I barely noticed the days slipping by.

I hadn't accepted my fate, not really. But as time passed, I found myself slowly growing accustomed to it.

One year.

Just one year of pretending to be Vincent Moretti's wife. After that, it would all be over. The contract would end, and I could finally reclaim the life he'd taken from me.

I only needed to endure it. To be wiser with every decision I made. And, most importantly, to keep my emotions under control whenever Vincent was around.

later that afternoon after that unexpected never ending uncomfortable conversation with Victoria, I came to find Teresa, Yet she just told me to go directly to Vincent and tell him about my plan to visit my Family's house since he didn't let her manage it. Though I was a little bit hesitant 'cause I don't want to disturb him minding his business again, I still pushed myself to see him. I went to his office, Unsure about how to approach him. The door was slightly open, and I could hear the quiet tapping of his fingers against his keyboard.I knocked."Come in."He didn't look up as I entered."What is it?"I stopped in front of his desk."I need to go to my parents' house."That got his attention. He lifted his eyes to mine."For what?""Some personal belongings. I also want to visit my family.""When?""Tomorrow afternoon, if that's possible."He leaned back in his chair."Take one of my cars. I'll have someone drive you." he ordered."I have my own car, and last time I checked I co

  • CONTRACT WIFE OF A BILLIONAIRE MAFIA BOSS    CHAPTER 10

I had always believed that the easiest way to survive a situation I couldn't escape was to stop expecting anything from it. Expect nothing, and you wouldn't be disappointed. Ask no questions, and you wouldn't have to deal with answers you weren't ready to hear. And, above all, never allow yourself to care about something you were destined to lose. It was a simple rule. One I had followed for years without much difficulty. Unfortunately, Vincent Alessandro Moretti had a way of making even the simplest things complicated. Especially when it came to my own feelings. Yesterday, Victoria Romano had arrived at the estate, until now I still couldn't get her words out of my head. "He loved me once." The way she had said it had been deliberate, almost triumphant. She hadn't merely wanted me to know about their past. She had wanted me to understand that, before I came into Vincent's life, there had been someone else. Someone who had once occupied a place I had never been offe

And, most importantly, to keep my emotions under control whenever Vincent was around.Whatever I was beginning to feel for him, I couldn't afford to let it grow.I shouldn't let my guard down around him.I should never forget who he was.Who he was in my life. Two weeks had passed since the business gala, yet that conversation in the car remained fresh in my mind. Neither of us had brought it up again, and I had no intention of doing so.I chose to forget about it, too.I couldn't afford to give meaning to the things Vincent did for me. After all, I was nothing more than a woman who had signed a

The reception was held at one of the city's most prestigious hotels. The moment we stepped out of the car, photographers swarmed around us.Flashes exploded from every direction.I instinctively stopped walking.Vincent's hand immediately settled against the small of my back."Keep walking.""I'm not used to this.""I know."His voice was low enough that only I could hear him."Look at me."I did."Ignore them."His hand remained at the small of my back as we entered the hotel. For some reason, that simple touch made me feel safer. And that bothered me more than the cameras ever could.Although my family was well-known, I had never been the type to attend parties and social gatherings regularly. I disliked being the center of attention, especially when it involved cameras flashing in my face and strangers watching my every move.I hated it.And tonight, I was expected to endure all of it while standing beside Vincent Moretti.Inside, everything glittered.Crystal chandeliers hung from

Time passed so quickly that I barely noticed when night fell. I had spent the entire day locked inside my room, thinking, questioning everything, and searching for answers I wasn't even sure I wanted to find."You don't know everything about your father, Elara."His voice kept echoing in my head, over and over again. No matter how hard I tried to convince myself not to believe him, I couldn't stop myself from wondering how well I truly knew my own father.Did I really have to start questioning the kind of man my father was? Was that why he had given me away so easily to someone he knew was dangerous? Was I simply not important enough to him?Who should I trust?I no longer knew.I rose from my seat, intending to leave my room and look for Teresa. I was about to ask her to bring me something to eat when my gaze fell upon the coat stand.Hanging there was the coat Vincent had draped over my shoulders last night.I let out a sigh, walked toward it, and took it off the stand. For reasons

I always wanted answers, but when Vincent finally gave me one, I couldn't handle it. I thought I could, but I was wrong. I couldn't sleep. My mind kept wandering back to that warehouse, and that man's terrified face, covered in blood. Lot's of things running on my mind, and No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the image and the thoughts out of my head. It was difficult to forget. No matter how tightly I squeezed my eyes shut or how hard I tried to force myself to sleep, I simply couldn't. The fear I'd experienced during those hours seemed determined to stay with me, refusing to let me go. I immediately sat up, let out a deep breath, and climbed out of bed. I was wearing nothing but my silk nightwear—a spaghetti-strap top and short shorts—so I grabbed my pink robe and quickly slipped it on. I wanted to go to the garden for some fresh air, hoping it would help calm my mind and eventually make me sleepy. As soon as I reached the ground floor, one of the security guards station
