Chapter 2 - Catch Me If You Can

Laureffaine let her legs carry her with her wolf abilities. Vampires were vicious and would suck the blood out of it's prey. The enmity between Vampires and Werewolves started thousands of years ago and with the birth of every new generation, it gets greater.

And Vampires on wolf lands was very dangerous. Sure Laureffaine was well trained and could take down any vampire, but what about the kids and anyone else who couldn't really defend their selves.

"Any news Alpha?", She asked Xavier through the Pack bond.

"No", was his short reply and he cut the link.

Laureffaine stopped running to scout the area they stood. She realized they had gotten really deep in the forest and still no trace of a single Vampire, she couldn't even catch a Vampire's scent no more.

Suddenly, she caught a whiff of the Vampire's scent. She started sniffing and she could finally catch the scent.

"I can smell it", she smirked, pointing to the the deepest route of the woods.

"Laureffaine, we can't keep up and besides that part of the forest is forbidden", Freddy Wayne, Laureffaine's Assistant Lead Pack Warrior had said.

"Forbidden, meaning that vicious thing is likely to be there and so we must catch it.

You of all people know I never let a Vampire live", she yelled and turned around, ready to run into the forbidden direction.

"Laureffaine, I forbid you to go in there", Xavier yelled through the Pack bond.

"Well, you don't run me Alpha Xavier", she smirked and closed the bond. She laughed at her own words.

He did run her. She would do whatever he told her to do, but just not today, she couldn't let this Vampire escape from her.

"You snitchers", she glared at her team of warriors.

"Follow me", she added and took the lead as always.

They headed straight for the forbidden part of the woods and Laureffaine could smell the Vampire, his scent was much stronger than before.

"We shouldn't be doing this Laureffaine, I have no right to question your choices but we're not following the Alpha's orders."

"Your Alpha is not here, I'm in charge Freddy, deal with it", Laureffaine run deep into the forest and they couldn't just leave her alone.

The Alpha would have their head for that. So they followed her. They all came to an abrupt stop, just infront of the entrance of the forbidden place.

"Dead Groove", Laureffaine spelled the name engraved on the two pillars that served as a gateway into that part of the forest.

"Everything here sounds pretty creepy, why do you still want to disobey the Alpha and go inside"

"I'm in charge here, you don't question my orders, you just follow them", she spat, glaring at all her warriors as she stepped inside Dead Groove.

She smelled the Vampire strongly and so she run, the fastest she could go. She could feel that the Vampire was closer, much closer. She smiled.

She kept running, letting her werewolf senses guide her. But she smelled something else. The delicious smell wafted in the air and she swore it could make her high.

Her wolf was on high alert and her legs carried her faster. No one has been able to smell their mate. It was either a perfume they wore or something else. But this scent was too much for her to contain.

If it wasn't a perfume, it could only mean one thing, she had a true fated mate. But she didn't need that at the moment, not on Xavier's birthday.

Only the Moon Goddess knew how much she wanted a true fated mate. But she should also know that she only wanted Xavier as a true fated mate and no one else.

"I should have listened to Xavier", Laureffaine thought. But still she wasn't backing out. She really had to know if she had a fated mate.

She heard growls and followed the sounds, which lead her to a clearing. But what she saw had her shaking. Two Vampires were lying on the ground with a stake in one's heart and a big hole in one's neck.

But she had seen blood her whole life and shouldn't be scared by that. That wasn't what scared her.

Standing before her was a man and she had just witnessed him rip a Vampire's heart out. Whoever did that?, Sure wolves could kill Vampires but he did it without shifting, he did it with his bare hands.

They said Vampires had no heart but today she had just witnessed a Vampires heart being ripped out.

A quiet gasp left Laureffaine's lips which made the man turn his head to look at her. His warriors had already surrounded Laureffaine and her team of warriors.

A look at them and Laureffaine realized what they were.

ROGUES

What were a whole Pack of Rogues doing on The Blue Lake Creek Pack's lands. This was exactly what Laureffaine asked herself.

"Look what we have here Alpha, another set of intruders. And Dead Groove hates intruders", one of the Rogues seethed looking at Laureffaine.

Before Laureffaine could say anything the man who had brutally killed the Vampires stood before her.

Her hands found her chest as her heart was about to jump out of it's case.

"Mate", they both said at the same time. Laureffaine quickly covered her lips with her hand as she shook her head.

"Luna", the Rogue Pack's warriors chorused as they bowed, paying their respects to their Luna.

Laureffaine couldn't breathe. She was okay being Xavier's mistress. Sure she wanted to be a Luna but never a Rogue Alpha's Luna.

She shifted and let her wolf take over as she run. She always had a good relationship with her wolf so they all agreed in being a mistress to Xavier and his wolf.

But she knew her wolf would find it hard to resist her fated mate's pull. She ran as fast as she could. Never looking back, she didn't even check to see if her warriors were following her.

She got behind a tree and shifted, looking for some shorts and a big shirt from the basket they keep in the woods.

They keep those baskets to help those who go for runs in the woods get something to wear after their shift.

She pulled at her hair and wiped away her tears. This was too much for her to bear. She was a Rogue Luna. She hadn't been initiated into the Rogue Pack but still it wouldn't be long before her mate found her.

She thought the Rogue Alpha was only a myth. If only she had really paid attention in her history classes she would have remembered that the mythical Rogue Alpha's Pack was called Dead Groove.

And why was that even in their Pack lands. She quickly walked inside the Pack House. Praying she could escape from Xavier and get to her room.

As she entered, all the lights had been put out so she highly believed that she had been able to escape Xavier's wrath. She quietly moved up the stairs, eager to get into the comfort of her bed.

She thought she was going to start her day with happiness but now all she was feeling was that she was complete trash. The Moon Goddess really had to be playing some sick joke with her.

She closed the door to her bedroom and walked straight to her bed. She curled like a ball as she pulled the covers over her body.

"I thought I told you to retreat Laureffaine", Xavier said calmly but Laureffaine knew he was everything but calm. He sounded pissed.

She remained quiet, but deep down she was shaking. She covered her mouth to muffle the sobs.

"Answer me Laureffaine", he yelled this time, his anger clearly visible as he stood by Laureffaine's window, his back facing her.

He didn't hear her voice, not even her movement. All he saw was her hands around his waist as a sob choked out of her mouth and her tears wetting his shirt.

He quickly turned around, pulling her into his chest as she cried. He carried her to the bed and turned on the bedside lamp.

"What happened Laure?, Why are you crying?", He asked

"Did something happen out there?", He placed her on his laps as he stroked her hair.

"It's all over Xavier, everything's over", she cried.

"Nothing's over Laure, did one of your warriors die while catching the Vampire. It happens Laure", Xavier tried to sound assuring, thinking Laureffaine had only lost a warrior.

"You don't understand Xavier, I found him, he's here, and he's going to take me away from you, he's going to separate us, I know it, I can feel it."

"Speak clearly Laure, I can't understand what you're saying", he pinched the space between his eyes in irritation.

"I found my mate", she cried.

"Not a chosen mate, my true fated mate."

Xavier quickly placed her on the bed and stood up. He ran his hand through his hair.

"You shouldn't be playing in my face like that and definitely not with a topic like that", Xavier turned abruptly as he crouched down to be in eye level with Laureffaine.

"And why would I be telling lies in a situation as important as this", Laureffaine yelled, looking directly at him.

She wasn't intimidated with his stare and it wasn't like she was telling lies or something.

"I don't know, maybe to get me to divorce Kate faster and make you Luna", Xavier spat with a little bit of anger and glared at his mistress.

Laureffaine's right hand flew to his cheek. She pushed him away as Xavier rubbed his cheek with his palm.

"I would never try to manipulate you into making me your Luna or pull the I'm the victim here card okay", she yelled.

"I'm sorry Laure, it's just the thought of losing you is making me restless and-

"You know what?, Whether you believe me or not, he's coming and he's coming real soon", Laureffaine interrupted.

"He's coming for me. And it's either you're able to stop him or I become his, for the rest of my Life. I don't want to be a Rogue Luna. I went to catch a Vampire, but I caught something scarier, a Rogue Alpha mate."
