wear but found none. For the past five years she's been with Alex, he doesn't care about her. She couldn't even boast of one good dress, shoe or bag.Tears almost dropped out of her eyes. She swallowed hard. Bella had left that night after mocking her, Alex did nothing either. She needed to plan out a sweet revenge but how?On the spot, her fingers caught an old pink silky dress. A gift from her late mother. She fits it on her body, glaring at herself on the mirror. It didn't look new anymore but that could be a perfect one judging from her closet.Few days back, she had submitted her CVS in few companies waiting for a call back. Alex stopped her from working when they met, she accepted because she loved him but not any more! She's going back to her normal li

  • Bye Alex! It's your loss   4. Visit of the enemy

Then the front door swung open without knocking, and without shame not even fear.Bella walked in like she owned the place.Caro who's already ran down stairs waiting.Bella stood in the centre of the sitting room, glancing around the interiors like she was making sure Alex bought exactly her taste like she'd assigned him to.Her lipstick too red, heels too high for the hour, clutching designer bags and wearing a smirk like armor.“ Excuse me?” Caro said, stepping out from behind the counter. “What are you doing here?” Bella barely glanced at her and kept walking to her position. “ Relax. I’m not here for you.”“You don’t live here,” Caro said sharply, blocking her from walking further. “You can’t just barge in like this.”Bella tilted her head with exaggerated offense. “Why? Am I not allowed to visit my son anymore? Or check on my ex-lover? Or do I need your permission for that too?”The words slapped Caro with cold contempt. She straightened her back. “A mother doesn’t abandon her s

  • Bye Alex! It's your loss   3. No divorce

The words Alex had sent in her phone felt like handcuffs tightening around Caro's chest.'There is no divorce. You belong to me.'Just like that! Possessive. The words weren’t born from confusion or desperation. They came from certainty, from a man who never questioned his right to control. She scrolled up and read the line again, just above it. "I won’t give you what you asked for."Caro’s lips trembled. Not because she was shocked anymore but because those words struck a darker truth: he didn’t see her as a person. Not a woman, not a wife, not a mother. Just something he owned. A fixture in his home. A name on his lease. Someone to clean, feed, keep quiet, and stay. She swallowed hard and tossed the phone to the foot of the bed, where the photos still lay like pieces of a life she no longer wanted to remember. And then, just as she inhaled to steady herself, a sound echoed. The distant whirr of iron wheels dragging over tile. Her stomach dropped.Henry.He was coming.Caro quickly w
