Chapter 4 (Confusion)

....

(Aurora's POV)

My heart completely sank. Leaping and almost bursting through my chest, for I have crossed part with the devil himself. And no, he is nothing like the tales told, he is not an ugly red man with horns but rather a beautiful man with luscious hair who can easily bewitch one with just a single stare.

His golden brown eyes, which I clearly remembered changing color, shone brighter when he smiled even though I could tell those smiles were fake, all a sham to manipulate another victim....

Not minding that I stood before him, with a wine bottle in my hand waiting to be dismissed. He whispered sweet words to the lady who seemed to have lost her sense of control completely lost in his gaze not even sparing a glance at me. She continuously ran her hands all over his chest giggling as her voice filled the room.

"Ahem! Ahem!!" I cleared my throat nervously, still hoping to be dismissed. All my head could think about is the fact that he was real. It wasn't a dream and I definitely wasn't hallucinating. Right in front of me throwing away decorum, he went in for a kiss cupping the face of the lady.

Disgusted, I averted my gaze.

"Stop it" a high-pitched giggle "We are not alone yet," she mumbled lightly, hitting his chest in excitement, my eyes wandered around the room, especially resting towards the ceiling. I refuse to make eye contact.

"Why are you still standing? You want to watch?" he asked, addressing me, my mouth fell as words refused to form.

"Am sorry sir," I apologized immediately running off from the room.  I held my chest breathing out from relief closing the door behind me.

"What took you so long?" The voice startled me as I stumbled back, my heart almost leaping out of my chest.

"You scared me," I let out followed by a confused brow arch. It was Sarah, I thought she was off work.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be off work?" I asked as she smiled suspiciously.

"Oh about that, I took more shifts for more pay," she said, tucking her hair behind her ear as I watched her cheeks flush. A bit taken aback I nodded wondering about the sudden change of heart, I remember just how she begged me to return so she could get off work only for her to take more time.

"Come," she suddenly whispered, dragging me by my hand straight to the elevator heading to our duty department.

"Tell me about it, I heard it's the CEO's half-brother," she began as I nodded remembering what my manager said.

"I heard he is dashing, everybody is talking about how he looks like an angel, is that true," before she could even finish, a frown found a way to my face, of course the devil has bewitched my co-workers as well even without meeting them.

"What are you talking about?" I asked disgustedly.

"Are you saying he is not handsome?" she asked, for some reason, I was flustered and taken aback, not able to lie I nodded.

"I mean he is good-looking," I said as she giggled, lightly tapping my hand.

"You are so lucky, you are always lucky, I always get the Ugly ones, you are so lucky, everybody has been raving about him, am sure he has a nice personality as well," I chuckled upon hearing her words. Mostly because of her repetition of the word not knowing just how wrong she is.

"If only you know what he is like," I mumbled. From the side of my eyes, I could see her adjusting her dress, pulling her skirt to go up more, confused. I looked around only then did I notice Gabriel approaching.

The newly hired handsome chief. Ever since he joined the company I have noticed how her behavior changes around him, but coincidentally his shift and mine always collide for some reason.

"Let me guess, you picked more shifts because of him," I whispered as she blushed and denied it immediately.

"That's a lie, I just needed more money,"

"I believe you know how important this guest is?" he said directly to me upon approach as I and Sarah stared at each other, I could see the disappointment in her eyes. Like always he ignored her obvious flirty smiles.

"Uhm yes, at the moment I believe my company isn't needed so I was dismissed," I replied following him back to the kitchen leaving Sarah behind.

"Were you really dismissed or did you leave without waiting for his words," his tone was cold, well it has always been cold, a bit taken aback.

"Well, he was in the company of a lady, wouldn't it be disrespectful to watch?" I asked, watching his brows farrow.

"What is his palate like?" Gabriel changed the topic putting on his apron as I watched agape, I didn't even ask, I was so scared and consumed in the fact that he was a devil I forgot to do my job.

"oh let me guess, you didn't ask," he clenched his jaw clearly annoyed at me.

"Am sorry sir," I said slightly lowering my head as I cursed myself within.

"I understand that you might have your personal Issues but that shouldn't affect your job, you took some time off work when you are not even a full-time staff member and still you can't get your shit together."

"Excuse me?" offended I glared at him, the last time I checked, he is only a chief and also not a full-time worker. And how on earth does he know I took some days off work.

"I will sort this out...." I paused, swallowing down my anger and spit, he really stepped on my patient but there are rumors that he has connections with the CEO so I held back.

"I appreciate your concern but my personal life is perfect....sir," I managed to say before I stormed off finally, I always thought he was pretty cool and chill but I guess not...

Angrily I made my way to the elevator heading to his suite, no matter what is going on I needed to earn a living, my mothers health is very dependent on the money I send back home. The elevator door opened on his floor, from a distance I could see a bunch of men dressed in similar suit attire walking away closely connected, their movements were suspicious and it took me steadying my eyes on the floor to notice the staggering heels of a lady. I approached slow a bit paranoid as I stared straight at the door of his suite.

And of course, the door was slightly opened. My senses tingled as I slowly became more aware of what I just witnessed, gently tapping on the door, my heart beating fast. He has done it again. If what I just witnessed is correct. He has again sucked life out of another victim. The more I thought about it the more my heart continued to pound.

I continued to knock with trembling hands, no response, I waited watching the door open completely by itself, it was my chance to run but still within me, besides the fear is a raging anger, what sort of demon is he? What have these women done to deserve this?

I stepped in, unable to stop myself as I slowly closed the door behind. The room was dark, a strange smell filling my nostrils. The bed was empty and the doors leading to the balcony were wide open.

"Where is he?" I whispered tiptoeing to the bedside, a candle was lit. The room suddenly feels eerily as the air becomes stronger, the French doors by the balcony making an awful sound as the air pushes it around.

"What are you doing?" the voice came from behind as I screamed, turning around and falling at the same time.

The lights went on as I held my chest. In front of me, he stood bare-chested with a cup of ice cream in his hands looking at me with a raised brow. I immediately averted my gaze, flustered by how perfect his body appeared.

"You scared me," I managed to say, still holding my chest.

"What are you doing sneaking around a man's room in the dark?" he asked, scooping a spoonful of ice cream. Just where on earth did he get ice cream from.

"Uhm the door was opened," I answered searching for what to say.

"Is that supposed to mean an invitation?" he asked, finally moving away from me. I watched his perfect back, I gulped watching his perfect back muscles, drooling in jealousy at how perfectly slender his waist appeared from the back. His long hair was a bit wet as if he just took his shower. He casually took a seat at the dining area still scooping his ice cream. Something about the way he looks right now seems nonthreatening. Like for a moment I forgot he was the devil.

"Not really, I actually came to ask you what you want for dinner," I finally managed to say, looking around. What really did he do this time to the woman he came with?

"What do I want for dinner? Will you prepare it yourself?" he asked, taking me aback.

"Am not a chief sir," I said while he giggled, his laugh raspy, it seemed genuine although it didn't reach his eyes.

"Then the chief should be here instead of you, don't you think?" he asked, getting up from his chair, seemingly done with the ice cream. Panicking I began to move back watching him closely, my heart which was settling down immediately picked up a raise.

"Sir, what happened to the lady you arrived with?" I asked, he paused his demeanor immediately changing as he slowly turned to look at me. The air in the room suddenly grew thicker and it wasn't from the air conditioner.

"Why do you ask of her?" he asked approaching me, something in me shifted as my fear slowly turned to determination. I moved back but refused to avert my gaze.

"You did something to her right? Like you did to the rest?" I accused, he stood before me, slowly his stoned face cracked a smirk as he turned away from me walking away.

"You are daring, little firecracker, I like it," he smirked while I listened a little confused. picking up a shirt lying on the bed. I held my chest again steadying my breath as I shook my head wondering what came over me to make me behave irrationally like that. I just put my life and my job on the line for no reason.

"If you are asking whether I satisfied her... Yes, I did," he said with a wink while putting on his shirt. He knows exactly what I was asking about. He knows I know his secret but he doesn't care... But why?

"And yes... Do you go around entering the rooms of other men or is it just me?" he asked with a frown, I swallowed lowering my gaze.

"I am sorry sir, I overstepped," I apologized, entering an occupied suite is not only disrespectful but also very dangerous.

"Am not always generous but I think we are getting along just fine so I will scratch that," he said while I remained quiet watching him closely. He looks very human. If not for the things I witnessed there was nothing suspicious about him, his good looks makes it hard for people to see him as a threat. But I know better not to be fooled.

"Lead the way," he snapped his finger, getting my attention. Shamelessly I did as he said walking ahead of him while he took his time following behind. All of a sudden it feels like I do not know how to do my job. A huge part of my job is engaging in conversation and making sure a client is comfortable but not this one.

Taking a fast stride to the elevator I held it open waiting for him to join me, with a smug smile he joined the elevator with his hands tucked into his pants.

"How long have you worked here?" he asked, breaking the deafening silence.

"Uhm..." my mind went blank as I began to think of it before realizing I am not really obliged to answer any personal question….
