Chapter 5 - Rogues

"Stay with me, you are not to leave my sight and it's an order", Xavier barked and there was nothing Laureffaine could do but to listen.

She was a warrior so she knew how serious the situation was.

Xavier was dead serious. And she wasn't going to rebel now, when she herself was scared.

"Where are they attacking from?", He asked the guard.

"Where they know how to hide best, in the trees", he replied. Xavier ignored his reply.

"Allison Forest", Xavier whispered.

His eyes darkened as his body shook with anger.

"Let's go"

They all shifted and gave full control to their wolves. But Laureffaine refused to give her wolf full control.

Her mate had threatened her, and she knew very well this was all his doing. If she wanted to go against him, she couldn't give her wolf full control. What kind of a mate even threatened his mate?

She-wolves would always succumb to their mates. And she couldn't have her wolf leading her to her mate, when her place was with Xavier.

Even if it was as his mistress. She loved being Xavier's mistress and she didn't care even if it was wrong.

Laureffaine's soft paws hit the ground, she loved the feel of the air in her fur. She took a whiff of the air and could smell the rogues.

She knew they were close to the Allison Forest. But it was as if the rogues smelt different from their first encounter in Dead Groove.

She just felt so but eventually ignored it. She run together with Xavier, staying by his side, just as he wanted.

Just as they rounded the corner, a muddy brown wolf jumped on Xavier, throwing him back in the process.

Laureffaine's wolf jumped unto the wolf pinning Xavier down as she sinked her canines into it's neck, biting deep.

She teared the flesh and spat it out, not wanting the foul taste of the Rogue wolf's blood to stay in her mouth.

It fell limb on Xavier's wolf. Xavier's wolf jumped up, throwing the Rogue wolf's body off him as he and Laureffaine's wolf run into the Allison Forest.

The rest followed behind their Alpha.

"They are too many", Xavier said through the Pack link.

"I don't want them to take me with them Alpha", Laureffaine cried in their heads.

Xavier's wolf patted his paws on theground softly, eyes travelling far into the deep Allison Forest.

He was Alpha, Alpha Xavier Lambeth. So it meant he was faster and swifter than all his Pack combined.

He let his wolf senses guide him as he run with full speed, never stopping. He was on a rampage as he teared every wolf that blocked his way into pieces.

Laureffaine's wolf let her eyes moved around. And she seemed to catch on with what Xavier was doing.

He was aiming for a particular rogue and from the way he was being protected by the rogues, Laureffaine came to a conclusion that he was the Rogue in charge.

"Protect the Alpha", she ordered in their heads, her warrior instincts kicking in.

"Yes Laureffaine", they chorused as they tried to catch up with the Alpha's speed.

Laureffaine's wolf pinned down a red rogue wolf and bit it's hind legs.

It turned them over, having the upper hand.

Laureffaine's wolf whimpered. The wolf was thrown against a tree, falling limb.

She immediately recognized the gray wolf that saved her as Freddy's wolf and pushed him with her snout showing her appreciation. She always knew he'd have her back.

Laureffaine and Freddy's wolves run forward, fighting their way through. And the rest of the warriors did the same.

Xavier's wolf let out a prideful growl as he teared the Rogue leader into bits.

Laureffaine looked on with pride and howled, followed with a series of howl from the rest of the warriors.

This had the rest of the rogues running away.

"Catch a few for interrogation", Xavier growled through the mind link.

"Follow me Laure", she heard him in her head and did exactly as he asked.

"I already called the council, they'd be here in a couple hours. That Rogue Alpha needs to be stopped", Xavier shook his head.

Right after the battle with the Rogues, he had asked for a meeting with the council and they were already on their way to the Blue Lake Creek Pack.

And so here he sat with Laureffaine in his office, telling her about it.

He just wanted to keep his Pack safe. And now he needed the council's help.

The Rogue Alpha didn't just make empty threats. He actually proved to be ruthless.

"No Xavier, you didn't do that", Laureffaine panicked.

"I... I...I..thought we were going to confront him ourselves", she stuttered.

"Confront him ourselves you say", he snorted.

"What good is that going to do?", He threw a question at her.

"Do you even know how many Pack members were hurt?"

"It's my duty as Alpha to look out for my Pack, the Pack is and will always be my top priority Laure and you know it"

He was starting to feel irritated.

"What about me Xavier?", She mumbled.

"What about me?", It came out much louder this time.

"Confronting him together with the council could make them find out that he's my true fated mate. What if they decided to restore peace and made me go with him, mate with him?"

"Did you even think about that huh?"

"That will never happen", Xavier was quick to reply.

"I will never let him have you, you are mine, mine to have for as long as we both live, do you understand Laureffaine?", He seethed.

"I thought the Pack was your top priority, if the council decides, just like you obeyed them five years ago and chose Katelyn Lattey as your mate, you'll do the same damn thing", she cussed.

"You say you care Xavier, I don't need your words, it's high time you proved it", she yelled, showing how angry she was.

Xavier looked at her, he realized she was very upset. And the Laure he knew was someone who always had her anger checked.

She always had control over her anger, hell, girl always had control over her emotions.

"You know that wasn't what I meant when I said the Pack was my top priority. Yes the Pack is, but you are too, I love you Laureffaine", he tried to make everything right.

It seemed as if what he wanted to say came out wrong.

"Then what Xav?", She rolled her big brown eyes and stood up ready to leave.

She was done with he not being able to defend her. Wasn't that what best friends did, so what was he afraid of?

"Hey, hey, don't go", Xavier quietly rushed to her side and held her hand in his.

He smiled while looking at their joined hands. It had always been a perfect fit, like two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly well.

No matter how cheesy the thought of that sounded, he still liked it.

She was the best thing in his life at the moment. The only thing that brought him happiness apart from being Alpha.

She has always stood by his side ever since they were kids. And he wouldn't let something as petty as this cause a rift in their relationship.

His parents have been traveling the world ever since the title of Alpha was passed on, to him.

And it wasn't like he had any siblings, it had always been him and his best friend, the ever so wonderful Laureffaine Epstein.

His parents adored her. They even thought Xavier would refuse the council and make Laureffaine his Luna.

But at the end of everything, he listened to the council and made his love his mistress.

It was a mockery on their love, this he very much knew. And he had promised to make things right soon but he knew with Kate's father's personality it'd be hard.

The girl who climbed to the top on her own.

The orphaned girl who worked hard to be a high ranked wolf and never depended on anyone.

That was the girl he wanted for a mate and the mother of his pups. He'd be damned to loose her.

He didn't care if the Rogue Alpha was her true fated mate.

"Come here", he pushed her into his arms and hugged her tight.

"You are not going anywhere, it's me and you-

"In this together", she added with a smile and hugged him back.

There and then, she knew Xavier was her safe haven, and he would protect her.

The Rogue Alpha could try all he want, no matter how many times he attacked the Blue Lake Creek Pack, she was now certain that Xavier, her Xavier, would stick up for her.

And so she had nothing to worry about. Till date, he never defended her but he had promised and so she knew he'd fulfill his promise.

Because the Xavier she knew would never go back on his words. He was a man of his words.

She was scared that her mate might take her away. But Xavier's  promise had her feeling all good.

She stayed in his office reading a book, while he attended to some paperwork.

Now all that was left to do, was wait for the council to arrive.
