LOGINAya’s POV
The next morning felt heavier than usual. Hindi ako halos nakatulog kagabi kakaisip. Sa tuwing ipipikit ko ang mata ko, the same scene kept replaying in my head.I stared blankly at the mirror in my small apartment while fixing my hair.
“Get it together, Aya.” Bulong ko sa sarili ko. Today was just another workday. Nothing more. Nothing less. Wala na akong magagawa. Adrian Vale is my CEO now. I am his employee. It’s either I face this head on or walk away…again. Napabuntong hininga ako. I stood up and grabbed my bag before thoughts wandered any further.
The office was unusually lively when I arrived. Some of my coworkers were already gathered near the coffee machine, whispering among themselves.
“Good morning,” bati ko habang dumadaan.
“Morning, Aya!” sagot ni Marie.
But the moment I reached my cubicle, Dani suddenly appeared beside me.
“Aya.” Her voice sounded serious. Napalingon naman ako sa kanya.
“What?”
“Wag ka magugulat, okay?” My stomach immediately dropped.
“The CEO’s assistant called earlier.” Nanlamig ang kamay ko.
“Oh, bakit raw?”
“She said Mr. Vale wants to see you.” My heart skipped.
“Me?” Dani nodded slowly. For a moment, I couldn’t sleep. Did he remember something? Did someone tell him about us? Or worse, did he already find out everything?
“Aya?” Dani called softly. I forced myself to breathe normally.
“Maybe it’s work-related,” sabi ko kahit hindi ako kumbinsido.
Thirty minutes later, I found myself standing outside the CEO’s office. My palms were sweating. His secretary smiled politely at me.
“You may go in, Ms. Reyes.” I knocked gently, chest tightened.
“Come in.” That voice sent shivers down my spine. I inhaled softly before pushing the door open. Adrian was standing near the large window behind his desk. His back was facing me. For a moment, naisip ko na umalis na lang. But it was too late. He already knew I was here.
“Sir, you were looking for me?” I said quietly. And the moment our eyes met, something strange passed through his expression. For a moment after then, he held the back of his neck, slowly rubbing it. I know that mannerism. “Was he feeling unwell?” Bulong ko na may halong pag-aalala sa sarili ko.
“Please take a seat.” He said calmly.
I obeyed him but my heart was beating so loudly I thought he might hear it.
“I reviewed your file last night.” My fingers tightened slightly on my lap. “You started working here eight months ago. You’re quite new.”
“Yes, Sir.” Every answer was short, careful, and neutral. He leaned back in his chair pero hindi pa rin bumibitaw ng titig sa akin.
“I see potential in you.” I blinked. Potential? So hindi ito about sa nangyari sa amin noon. It only mean na hindi niya ako naaalala. Kahit ganon, parang may kung anong sakit na dumaloy sa puso ko.
“I’m assigning you to a new campaign…under me.” My head snapped. Am I hearing him correctly because certainly, this is not how I expected this meeting to turn out.
“W-with what?” Nabubulol kong sabi. He nodded, still composed.
“You’ll report directly to my office starting today.” My mind immediately went blank. This is bad. Working directly with him meant spending everyday with him. And the more time we spent together, the more likely he might remember.
“But, Sir–”
“No buts. This is final.” His tone was firm and professional. “I should have just run.” Nagsisising bulong ko sa sarili.
I lowered my gaze. “Yes, sir.”
“Good.” He returned to his seat.
Ngunit bago niya ako idismss, he said one more thing. “Miss Reyes.”
“Yes?” His eyes met mine again. And there was something unsettling in them.
“I still feel like we’ve met before.” My chest tightened painfully. But I forced myself to stay calm.
I let go an awkward laugh. “That’s impossible, sir.” I stood up and bowed slightly. “Thank you for the opportunity.” Then I walked out of the office as fast as I could without looking suspicious. The moment the door closed behind me, I leaned against the wall. My heart was racing.
“Great job, Aya,” I muttered quietly. “Now you’re working directly with the one person you’re trying to avoid.” But what scared me the most wasn’t the project.
It was the look in Adrian’s eyes earlier. I need to know what happened during those five years. Dahil kahit hindi niya ako maalala, something inside him was already starting to recognize me. And I had no idea how long I could keep pretending that we were strangers.
Adrian’s POV
I don’t know what came inside my mind when I told her I was including her in my campaign. Pero the moment she stepped inside my office, something inside me reacted again. That same tightness in my chest. That strange familiarity I could not explain. And when she left the room a few moments ago, parang may kulang.
“What is wrong with you?” Bulong ko sa sarili ko.
I’ve met thousands of employees since I took over the company but none of them made me react this way. None of them made my mind restless. Yet one conversation with her and suddenly my thoughts wouldn’t stop.
My fingers slowly tapped against the desk. Then something flashed again.
A brief image. A small apartment. A warm light. Someone laughing. A woman’s voice.
“You’re late again.” The memory disappeared before I could grasp it. I suddenly straightened in my seat.
“Damn it.” I rubbed my temple as the faint headache returned. Not as painful as last night, but enough to remind me that something inside my head was still…broken. Or hidden. And somehow— Aya Reyes was connected to it. If I really knew her before, I would remember. Right?
A knock suddenly interrupted me. “Come in.”
Ms. Cruz stepped inside. “Sir, the documents you requested for the campaign are ready.”
“Leave them there.” She placed the folder on my desk before leaving immediately.
I picked up the folder containing the campaign documents. But before opening it, my eyes suddenly landed on something sitting on the corner of my desk. My hand froze.
A thin silver bracelet.
I frowned. I don’t remember owning this. Slowly, I picked it up. The moment my fingers touched the metal—
Another memory struck.
A girl laughing softly. Her hand in mine. “This is too expensive.” And my own voice answered— “Then don’t lose it.” My heart pounded violently. I turned the bracelet over. And saw something engraved on the inside. Two small initials.
A & A
My breathing slowly grew heavier.
“A… and A?”
Aya. Mahigpit kong hinawakan ang bracelet. Then a dangerous thought crossed my mind. What if— This belonged to her?
And what if… She already knew me and just hid it from me?
My eyes slowly darkened as the pieces in my head began forming a clearer picture.
Aya Reyes. You can pretend all you want. You can deny everything. But if you think I’ll just let you be— You’re wrong.
Adrian’s POVFor a moment, hindi ako nakapagsalita. My mother’s car.The words echoed in my head like a gunshot.“Marco…” I said slowly, trying to keep my voice steady. “Tell me you’re not serious.”“I wish I wasn’t,” he replied quietly. “Pero malinaw sa CCTV. Same plate number.”My chest tightened.“No,” I muttered under my breath. “Hindi siya pupunta dito para lang sundan si Aya.”Marco didn’t answer immediately.“Adrian,” he said carefully, “after everything we just found out about your mom… are you really sure about that?”I clenched my jaw.No.I wasn’t sure about anything anymore. I walked out of the terminal slowly, my mind racing. My mother knew. She knew Aya might leave. And if Aya disappeared—My stomach twisted.“Marco,” I said sharply. “Send me the CCTV footage.”“I’m already forwarding it.”My phone vibrated seconds later. I immediately opened the video. The screen showed the bus terminal entrance.Aya appeared in the frame. My chest tightened instantly. She looked small
Adrian’s POV“She’s gone.”For a moment, hindi agad nag-register sa utak ko ang sinabi ni Marco. The words echoed in my head like a hollow sound inside an empty room.“Anong ibig mong sabihin na gone?” tanong ko agad, my voice low but tense.May saglit na katahimikan sa kabilang linya.“Danielle said Aya didn’t show up at work today,” Marco continued. “Tinanggal niya na lahat ng gamit niya kagabi. She submitted her resignation.”My heart dropped.“What?” I breathed.“I’m serious,” Marco said. “Walang notice. Walang explanation. She just… left.”My grip tightened around the phone. A cold feeling crept up my spine.“She wouldn’t do that,” agad kong sagot. “Hindi siya aalis nang walang dahilan.”Marco sighed softly. “Adrian… after everything that happened between you two that night, are you really surprised?”Parang may kumurot sa dibdib ko.That night.Aya’s trembling voice. The hurt in her eyes.“You don’t trust me.”My chest tightened painfully.“I need you to find her,” sabi ko agad
Adrian’s POV “From making the same mistake twice.” Umalingawngaw ang mga salitang iyon sa tenga ko. The pain in my head intensified again.A new memory forced its way through.Rain pouring.A voice shouting.Isabelle.“You’re mine!”My breathing quickened.“You manipulated everything,” I said slowly. “The accident report. The police. The hospital.”Hindi man lang nag-deny si Mama. Instead, she tilted her head slightly.“And if I did?”My chest tightened. “So, inaamin mo?”“I admit,” she said calmly, “that I did what was necessary to protect this family.”“By almost killing me?”Nagflash ang galit sa mga mata niya. “You weren’t supposed to get hurt.”Nagflash ang galit sa mga mata niya. “So it was intentional.”“It was supposed to be controlled.”The hallway felt colder.“Controlled?”ulit ko.“Yes,” she replied. “A warning.”“A warning for what?”Her gaze locked onto mine.“For falling in love with the wrong person.”Parang may sumuntok sa dibdib ko.Aya.My grip tightened against th
Adrian’s POV“Something wasn’t right.” The thought had been circling my mind since Marco showed me the documents. My mother. The bank transfer. The altered police report. How could a mother do that to his own child? It didn’t make sense—but at the same time, it explained too much. I leaned back in my chair and stared at the folder on my desk. The papers inside felt heavier than they should. “The driver was Aya’s father.” Marco’s voice echoed in my head.My jaw tightened. And Aya knew–at least part of it. Which meant one thing. She wasn’t hiding the truth to protect herself. She was hiding it to protect someone else.My fingers slowly curled into fists. “Damn it,” I muttered.I stood up abruptly and grabbed my coat. If there was one person who could confirm everything—it was my mother. The house was quiet when I arrived. The lights were on, but the atmosphere felt strangely tense.I stepped inside slowly.“Mom?” I called. No answer.I walked deeper into the house hanggang sa may narin
Aya’s POVHindi ako nakatulog. Every time I closed my eyes, Adrian’s face kept appearing in my mind–the anger in his eyes, the disappointment and the way he looked at me like I was someone he couldn’t trust.I turned on my side and stared at the wall of my small apartment. The room felt colder than usual. My chest still hurt. Not the loud kind of pain but the kind that sits in your heart and slowly breaks you apart.“Why didn’t you believe me…” I whispered. My voice sounded small in the silence. I wiped the tears that slipped down my cheek before they could fall further. Crying won’t change anything. Adrian already made his decision—and it wasn’t me.-----------------------The next day at the office felt unbearable. I arrived earlier than everyone else.I needed the silence. Kelangan ko makapag-isip-isip. Because the moment people started coming in, I will be pretending again.Every sound of footsteps made my heart jump. Every elevator chime made my chest tighten. What if it was him?
Adrian’s POVHindi ako nakatulog. The whole night kept replaying in my head like a broken record.Aya’s voice. Her eyes. The way she looked at me when I said I didn’t believe her. There was something there. Not guilt. Not fear. Something else. And that hunted me more than anything.I leaned back on my chair and rubbed my temples. My room was still dark except for the faint light coming from the city outside. It was already past midnight but sleep felt impossible. My phone buzzed on the table. It was Marco. “Tell me you found something.” Kaagad kong sabi, expecting better news from him. “I did,” he said. His tone was different.“Where are you?” I asked. Hindi pa siya sumasagot ay kaagad ko nang kinuha ang susi at wallet ko para puntahan siya.“Your office.”“Stay there.”-----------Marco was already sitting on the couch when I entered. Ang daming folders at pictures ang nakalatag sa mesa. He looked like he couldn’t sleep either.“Please tell me you have something better to say,” I s
Adrian’s POV“If we’ve never met before…then why does it fit you perfectly?”The words hung heavily in the air between us.Aya froze in her place. For a moment, she didn't move. Hindi rin siya nagsalita. Her eyes were fixed in the bracelet around her wrist like it had just betrayed her. I watched
Adrian's POV“…why are you pretending you don’t know me?”Tahimik. Nakakarindi ang katahimikan. Aya didn’t answer. Nakatitig lang siya sa akin, parang may gustong sabihin pero pinipigilan ang sarili.“Adrian.” Boses ni Mama. It was firm and controlled.Hindi ako lumingon.“Let go of her.”Napatingi
Aya’s POVAaminin kong naiinis na ako kay Adrian. He was becoming unprofessional sa ginagawa niya sa akin ngunit a part of me understood kung bakit parang desperado na siyang masagot ang mga tanong niya. His gaze kept on switching between me and his phone, parang binuhusan ng malamig na tubig sa hi
Aya’s POVThe elevator door closed in front of me.And the moment they did, my legs finally gave up. Napahawak ako sa railings sa loob ng elevator habang pilit pinipigilan ang nagbabadyang mga luha. Tila ba may mabigat na nakadagan sa dibdib ko.Fiancee.That word kept echoing in my mind. I squeezed
