LOGINI threw the damn agreement into the shredder,” he spat. “I’ve already canceled an important meeting for you; I can't waste any more time.”
He hadn't changed one bit. He was still that angry, impatient man I’d left behind who thought the world revolved around him. Or rather, “ my world.” If he didn't want his time wasted, why the hell had he followed me back there?
Whether he shredded the documents, burned them to ashes with a lighter in his study, or kept them somewhere—it was none of my business.
I stepped back from the door and stared angrily at his face.”My intention to divorce you is serious and solemn. If you don't accept a divorce by agreement, then I will have to file a lawsuit. That will only waste more of your ‘precious’ time, Mr.Man!” I made that much clear.
At one point, my mind slipped back to thinking about the man who was probably still hiding somewhere in the house. I stood in front of the door, blocking Daniel from sneaking a peek inside and seeing something he shouldn't. This cas could escalate from an ex-couple bickering over divorce documents into something far more dangerous.
Daniel moved even closer to the door, but I couldn't back up an inch—-it was as far as I could go to protect the entrance. I silently reveled in the fact that he was affected by my refusal to step aside.
Daniel gritted his teeth and said, “I’ll say it one last time: whether we divorce or not is not up to you!”
He even had the nerve to tell me I had no say in the matter. That I had no right to break off the alliance? Thanks to Daniel, the fear I’d felt earlier about the man in the house turned into annoyance.
How dare he presume to dictate my choices, denying me control over my own life? I had tolerated his domineering attitude for far too long, but now I had reached my limit.
I realized there was no reasoning with him. In fact, I didn't have the time to argue. Daniel would always be that stubborn.
I swallowed hard and bit back the words I wanted to hurl back at him.
Instead, I sighed and asked, “You really want to talk about this?”
“Yes, and you are coming with me now!” he demanded. His tone brooked no argument.
I stood there for a moment, exhausted, rubbing my temples tiredly before reluctantly agreeing, “Fine, if you are so interested in wasting your time talking, why not.”
After glancing quickly back inside the house and seeing no sign of the man, I thought stepping out now would probably be in our best interest. He probably needed to leave as well.
I walked out of the front door and shut it behind me.
“After you,” I said to Daniel
He turned to me with a frown and stepped off the porch while I followed behind him.
I walked slowly behind Daniel, who strode angrily ahead. My eyes caught a metal pole lying nearby in the garden. It was a simple pole, but at that moment, it was the perfect tool.
Glancing back at the mark, still a few steps ahead, I took a breath and stepped away from the path to pick up the pole from the ground.
The object was heavier than I had imagined, but that was less of a problem. The real problem was right in front of me.
I walked behind Daniel, holding the pole tightly i n my hands. I positioned myself right behind him and waited for the perfect moment to strike. When he stopped to look at something on his phone, I saw my chance.I swung the pole with all my strength.
I hit him hard on the back of the head.
I hadn't expected him to lose consciousness so quickly. Despite all his bravado, he crumbled to the ground, knocked out by just one blow. There he was—all that aggression sprawled on the floor.
After dropping the pole, I went to meet his assistant waiting outside the gate. “Come and take your boss out of my premises,” I said
The assistant sat in the driver's seat.
At first, he seemed confused, but when he looked at me and saw Daniel lying on the ground, he sprang off the car.
“Mr.Torres! Mr.Torres!” he exclaimed. Rushing to Daniels side and checking for any sign of consciousness.
Mr.Torres was out cold, unfortunately.
Even when the assistant tried to lift him Daniel was too heavy. But eventually, he managed to carry him over his shoulders and away.
Daniels hands dangled uselessly over the assistance shoulders. With effort the assistance shoved Daniels body into the back seat of the car.
Then he returned to me after closing the door.
“Mrs.Torr—”
I held out my hand to silence him.
“A new lady will soon inherit that title. Please call me Miss Turner. Also, tell your boss I will resend him a divorce agreement. Please have him sign it as soon as possible so we don't waste each other’s time.”
The assistant nodded with an expression that clearly said, “ I don't”{ want to get involved.” He turned away with a curt bow.
“Have a good day.” I called into the wind as he settled into the car with his boss and started the engine.
I waited until the car sped off into the distance before finally turning away. When I saw the front door again and remembered who still waited inside, the tension and fear I had lost earlier returned immediately.
At first, I thought, should I just take the opportunity and run away?
But something held me back—I didn't know what. I kept walking toward the door.
I pushed it open after a deep breath and stepped inside, but I didn't go far. I searched the house with my eye for any sign of him. He was nowhere.
I walked deeper into the house and looked around more thoroughly.
He was really gone.
I could hardly explain the relief that washed over me, along with the immediate anger that someone had actually broken into my house despite its tight, expensive security.
Angrily, I marched to the landline and dialed the security company.
“ I need to upgrade the security system at my villa,” I snapped as soon as they answered, not bothering to sound friendly. “Villa number 27, in the hills. Your system failed me tonight, and I wont tolerate it anymore. My life was in danger moments ago.”
The operator said something, but I was too annoyed to listen patiently.
“We apologize for the inconvenience ma’am,” the operator said. “ We will send a team to upgrade your security as soon as possible."
I gave my villa number again. I expect your team to be here first thing in the morning,” I added and hung up with a frustrated sigh.
The events of the evening had rattled me in just a matter of minutes. Just when I thought I could finally rest, my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID and sighed. It was my dad. I answered reluctantly.
“You must come to my birthday party this weekend with Daniel!” Dads voice roared through the phone. Before I could respond, he hung up.
I rolled my eyes in speechless frustration. Dad had always been adamant that I be with Daniel, despite all my repeated attempts to show him how much I hated it.
I pulled out my phone, opened the call log, and found my dads number. With a firm press, I brought up the options menu and selected “ Block Number.” A confirmation popped up, and I tapped ”confirm.” The number disappeared, banished from my contacts.
I dropped the phone on the couch, sank the floor, my back against the soft cushions, and rested my head wearily on the arm of the couch.
Despite how angry and upset I was, I knew I still had to go back for a visit this weekend. It was Dad's birthday and it would be the best moment to announce my divorce from Daniel. They needed to know I was really serious about ending it all.
I groaned as I turned in bed. My head throbbed dully, and I held it as I slowly rose. I looked around, wondering why I was at home when I should have been at work. I dropped my head into my hand and tried to remember. It didn't even take a second before the memories rushed back.My assistant had been able to locate where Rose was, and I had left every task to speak some sense into her. I remembered ordering her to follow me then…I frowned. Everything had gone back.“That witch! How dare she hit me?” I gritted my teeth as I got off the bed. I glimpsed some medication on the drawer as I staggered out of my room. What was wrong with her? Why was she this, this far? I wondered. The sound of wood banging against walls reverberated through the house as I threw every door open.“Where the heck is she?!”The staff of my household just stood there speechless. Some flinched each time a door banged.I was asked where she was about a dozen times, and they answered a dozen times that they didn'

As soon as I returned to the airport, I already saw Nancy waving eagerly at me from the other side. Enthusiastic smiles and grins curled up my lips the closer I got to her. My short trip had come to an end, and I might say those had been the happiest three months of my life in a long time.I wheeled my suitcase faster behind me and rushed, also waving back at a Nancy as I hurried to meet her where she was standing. At first, I hadn't noticed but someone familiar walked quickly past me. I couldn't help but pause and turn; I could swear I recognized that back. No one could tell me otherwise, it had to be Daniel, it was him.I was right, I confirmed to myself when I actually stopped and turned back. To look at the person. It was Mark. I couldn't have missed it, walking with those fast strides of his as usual. He probably didn't see me or? Or maybe he didn't recognise me again? I’d been gone for just three months, but if that was enough time for him not to know who I was from just a glanc
I pulled into the driveway exhausted. Another long day of both work and fun had left me drained, and all I wanted was to unwind and relax. I stepped out of the car and loosened my tie, eager to get inside and finally relax. When I entered the house, I saw Rose seated there, staring at me with her usual blank look. I barely spared her a glance while heading straight to my study. “I want a divorce,” Rose said before I could even reach the sanctuary of my study. “Divorce? Ridiculous,” was the first thought that came to my mind. And ridiculous it was indeed. The family business of Rose's parents had been lent to the Dragon Group, which I owned. It was a contract that benefited both parties in every sense of the word. Rose was just a woman I’d married who depended on her parents and me for survival. “Divorce, huh?” It was obviously her new way of crying for attention, like she was fond of doing. It used to be the pitiful demeanor she carried around her, which was enough to convince a
The soft wind of the night continued to whip my hair to and fro while I stood outside with my suitcase next to me. I was finally out of that house. Not far ahead on the street, I noticed headlights flashing brightly in my direction, and a faint smile crept onto my lips because I recognized who it was instantly. The flamboyant red sports car pulled up right in front of where I stood, and an even more flamboyant woman sat in the driver's seat, twiddling her fingers at me as she rolled down the window. It was Nancy.Nancy was not only my best friend but also my business partner. We had been inseparable since our college days; because we both share a passion for fashion, we decided to turn our dream into reality by co-founding Luxora, a modern, fashion-focused e-commerce site that swiftly rose to popularity among young tastemakers.Nancy had a keen eye for design, so she took charge of designing a stunning clothes collection, while I took charge of designing jewelry at our equally owned s
Did I say that’s how it started? The truth is far worse. It was dated back to when I was three and had unfortunately gone missing. For 18 long years, I lived away from my home and family. Growing older. As I grew older from being a child to a teenager and then to a young adult, I kept trying to trace my origins. The day I finally met my family—the dream I had waited for—turned out to be nothing like I expected; there were no joyful embraces, no tears of happiness.Rather, I met with something close to apathy. It felt like I was a nobody who had drifted into their lives. My parents seemed to have moved on from me long ago; all the love they had was for Anita, and barely any remained for me.I guessed there was nothing left. In fact, if there was, I would at least have been pitied enough to be told that Anita had returned from abroad and had somehow found her way into my husband's arms.Almost immediately, my phone buzzed with an incoming video call from Anita.picked it up but ended up
