Rain's POV She looked serious. Shayla had never had this look since we became friends. It showed how serious she was about it. “How—?” Confused, I asked. “How am I supposed to do this?” “Stop being dumb and wake up—” Shayla walked to the window area so she could mop at me from there. “I'll help you. You know this already. All we need is to turn heads against each other and plan our run, Rain.” She caught up with me on the bed, yet again. “But this time around, we must be very careful. This plan could take even months. We just need to be sure it is successful at the end of the day.”She was making a lot of sense. A lot of sense I could almost never make. “This is a good idea, Shayla.” I got up. My legs reached the window side now. “I've never thought about this. I could never, if you didn't come up with it on my behalf.” “That's why you have me.” Silence ruled the room now. She thought about it, and so did I. I would never have thought this would work. But now that I thought
Rain's POV I could see that he was hurt. I didn't know what exactly made him angry, or moody, but it had to be me. Or maybe not. The way he looked at me at intervals during the meal. The way he glanced at me before he left the hall a while ago. All of these things were something to worry about. I put another spoonful of meal in my mouth, with a wish that this moment would come to an end. “Are you alright?” “Yes—” I nodded and looked at Kane. He didn't seem to have noticed the tension in the hall. Maybe he did. Or not. But he didn't see it. The Alpha was a lot and ignoring could be one of them. “This is enough for me. I'm waiting for you to be done so you can be taken back to your chamber.”He sipped water and looked at me. “I forgot to add that you'll be going to the tailor's shop next week. Shayla and one of the guards can see you at the shop. I should come along with you but I will be busy.” “Oh, my lord. Thank you.” “Not yet. Get the clothes first. All I need you to do i
Alec’s POV It was another week. Yet, another day to see the face of a man I wished I didn't have to. Every new day of a new week was a day to meet up with the Alpha at the dining hall. It hadn't happened in the last three weeks because I didn't want to go. But it didn't change the rules or anything. There was no way I would ignore today. “Good morning, Beta Alec.” “Good morning and how are you?” I adjusted my coat. The weather wasn't so nice this morning, it hasn't been nice since a night ago. “Have a good day—” I added as I walked towards the living room. This was the time to have that moment at the dining hall—I just had to be there. But what next? Doesn't the Alpha think he owes me an apology? Can't he see he should apologize to me? Why isn't he doing that? A scoff escaped my mouth and I wondered now about how the moment would start or even end. In silence? Or would we talk about the issues? “Good morning.” I stood at the entrance of the hall. “This is the point where
Rain's POV Everything happening currently shocked me. I was more than shocked, in fact. The side of a man I didn't know existed was beginning to show itself to me. How didn't I know he was sweet? “Thank you—” I muttered again. But I had one final question. One I had been meaning to talk about for a long time since I was brought back to the pack. “I have one thing to ask you though, my lord.” He shot me a glance. The same look of detest that had always been on his countenance was there. What did I do now? “What is it you want? Ask me.” He adjusted on his couch and I looked around once again. There were not many people in the space with us. The guards were here, as well as some maids. “Have you suddenly lost your voice?” I snapped out of my thoughts and shook my head. “Not at all. I thought I should let you know I would love to speak with Shayla. Be rest assured I don't have plans to run away. There's nowhere I would go even if I succeeded. Shayla is my friend and I think we sh
Kane's POV It's been over a week since she was brought back to the Pack. Over a week since I last spoke to Alec. We talked, but not as best friends should. Why should a woman even be the cause of a rift between us? I wished I cared but I didn't. Rain didn't cause a rift between us—it was he who caused it on his own. By himself. “Good morning, Alpha Kane.” “Good morning to you too—” I looked up and met the gaze of my guard. “Is there a problem?” There became a confused look on his countenance. Then he began. “It was you who asked me to be here as soon as I could yesterday night. You mentioned there's something you would love me to do for you, my lord.” Oh. I recalled. “Yes. There's something I need you to do for me. That'll be bringing Rain over here. You're another person I can trust with her, but you must be very careful while holding her. Even though she's fully recovered, I don't want her to be stressed. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?” He bowed. “Yes, my lord.
Rain's POV What. Just. Happened? The kiss was short. Very short. Strangely, it had an effect on me. At that instant, my mouth opened, and I shut it back. What could I say now? Thoughts resumed running around in my head. None of it made any sense. The Beta in my chamber, kissing me. “I'm sorry—” words I didn't expect him to say dragged me from my thoughts. When I looked up, he was on his feet, heading towards the door. “I'll come back to see you when I can, but think about what I have said.” What did he say? The Beta talked about a lot. Many things I can't even recall. Which one of them did he want me to think about? “Wh—which do you refer to?” “Taking you out of this pack, Rain—” his tone was low. “I'm sure this is what you would love.” A smile appeared on his countenance. Another appeared on mine, one I didn't mean in any way. All of these were overwhelming for me. Especially that kiss. One I didn't know the right reaction to give, even at this point. “Have a nice day,
