CHAPTER 48: INVITATION

REAH'S POV 

"Alright, thanks," I replied as I collected the envelope and returned to the room. 

I opened the envelope and brought out the invitation card inside. It was a black card, thin and long. It had a metallic feeling even though I knew it wasn't metal. Touching the paper made me realize that they must have spent a lot of money to make it. 

That was expected though, not all Luna had the same treatment I had in Alpha Xavier's home so there was no way they wouldn't have a lot of money to do as they wanted. 

I dropped the invitation card on the table and walked toward the mirror to look at myself. As expected, I was a beauty, a very beautiful girl who might have won herself a very good man if she was even a tiny bit lucky. 

My hand pressed on my belly and I let out a deep breath. My mind felt hazy from the tiredness...

I stood up after a while and returned to the bed to rest again. All I could do for the day was sleep and sleep, right?

Closing my eyes, I soon slept off and only woke up to the sound of a knock on the door. I frowned when I heard that but still forced myself up. I was about to open the door when the door opened abruptly, hitting my forehead and causing me to fall back. 

With a scream, I hit the floor and pain ran through my veins. It was so painful that tears ran down my face and when I touched my forehead, I could feel the pain even more. 

"Reah!" 

Alpha Xavier's voice entered my ears as he caught my hand and helped me up "Why did you have to stand behind the door?" He asked, his voice wasn't loud at all but it was filled with concern. 

I looked at his face and frowned, the pain from my forehead alone was enough to make me yell at him but instead of doing that, I just removed my hand from his and stepped back "I came up to get the door, I had no idea you would open it first," I replied before collecting his bag from him. 

Truthfully, his concern annoyed me to the core because somehow, I could feel it wasn't sincere. He was only concerned about the baby inside me!

"Also, Someone brought an invitation for you earlier. It's Luna meeting stuff and I was invited to come," I explained as I dropped his bag. 

His eyes stared at my forehead for a while before the coldness returned and he walked past me. He started undressing until his eyes caught the envelope on the table. He picked it up, checked it and sneered "Do you want to go?" He asked. 

"Yes, I want to," I felt like it would be nice to go. 

He looked at me and his lips curved into a scary smirk. He threw the invitation card to the ground and scoffed "Beta!" He called and the door soon opened, revealing Mathew. "Take this dirt and burn it," He ordered. 

Mathew picked up the invitation card with the envelope and left the room. "I just told you this morning that you won't ever step out of this room again unless it has to do with the pregnancy, what did you think? Were you thinking that I was joking?" He asked as he removed his wristwatch. "How irresponsible you are. You've been pregnant for almost a month already and you are yet to register for an antenatal. If not for Mathew who informed me earlier, I wouldn't have known about it!" His voice took a drastic turn and I had to step back out of fear. 

My hand covered my belly and my eyes widened. I had forgotten about that too! This was my first pregnancy and I had left the hospital angrily that day, I was so despaired that I didn't even think much before leaving the hospital and ever since, I hadn't seen the doctor again. 

I bit my lower lip, feeling incredibly naive and irresponsible. "I will try to learn more about how to take care of myself during this pregnancy period from now on. Can you hand over my phone so I can do that?" I asked, staring at his face. 

"Don't even think about it," Alpha Xavier replied and entered the bathroom. 

I stood there, staring at the floor and feeling very uncomfortable. I might have hated my pregnancy at first but not anymore. I had carried the baby for a month already and it was only natural for the feeling to develop. I needed to make sure my baby was alright at any cost!

A knock from the door roused me and I turned around "Who's there?" I asked gently. 

"It's me, Luna," The voice came and my eyes twitched. 

"Beta Mathew? What is he doing here? Come in!" The last phrase was said louder so he would hear. 

The door opened and Beta Mathew entered with a bag in hand. "Alpha asked me to get these for you," He handed over the bag. 

I was confused for a few seconds, why would Alpha Xavier want to get me something? I knew it was highly unlikely but a part of me felt intrigued to see what it was that he got for me. A part of me wanted it to be a gift that would warm my heart, a part of me wished it was even chocolate but a bigger part of me knew Alpha Xavier didn't care about my happiness. 

I collected the bag and opened it, wanting to see what it was. The first thing I saw inside was a few books, I picked up more than four small books and surprisingly, there were even more books under them!

"What the hell is this?" I asked with confusion, disappointment and a bit of anger in my voice. 

Beta Mathew looked a bit embarrassed as he coughed awkwardly "Alpha asked me to get all the books that talk about pregnancy. He said you need to start doing prenatal education without leaving home," He explained and I gasped. 

What was that?

"He also told me to take you to the hospital tomorrow to register antenatal. I've already booked an appointment with one of the best doctors that I'm certain will take good care of you. We can go around 10 tomorrow morning," Beta Mathew continued and my heart leaped.

Well... Maybe I should start getting my things ready? I could escape from the hospital tomorrow!
