Chapter 11. Petra's Plans

Early in the morning, Mercedes again requests a meeting with Lilith, but the guards inform her that Lilith had to leave the estate to attend to some matters in the capital.

After much contemplation and unable to bear the uncertainty, with some apples stuffed in her stockings, the nanny walks hastily through the corridors leading to the lower part of the house, where the cells are located.

This house is very large, nothing compared to the Valencias', but thanks to some servants who gave her directions, she finally manages to reach the lowest part, the basement.

The cold in this area is uncomfortable, and the smell of the walls is atrocious. Mercedes can't fathom why they brought Adelaide to this place. If her husband weren't away on a trip, this wouldn't have happened, she's sure of it. He wouldn't be so cruel to her over something so insignificant.
