I paid the bill, stood up, and gave her our first official kiss in public.

We went to the cinema to watch a movie, but she got so scared she cried and almost peed her pants. We left before it ended and went shopping instead.

We got her a full wardrobe she’d outgrown a lot of her old outfits along with bags, shoes, and new human hair of different types.

When we got back, we packed all her old clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry and donated them to a less privileged home.

She went back to her hostel for a few days afterward. That was when I realized just how big my house was. For the first time since moving in, I checked the other two rooms. They were extremely dusty I’d totally forgotten I had three rooms, not one.

I called a cleaning agency to deep clean the entire place, then replaced all the furniture. I had a plan.

I didn’t like being separated from my girl. I loved having her around. Her being gone for just two nights made the whole place feel empty. Yes, I was no longer calling it a “room” I moved around the condo more often now, mostly because of Ann.

That night on the phone, I told her to move in completely. My space was big enough for a family, we were in an official relationship, and I was serious about marrying her.

The condo was in a private estate, located in an urban area right in the middle of the city and not far from school. I’d bought it because I didn’t want to rent off-campus or stay in the boys’ hostel.

Me: “Princess.”

Ann: “Daddy.”

Me: “Why don’t you move in with me? The house is big enough for us, even if we were to start a family.”

Ann: “But is it okay? Would it be inconvenient?”

Me: “What do you mean, inconvenient? If I can’t live with you or tolerate you, what’s the point of being with you?”

Ann: “Wait ‘tolerate’ me? Does that mean I’m annoying?”

Me: “Nooo, baby. My sweet, soft Princess could never be annoying.”

Ann: “Nobody likes me. The world takes me for granted. I feel like an outcast…”

Me: “No, no, no, baby. I love you, okay? So, so much. I wish you could read my mind.”

Ann: “No, you don’t. You said you tolerate me.”

Me: “Okay, cutie, I’m sorry. I’m coming to pick you up now. I can’t stay one more night without you. The moving company will bring your most important items here the rest we’ll sell or give away.”

I jumped up, grabbed my keys. I was still in my pajamas, but I didn’t care I was going to get my baby.

I brought her back to the house. At the parking lot, I blindfolded her, then guided her inside. When we reached the parlor, I removed the blindfold and turned on the light. She covered her eyes until they adjusted, then opened them.

Ann: “Wow, baby… you changed the whole theme of the parlor? It’s beautiful.”

Me: “Yeah, I did. I hope you like it.”

Ann: “Obviously. It feels like home.”

Me: “You’re right. Our home.”

She walked around, gently touching the expensive antique pieces, then moved to the paintings, tracing the artwork with her fingertips.

Ann: “Babe, you must have spent a fortune setting this up.”

Me: “Not really. Just five thousand dollars.”

Ann: “Babe, that’s a lot… for a student.”

Me: “Well, I can afford it. I’m not just a student I’m a business consultant. I consult for at least five businesses weekly, and I get paid per appointment. You’re the only one I’ve told, though not even Mike knows. If you could keep it secret, I’d appreciate it.”

Ann: “Pinky swear, pinky swear, mouth locked. I won’t leak a sentence to the world.”

Me: “You don’t have to pinky swear, babe. I trust you.”

Note to the younger generation, to single people:

Life is too short. Be with intentional people, or stay single. I promise you , you are not asking for too much when it comes to love. It’s just that some people can’t give you what they don’t have.

It’s okay not to be in a relationship. Don’t feel pressured. What is meant for you will surely find you.

The roommate continued.Roommate: “I was so angry. I’m a woman too, and putting myself in her shoes… I wouldn’t be happy at all. I might even do something stupid. Since she confided in me and she’s my friend, I decided to help her get justice. So I took matters into my own hands and sent the story to a blogger I knew. She posted it, and I paid her. That’s how you started trending.”Ann: “Why didn’t you call me to verify? We were roommates for two years. If I hadn’t moved out, we’d still be sharing a room. We never had any major misunderstandings.”Roommate: “Ann, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight. I should have checked with you at least we weren’t fighting.”Ann: “But you didn’t! Do you have any idea how deep this cut? Do you know the emotional damage you caused? The impact on my relationship? Everywhere I went, people pointed fingers. They mocked me. Girls laughed at me. I felt like a clown. There was even a day I didn’t go to school because I couldn’t face them. And now you h

We bathed together and nothing too deep happened then Ann went to cook. She made Chinese dishes: dumplings and hot pot. When she brought them to me in the room, I cleared the plate and asked for more. I rarely let her cook, and when she did, I treasured it besides, the food was delicious. I don’t even know who taught her Chinese cuisine. When we finished, she took the plates to the kitchen, washed them, did our laundry, and cleaned the house. She was in such a good mood she even sang while she worked. After the chores, she came back to the room, and I gave her a full-body massage. During the massage, she fell asleep. The next morning, we woke up, did our routine, and went to school. As we were about to enter class, we saw Ann’s roommate standing by the door, clearly waiting for someone. She approached us immediately.Roommate: “Hey, Ann. Hey.” She waved at me.Ann: “Hey.” She smiled.Roommate: “Can I have two minutes of your time? I promise I won’t be long.”Ann: “Yeah, that’s fine.

The next day, we went to school as usual. Lectures went smoothly; the scandal was completely out of our minds. We had tests and assignments due that same day, so we hit the library to finish up. After submitting the soft copies to our lecturer’s email, we headed to the canteen for lunch. In the school canteen, people kept passing by, smiling, and saying hello. My other buddies were on campus that day because of the tests and assignments. Coincidentally, they were seated just a table away.Mike: “Guys, look over there. Isn’t that Nath?”I was placing an order with Ann when I heard my name. I turned and saw them.Me: “Hey, bro.” I excused myself from Ann. “What’s up, guys? Been a minute. How have you been?”Pat: “We’re cool, man. Just got back to school yesterday.”Dave: “We heard there was a test, so we had to pull up.”Alex: “And some crazy-ass assignment.”Mike: “Man, I honestly can’t wait to get this school thing over with.”Me: “Not that I’m not tired too, but we have to pull throu

I was ecstatic. At least tonight I could sleep beside Ann again have her back in my arms. I hurried to the kitchen and prepared some grilled turkey cream pasta and apple cider, showered quickly, then went to our master bedroom. Ann was still asleep. I gently woke her.Me: “Ann… Ann, wake up.”Ann: (Grumbling) “Mmmhhmm…”Me: “Wake up. It’s time to eat.”Ann: “Why are you talking to me? And why are you here?”Me: “Eat first, then we’ll talk.”Ann: “Leave me alone.”Me: “Baby, please. Princess, you need to wake up.”Ann: “What’s going on? If I’m hungry, I’ll eat by myself. I’m an adult.”Me: “Baby, I know you’re upset with me, but if you get up and eat, I promise I’ll tell you something very important.”Ann: (Sits up) “What’s so important that you can’t tell me now?”Me: “You’ll need energy to digest what I’m about to say.”Ann: “Fine. God help you if it’s bad news.” She eyed me suspiciously. She took the food and began to eat. My eyes stayed on her the whole time. God, I missed her face

Me: “Get me the latest update on the sick mother’s medical report. Set a trap for the brother, make sure he borrows a large sum from a loan shark. Block the news from the blogger’s mother so she doesn’t go into shock.”PA: “Yes, sir. I’ll take care of it right away.”Me: “But Nancy isn’t even in town anymore. She’s schooling in F City. The last time I saw her was in junior secondary. Why would she do all this?”PA: (Smiling) “Sir, it’s obvious. It’s because she likes you.”Me: “Nancy likes me?”PA: “Yes, sir. From the story they concocted, it says you dumped your ex-girlfriend. Your ex definitely isn’t at your school, or she would’ve spoken up meaning Nancy is your alleged ex.”Me: “How come I never knew?”PA: “Apart from when you met Ann, you’ve always been a nonchalant person. You probably wouldn’t have cared even if she told you. I think she was waiting for you to take the initiative and ask her out.”Me: “But I don’t even like her.
