Carl felt his world spin out of control. Here he was, caught red-handed by only the cutest boy he already imagined his whole future with.

He hoped Kyle didn’t notice the burning red color that was starting to creep on his cheeks.

“Well, I guess you know what time it is, right?” Kyle says in a casual tone.

Carl gulps.

“What?” he asks, confused and slightly scared. What does he mean by that?

Kyle points to the other side of the room, where a big desk with microphones and headphones are set up neatly, waiting to be used.

“It’s podcast time! You promised you would do an episode with me, remember?”

Not wanting to blow his cover, Carl immediately nods but on the inside, he was crying frantically. What are we going to talk about? If he starts asking a lot of questions, I’m dead.

“Well? Don’t be a stranger, have a seat and let’s do this!” Kyle politely pulls out a chair for Carl and Carl hesitantly sits. Now any focus Carl had previously on the mission at hand went out the window because

“Okay, but what about this: Your Honor, Dave Owens is a slut,” Remi Movato reads off a piece of paper.“Yeah, no, I love that. But before slut, add huge. That way, it’s more accurate,” Dave replies and the boys have to stifle their laughter.Remi and Dave have been bonding over what she should say about him for the next court hearing for at least an hour and a half, all without Remi noticing that it’s Dave she’s talking to. So far in her speech, Carl counted three sluts, five skanks and one mega beyotch who deserves to get murdered. They were only on the first paragraph.“Oh my god, Davina, you’re so right though,” Remi replies to Dave, or “Davina,” his “girl” name he came up with for this situation. The sleepover was going well, and the boys were enjoying themselves, something they didn’t expect at all. From the moment they arrived though, they realized there was too many witnesses that would get in the way of them kidnapping Remi. So, their new approach? Get close to Remi and get th

  • Carl v. Ash Cannon Prep   Brit Brit’s Salon

“Just tell him he’s ugly and he got acne,” Real Carl says plainly on the phone to his panicked doppelganger. The big question in discussion: How do I stop Kyle McLartney from getting too close?“No, but for real, I didn’t mean to, it just happened and…” Fake Carl says in a rush, losing his ability to articulate his thoughts by the second.Safe in a comfy guest room bed, real Carl rolls his eyes. Despite the many warnings in the manual, he knew this was going to happen. No one could resist Kyle McLartney’s charm. Not even himself.“Look, it happens, okay. I knew that slut would be the end of you. Just don’t talk about what happened in the 6th grade, okay? If that comes up, refer to page 189 in your manual. There’s a ton of subject changers in there,” Cosgrove explains and as if on cue, changes the subject.“So, did you end up finding out the strat for Rock Camp 3? What are Remi’s plans?”“SHIT. I FORGOT ABOUT THE MISSION.”At this, real Carl face palms. Why did I hire this idio

The sun was beginning to set and the real Carl’s daily anxieties about the future began to sink in, as he tossed and turned in his bed. Before carrying out the final part of his plan, which he was choosing to keep secret for the time being, he thought his family’s vacation home would be the best place to hide out for now. His mind began swirling with questions: How were things going back in Ash Cannon? Had anyone figured out his plan? Were they torturing his poor doppelganger? He knew Dave probably was in his own Dave way, but as for the others, he wasn’t so sure. Nowadays, he had no clue what was going on with the people close to him. It was something Carl wanted to work on but didn’t know how. Being a kid lawyer had taken the light-heartedness from him and replaced it with a heavy burden. Deciding that this pity session was too much, the real Carl grabs his phone and calls the only person that could answer any of his questions: the fake Carl.A couple of rings went by until a s

  • Carl v. Ash Cannon Prep   Planet of the Rich and Stupid

Present Day...“CARL! WE’RE HERE!” Dave shakes Carl awake. He must’ve fell asleep and was just dreaming. But one look into his bag with the manual peeking out ever so slightly and it hit him—the stuff that went down between him and the real Carl were very much real. And there was no easy way out of this.“Alright gentlemen, welcome to planet of the rich and stupid! Also known as our school. Carl, I know what you’re thinking and yes, we’re late and also no I cannot call Ryan Reynolds to bail you out of this one. Judge Louis will probably kill you anyways because you don’t even have an argument prepared,” Orville says plainly and Carl slams his head into his hands. Why out of all days does it have to be today that I’m late?! This is the most important hearing of my life! Or at least that’s what the manual said.“Dad, cheer up! At least it’s sunny! And the boys from the volleyball team are out practicing on the field today,” Dave says innocently. Carl didn’t even catch that he had on

  • Carl v. Ash Cannon Prep   Doppelgänger

Three Months Earlier...“Sir, the next candidate is here, should I let him in?” an old man’s voice echoes in the study of the real Carl Cosgrove. His study was a collector’s paradise, filled with all sorts of gadgets and trinkets the kid lawyer himself had collected over the years. A lot of it was movie memorabilia, with most of the props coming from the Rock Camp franchise. Along the wall, there are trophies and plaques, with most having “BEST TEEN LAWYER” or “BEST STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE” on them. It was a luxurious sight, really. Complete with a mini bar and everything. But with just the scrawny teen boy in the middle—lonely, very lonely.“Yes, Stan, you can let him in. Thanks,” the real Carl smiles softly at the butler but there’s a hint of pain in his voice and Stan can tell. But he doesn’t dare acknowledge it, as there was no use in getting the real Carl to admit to anything besides “I’m doing good” and “I’m fine.”Both were lies. And both parties knew it.This time, however
