CHAPTER 38: LOST MEMORY

REAH'S POV 

I entered the kitchen alone. It wasn't that bad though as I had learned to cook at a very young age to feed myself and my sick mother. I prepared everything within an hour and began cooking. 

I had no idea what exactly he loved to eat but thinking about how he would only eat a few spoonfuls of food every morning and night, I knew he liked no food. 

I prepared my favourite, letting the wondrous aroma permeate my soul and wash it clean. 

Two hours later, I came out of the kitchen with sweat on my face and I went upstairs to take the nutrients for the morning. 

After that, I returned downstairs and served myself. The maids were still getting their things ready while some of them already left. 

After eating, I packed Alpha Xavier's breakfast inside a lunchbox and carried my bag, ready to leave for work. 

"I'm back, Luna," 

I suddenly heard a voice that nearly made me scream. 

I raised my eyes only to see Alpha Xavier's s Beta standing by the entrance and looking at me. 

I made an Oh sound and walked toward him "Are you taking me to the office?" I asked. 

I thought Alpha Xavier would want me to take public transport. 

The Beta nodded "Yes, Luna. Alpha asked me to bring you to the company," He replied and collected the lunch box from me. 

He led the way and we left the house. Getting into the car, I decided to sit beside him today. 

I brought out my phone to check on any calls and as expected, Joyce and Gabriel already called. I wanted to call them back but thinking about my mood at the moment, there was no way they wouldn't find out that something was wrong. 

Instead of calling, I decided to text them instead and while I was doing that, news popped up on my phone. 

*The Justifiable Death of Actress Jessie Tender. She mocked and drugged an Alpha, a sin that could have ruined her whole family. Fortunately, it was a kindhearted Alpha, who didn't believe in killing innocent ones. He only punished Actress Jessie.*

Reading the news, a small frown crossed my face. A Justifiable death? Was that even one? So, the bloggers too felt like the way Jessie was killed was right?

I decided to check the comment. I was certain the fans wouldn't take it lying down. They would surely want to fight for justice and when they found out it was Alpha Xavier, they would know how to attack him without making it look open so they wouldn't be caught. 

Social media had always been scary, they would drag the most powerful people to the pit of hell and leave them there. People would hide behind social media to hurt their powerful enemies and in the end, most of them would go scot-free. It was always scary the way people would ask their fellow humans to die just because of a sin that might not even be true. 

Social media gave me the same chills I got from Alpha Xavier last night. It was a dangerous monster too, even more dangerous than Alpha Xavier. 

Checking the comment, an ugly expression formed on my face as I found it hard to believe what I was seeing. I tried to view the post again to see if I had opened the wrong comments but I didn't. It was the comment under the post that Jessie was killed!

*That's very sad. I'm a big Jessie fan but I'm happy for her family. She could have implicated them all*

"Who else knew something like this would happen to Jessie one day? She was just too full of herself and rude!*

"Oh No! I still watched her drama till very late last night and even used her picture as my profile on social media, I should quickly go remove them!*

*Rest in peace, Jessie. This is sad but be wiser in your next life!*

*I really can't believe this has happened. I will miss you, Jessie," 

I read more than fifty comments but none of them asked why she was killed. None of them asked for the killer and none of them even blamed the killer! 

The die-hard fans were only crying, putting crying emojis and telling her they would never forget her. 

My mind was in disarray, was this how cruel the world is?

Someone died and no one cared to ask about how they died? I thought being a model and an actress would have helped her get justice. I thought her international fans could have stood up against Alpha Xavier and made him pay but none of them seem to care!

"Are you checking the post online about Jessie's death?" 

Beta suddenly asked, startling me again. 

My body trembled slightly and I turned my head to look at him. "Yes, I just saw the news so I decided to read more," I replied sincerely. 

He sighed, "You will never find any derogatory comment against Alpha. None of them has the guts to call him out or ask him why he killed her. They mustn't. It's not like they do not want to but they all know the consequence and none of them wants to face it even if they are related to another Alpha," He explained and my eyes twitched 

"Why, though? It's not like if thousands of people curse him out alone, he would kill those thousands. Is that possible?" I asked. I felt like it wasn't possible. Alpha Xavier would never be able to hurt the millions online~

"That's not it. Alpha Xavier doesn't have to dirty his hands with dealing with them. There's what we call Alpha cops, they are the ones who will pick them all for punishment. Alpha cops are known to be cruel and brutal. Anyone who insults an Alpha or goes against them, the Alpha cops are the ones who deal with them. All the members are Alphas and they are all strong enough to lead a Pack but they decided to form that organization instead. Everyone is scared of their heads and everyone is scared of the pursuit of the Alpha cops," He explained. 

Hearing that, I finally understood why no one was able to talk alone. Even the great fans of hers were only telling her how much they would miss her. I also understood the reason Jessie was not able to beg for her life yesterday. She must have believed that Alpha Xavier would only hurt her and not her family. She would also know that the Alpha cops wouldn't let her go even if Alpha Xavier released her. 

Left with no choice, dying was the only way. 

I let out a deep breath and felt like life was truly brutal. 

"You don't have to be so scared though. Alpha Xavier would never hurt you that way because no matter what, you are still his mate. Also, the Griffin's find it especially very hard to kill their mates as a quarter of their lives are tied together. If they killed their mates, their powers would be greatly reduced and some of them might even fall deeply sick. So, you don't have to worry about him killing you," The Beta seemed to be ready for some conversation this morning but his words weren't assuring me. 

With the way Alpha Xavier hated me, I knew he wouldn't find it too crazy if he had to lose some of his powers just to kill me. 

"Why does he hate me though? I don't think I've ever done anything wrong to him. If anything, he should be grateful that I helped him that night," Seeing that the Beta wasn't as cold as he always was, I decided to ask him the question that had been troubling me. 

"It's because you are a witch," He simply replied and I frowned. 

"A witch?" 

"Yes. Alpha Xavier found out that you are a witch and your father is his mortal enemy," He explained. 

"My father? Does he know my father?" I asked, in utter disbelief. 

"Yes, He does. You and your father hurt him when he was younger and due to that incident, he lost someone very dearly to him. That's why he hates you so much and finds it hard to forgive you even though you are carrying his child," He explained. 

I shook my head "My father and I? I don't even know if I have a father and what did we do to him? I have no memory of ever seeing Alpha Xavier while I was growing up. Could I have hurt him in the past? Really?" I had always thought I was a good person who would never hurt anyone. 

Could it be that I was a cruel person before I lost my memories? Was that the reason God decided to give me another chance at life by wiping away the bad memories?

"You do not remember?" The beta seemed confused.
