Mom: "Okay, okay, okay. I’ll be back, I promise."

Me: "Okay, then. I’ll wait for you."

Mom: "Should I get you anything?"

Me: "Mommy, are you trying to bribe me?" I laughed. "I don’t need anything. Just come home safe."

Mom: "Okay, I will."

I ended the call and decided to eat dinner. It was already cold, but what could I do? I could’ve asked the maids to warm it, but it didn’t feel necessary to stress them so late.

While eating, I called my assistant to check in. He said everything was fine. My mind at ease, I reviewed some documents and slept.

I woke around 5 a.m. and started working, consultations, brand reviews, documents. By the time I finished, it was past 9. The butler came to ask about breakfast, but I told him to wait. I called my assistant again thankfully, it had been a peaceful night. Ann was still sleeping.

Then I called my mom.

Mom: "Hi, son."

Me: "Hi, Mom. Good morning."

Mom: "Hope you slept well."

Me: "Yeah, I did."

Mom: "Good. I woke up early. We’re just twenty minutes from the city. You’ll see me soon."

Me: "That’s calm, then."

Mom: "Have you… Ouuuu!" She screamed.

Me: "Hello? Hello? What’s up?"

Silence. Total silence. Then the line disconnected.

I kept trying, but her phone was switched off. My heart dropped. I rushed downstairs to find the butler.

His name is Su Dvuo, but we all call him Uncle Su. He’s the oldest butler in the house, he came with us all the way from China. Though a servant, he’s family. An orphan with no one else but us.

Me: "Uncle Su, do you know who my mom traveled with?"

Uncle Su: bows "Young Master, Madam sneaked out that day. I asked the maids, she didn’t go with them. I think she went with her secret bodyguards."

Me: "I was just on the phone with her. I heard her scream, then the call cut out."

Uncle Su: he raised his head up to look at me "You heard her scream?" He rushed to the family phone, dialed her number. The call kept disconnecting. He tried his own phone, same thing. "Young Master, it keeps disconnecting."

The maids and bodyguards alerted, everyone started calling her. I didn’t want to inform my father yet, so I decided to call my assistant to investigate. Immediately I removed my phone from my pants pocket to dial his line, we suddenly heard footsteps. Trying to know wassup , we all paused .A maid came running into the main living room. Her legs must have been wet, or water was spilled, she slipped, hit her head, and passed out. it happened in a flash, but we needed to resolve it .

We called the family doctor. She had a mild concussion,and was suffering from anxiety, nothing serious, though she’d fallen hard. She was safe.

We all wondered what she’d been rushing to tell us. Was it that my mom had arrived? Impossible, she would’ve been here by now. Had she spoken to my mom? Also impossible, her phone was off.

Then what was it?
