CHAPTER 085

POV FREYA

The house felt unusually calm that afternoon. For the first time in weeks, I wasn’t anxious or restless.

Maybe it was the quiet sound of the air conditioner or the way the sunlight danced across the marble floor, but everything felt lighter.

I leaned against the counter, scrolling through my phone while smiling to myself.

Kaiden had been acting so sweet lately and gentler even.

I wanted to do something to surprise him. His birthday was only two days away, and with all the chaos around the Grayson company, he’d completely forgotten.

Maybe I’d cook his favorite dinner. Or decorate the garden with candles and lights like we used to before everything got so complicated.

He deserved something peaceful for once.

We did.

“Ma’am,” a soft voice interrupted my thoughts. It was Marla, the maid, holding her little purse in both hands. “I’ve finished for the day.”

I turned to her, still smiling. “Thank you, Marla. You’ve done great today, you can leave now.”

She paused, her b

Just us.”For a moment, something like genuine warmth crossed his face. Then he reached out, hand resting on my waist. “You always know how to make me feel special, Freya.”I smiled faintly, trying not to show how his touch made me stiffen. “That’s kind of the point.”He leaned closer, voice dropping lower. “What did I do to deserve you?”I wanted to answer, but the truth would’ve ruined the moment. So I didn’t.Instead, I busied myself setting the table. The lights dimmed naturally as dusk crept through the windows. I’d cooked earlier, not knowing why I bothe

Chapter 087POV FREYAThe house felt too quiet after Alan left. His scent still lingered — faint, clean, and annoyingly familiar. I tried opening the windows to let it out, but somehow it felt like he had left a piece of himself in the air, in the way silence settled like a bruise across my chest.I stood there for a long time, staring at the fruit basket he’d brought. A ridiculous gift, but one that felt heavier than it looked.“Eliza,” I whispered under my breath, almost like the name could balance out the chaos in my head. The TV still played in the background, Alan’s face flashing across the screen again in a looped segment. I caught myself staring before shaking it off, muttering, “You’re losing it, Freya.”I turned off the TV.I exhaled deeply and looked around the quiet house. The clock ticked softly in the living room. It was still early. If I started now, I could pull it off before Kaiden came home.I tied my hair back, rolled up my sleeves, and got to work.By the time the s

CHAPTER 086POV FREYAMy heart was racing so fast at an unhealthy rate and it almost hurt. But i wasn’t going to show it. Not to him. Not to the man who should’ve stayed buried in my past.Seeing his disgusting face fueled my anger but I decided not to give him the idea of anything I was feeling. At the moment, he's my husband's brother.i folded my arms, tilted my head slightly, buried the past in a haste and said with a smug calm voice, “Come in.”I said it so casually and Alan stepped inside like he’d never been gone, setting a box of fruits neatly on the table. The sight made my scoff under my breath. It reminded my too much of the day Eliza had shown up with the same gesture, gifts wrapped around guilt.“Seriously?” i muttered, watching him drop the box like he owned the place. “Is this a thing with you people now? First Eliza, now you. Do fruit baskets come with the Orlova family curse?”He blinked, a small frown tugging at his lips. “Eliza was here?”“Yeah,” she replied dryly,

CHAPTER 084KAIDEN’S POVHe was back.Alive. Breathing. Walking. And somehow, still stealing the air from my lungs the way he always did.Alan.The man I killed with my own hands. The man who should’ve stayed six feet under. No one should know I killed him.Especially not Freya. If he gets to her, if he even whispers the right words, she’ll believe him.And once she believe… everything unravels.No. I can’t allow that.I have to get closer, closer than ever. She needs to see me as the only safe place she has left. I’ll remind her of what we have, make her feel something real. She doesn’t need Alan’s ghost. She needs me.I’ll lock every door if I have to.I found her near the front gates, smiling politely as she bid the family goodbye. The golden light from the chandeliers spilled over her hair and she looked so distant, so far away from me already. My blood boiled. Before she could turn, I was already behind her. My hand shot out and wrapped around her wrist, pulling her back. She gas
