Chapter 42: Carriage

I awoke with a startle. The carriage was dark, just like outside, with a dim glow of fire making its way inside. I heard demons talking, fighting and drinking. We stood still.

Just as I was about to lean forward to look out the tiny window, I sensed another presence in the carriage.

"Sam." I breathed out, catching my heart with my hand. This guy got a 10+ on his sneaking skills.

"Flower. We really have to work on your awareness skills. I have been sitting here for the past half-hour." Sam casually said, holding a drink in his hand. He sat on the other side of the dark carriage, his posture relaxed with one elbow resting on the window sill.

A sword lay next to him on the bench.

"I'm a deep sleeper." I offered as excuse.

"So it seems. But you'll have to fix that before we reach my sister tomorrow. Lucifer enjoys scaring humans." He replied, taking another sip of his drink. "And you don't?" I questioned with a raised eyebrow. Humour shone in his eyes as he regarded me. "I would say
