LOGINAya’s POV
We went out of the conference room while my workmates were either looking at me or talking about me. But I couldn't blame them. I hurriedly checked whether the hallway was clear or not. “Dani, I need to tell you something.” I know she won’t understand easily so I decided to get my phone from my pocket and open a hidden folder sa gallery ng phone ko. “Here. Look at these.” “We were together for three years before he asked my hand for marriage.” Her jaw dropped with the information I just spilled. “But on a random day, he disappeared. I never saw him after that. I searched everywhere but nothing. I was so helpless for years. All I could do was cry myself to sleep and wake up the next day feeling hopeless.” Tears started falling. Ang bigat bigat pa rin. Dani was speechless. I could not blame her. She hugged me tight as if she was trying to calm me down. “Grabe…” mahina niyang sabi. Because honestly, I am not sure kung ano ba talaga ang gusto kong marinig. Maybe comfort. Maybe answers. “I really thought I had already moved on.” Pag-amin ko. “I thought I was okay. Five years na, Dani. Limang taon ko siyang hinanap.” She slowly pulled away and held me on both my shoulders. “Wait,” ani nya, trying to process everything. “Nawala sya.” “Aya, parehas lang yon!” Hindi ako makasagot. I couldn’t even look her in the eye. Iniwan niya ba talaga ako or may nangyari sa kanya? “Pero Aya,” Dani continued, lowering her voice. “It was tougher before I met Adrian.” The memories flashed before my eyes. The memories. The happiness. The pain. Eight years ago, my life was different. Far worse before meeting Adrian. I was still living in my father’s house. After my mom died, my dad remarried. At first, akala ko hindi man magiging kasing saya nung una pero magiging okay naman kami ni dad. But it was far from that. My stepmom never liked me. She never admitted she despised me but her actions said otherwise. “Aya, ikaw na ang maglinis sa kusina.” “Aya, nakapaglaba ka na ba?” “Aya, prepare me food.” She made sure my dad never see pero halos lahat ng gawaing bahay ako ang gumagawa habang siya ay nagshoshopping or nag-eenjoy. He loved her too much and it blinded him. I don’t like fighting with my dad so I kept quiet. Until one night, it was too much to bear. “I had to finish my group project. Dad knows.” Pagalit niyang pagbabanta. “Excuse me?” Hindi makapaniwala sa sinabi niya. Bahay namin ito. My parents put all their money into providing me this house. I looked at my dad. But the person I thought was my ally was just staring at me. Dad said nothing. Not a single word. He doesn’t care. I just kept walking. I was hurt and at that moment, all I wanted was to stay away. Until it started to rain. I never felt so alone in my life. I decided to stop in a shed hanggang sa tumila lang ang ulan. I know I lost my mom and I can’t depend on my dad after he remarried but today was the day I felt most alone. Until a car suddenly stopped in front of me. “Aya?” Napalingon ako. Adrian. Back then, we were just classmates. “Why are you here, soaking wet? Tanong nya. “Aya, what happened?” Ani nya habang nagdadrive palayo. “Nothing.” he stared at me for a few seconds. “Really, nothing? You know it’s not safe here during this hour.” He looked worried. After a few moments, he spoke. “Did you run away?” Tanong nya , tila ba may pag iingat sa bawat salitang binibitawan. Napatingin naman ako sa kanya. “Something like that.” Sagot ko. “You should have called someone…anyone.” “I don’t have anyone.” Then he pulled over in front of a small cafe that was still open at this hour. “Tara.” “Bakit?” “Mainit na kape, parang kailangan mo eh.” Sagot niya. That night, we talked for hours. About my family. About my life. About his upbringing…that was too far from mine. Who would have thought it would be the beginning of something…more?Adrian’s POVFor a moment, hindi ako nakapagsalita. My mother’s car.The words echoed in my head like a gunshot.“Marco…” I said slowly, trying to keep my voice steady. “Tell me you’re not serious.”“I wish I wasn’t,” he replied quietly. “Pero malinaw sa CCTV. Same plate number.”My chest tightened.“No,” I muttered under my breath. “Hindi siya pupunta dito para lang sundan si Aya.”Marco didn’t answer immediately.“Adrian,” he said carefully, “after everything we just found out about your mom… are you really sure about that?”I clenched my jaw.No.I wasn’t sure about anything anymore. I walked out of the terminal slowly, my mind racing. My mother knew. She knew Aya might leave. And if Aya disappeared—My stomach twisted.“Marco,” I said sharply. “Send me the CCTV footage.”“I’m already forwarding it.”My phone vibrated seconds later. I immediately opened the video. The screen showed the bus terminal entrance.Aya appeared in the frame. My chest tightened instantly. She looked small
Adrian’s POV“She’s gone.”For a moment, hindi agad nag-register sa utak ko ang sinabi ni Marco. The words echoed in my head like a hollow sound inside an empty room.“Anong ibig mong sabihin na gone?” tanong ko agad, my voice low but tense.May saglit na katahimikan sa kabilang linya.“Danielle said Aya didn’t show up at work today,” Marco continued. She submitted her resignation.”My heart dropped.“What?” I breathed.“I’m serious,” Marco said. “Walang notice. Walang explanation. She just… left.”My grip tightened around the phone. A cold feeling crept up my spine.“She wouldn’t do that,” agad kong sagot. “Adrian… after everything that happened between you two that night, are you really surprised?”Parang may kumurot sa dibdib ko.That night.Aya’s trembling voice. The hurt in her eyes.“You don’t trust me.”My chest tightened painfully.“I need you to find her,” sabi ko agad
Adrian’s POV “From making the same mistake twice.” The pain in my head intensified again.A new memory forced its way through.Rain pouring.A voice shouting.Isabelle.“You’re mine!”My breathing quickened.“You manipulated everything,” I said slowly. “The accident report. The police. The hospital.”Hindi man lang nag-deny si Mama. Instead, she tilted her head slightly.“And if I did?”My chest tightened. “So, inaamin mo?”“I admit,” she said calmly, “that I did what was necessary to protect this family.”“By almost killing me?”Nagflash ang galit sa mga mata niya. “You weren’t supposed to get hurt.”Nagflash ang galit sa mga mata niya. “So it was intentional.”“It was supposed to be controlled.”The hallway felt colder.“Controlled?”ulit ko.“Yes,” she replied. “A warning.”“A warning for what?”Her gaze locked onto mine.“For falling in love with the wrong person.”Parang may sumuntok sa dibdib ko.Aya.My grip tightened against th
Adrian’s POV“Something wasn’t right.” The thought had been circling my mind since Marco showed me the documents. My mother. The bank transfer. The altered police report. How could a mother do that to his own child? It didn’t make sense—but at the same time, it explained too much. I leaned back in my chair and stared at the folder on my desk. The papers inside felt heavier than they should. “The driver was Aya’s father.” Marco’s voice echoed in my head.My jaw tightened. And Aya knew–at least part of it. Which meant one thing. She wasn’t hiding the truth to protect herself. She was hiding it to protect someone else.My fingers slowly curled into fists. “Damn it,” I muttered.I stood up abruptly and grabbed my coat. If there was one person who could confirm everything—it was my mother. The house was quiet when I arrived. The lights were on, but the atmosphere felt strangely tense.I stepped inside slowly.“Mom?” I called. No answer.I walked deeper into the house hanggang sa may narin
Aya’s POVHindi ako nakatulog. Every time I closed my eyes, Adrian’s face kept appearing in my mind–the anger in his eyes, the disappointment and the way he looked at me like I was someone he couldn’t trust.I turned on my side and stared at the wall of my small apartment. The room felt colder than usual. My chest still hurt. Not the loud kind of pain but the kind that sits in your heart and slowly breaks you apart.“Why didn’t you believe me…” I whispered. My voice sounded small in the silence. I wiped the tears that slipped down my cheek before they could fall further. Crying won’t change anything. Adrian already made his decision—and it wasn’t me.-----------------------The next day at the office felt unbearable. I arrived earlier than everyone else.I needed the silence. Kelangan ko makapag-isip-isip. Because the moment people started coming in, I will be pretending again.Every sound of footsteps made my heart jump. Every elevator chime made my chest tighten. What if it was him?
Adrian’s POVHindi ako nakatulog. The whole night kept replaying in my head like a broken record.Aya’s voice. Her eyes. The way she looked at me when I said I didn’t believe her. There was something there. Not guilt. Not fear. Something else. And that hunted me more than anything.I leaned back on my chair and rubbed my temples. My room was still dark except for the faint light coming from the city outside. It was already past midnight but sleep felt impossible. My phone buzzed on the table. It was Marco. “Tell me you found something.” Kaagad kong sabi, expecting better news from him. “I did,” he said. His tone was different.“Where are you?” I asked. Your office.”“Stay there.”-----------Marco was already sitting on the couch when I entered. He looked like he couldn’t sleep either.“Please tell me you have something better to say,” I s
Adrian's POV“…why are you pretending you don’t know me?”Tahimik. Nakakarindi ang katahimikan. Aya didn’t answer. It was firm and controlled.Hindi ako lumingon.“Let go of her.”Napatingi
He was becoming unprofessional sa ginagawa niya sa akin ngunit a part of me understood kung bakit parang desperado na siyang masagot ang mga tanong niya. His gaze kept on switching between me and his phone, parang binuhusan ng malamig na tubig sa hi
Aya’s POVThe elevator door closed in front of me.And the moment they did, my legs finally gave up. That word kept echoing in my mind. I squeezed
Aya’s POV“Why do I remember asking you to marry me?”The words echoed inside my head like a loud bomb dropped all of a sudden. For a moment, I forget how to breathe. If I will be really honest, nasasaktan ako habang tinitingnan siyang desperadong malaman ang sagot sa mga tanong nya. And it hurts
