I answered Nyla's call on the first ring, tears still spilling down my face.

“Ophelia?” Nyla called. “What did Erick do?”

“He left.”

“To where?”

I sniffled back my tears. “Said he's working overnight”

“Good” Nyla responded, getting me surprised. I blinked. “Good?”

“Yes. That means you are getting out of that house” Nyla said. “Dress up and meet me at the Goddess clubhouse in thirty minutes”

“Wait, what?” I blinked, my voice filled with shock.

“Just do it, Lia. Please…..” She muttered. “We need to lighten your mood, huh?”

I didn't feel like going anywhere, but I didn't feel like staying home either.

“Okay” I muttered.

The call ended and I stood up lazily, heading to my closet to find something to change into.

I found a black mesh bodysuit, putting it on with a lace bralette underneath. I paired it with a short leather skirt and a jacket, walking out of the room with my bag.

I didn't drive. I hailed a cab instead.

Nyla was standing in front of the ‘goddess clubhouse’ when I arrived. She smiled and giggled when she saw me.

“You look hot” I managed to say.

“You don't look bad too” Nyla nudged me. “You’d make heads turn in that room only if you'd get rid of that shitty jacket and skirt”

I forced a laugh. “Stop it, I'm here to drink”

A moment later, we were inside the club where loud music threatened to rip our ears off.

“A glass of whiskey for the both of us” The moment we settled down in front of the bartender, Nyla ordered.

We watched from the bar as people went wild. Ladies danced, men grinding their cocks against their ass.

Twenty minutes and three glasses later, Nyla was gone. She had been dragged away to the dance floor by a regular she knew.

I chuckled, shaking my head at the thought before I resumed drinking.

“Pour me another drink,” I said to the bartender.

He hesitated. “You look too drunk right now”

“Hell, that's none of your concern” I snapped.

He poured the drink without another word, and I took the glass to my lips, thinking about my four years of marriage as every drop disappeared into my throat.

For months, Erick had been slipping away from me. He arrived home late, worked overnight often, made excuses for everything and those things? He was doing them to create distance between us.

My face twisted in anger as I slammed the glass back to the table, startling the bartender.

I was tired of everything.

Tired of the excuses, tired of being ignored, tired of everything……

“This won't do” I muttered to myself, standing up immediately. I dragged my drunken self to join the crowd, ripping my jacket off me and dropping it to the ground.

I danced to the rhythm of the music, running my hands through my hair and whining my waist.

Suddenly, a jacket draped over my shoulder. I froze and glanced down, realizing it was mine.

Strong hands spun me around and I saw Erick. My eyes were hazy, his face blurry under my vision.

He held me by the hand and dragged me away from the crowd, leading me to sit on one of the chairs in front of the bartender.

“Erick?” I called. “What are you doing out here?”

“Get a grip, Ophelia!” He said. “It's not Erick”

I blinked hard, forcing my eyes to focus. Slowly, the blurry face suddenly became clear.

A strong jaw, high cheekbone, straight nose and dark blue eyes that stared deep at me.

My breath caught.

Staring back at me wasn't my husband, but a man I should never want.

Diego.

My father-in-law.

“Why…..are you here?” I whispered.

Diego stared at me for a moment before his gaze turned to the empty bottles on the counter where my bag was seated quietly.

Without a word, he crouched down in front of me, close enough to make sure I was looking at him.

“How much have you had to drink?” He asked.

I didn't answer, I only looked away from him.

“Ophelia” he called, voice firm and controlled.

“Look at me”

I turned my face reluctantly, my eyes meeting his concerned gaze.

“Where's Erick?” he asked quietly.

I didn't answer. I only stood up, the chair scraping against the ground.

“I need to visit the restroom”

Before Diego could utter a word, I turned and hurried away from his sight.

I liked being around Diego, but at the same time, hated him being too close.

I didn't use the restroom. Instead, I walked into a quiet hallway filled with private rooms and leaned against the wall, releasing the breath I had been holding.

Why was Diego here?

Why him of all people?

I closed my eyes shut, releasing another shaky breath. Tonight was already messed up, the last person I needed to see was him.

But I couldn't bring myself to stop thinking about him.

“Are you okay?” A thick voice sent shivers down my spine, forcing my eyes to snap open.

Diego was standing a few feet away from me, his expression unreadable, but the concern on his face clear.

I asked again. “What are you doing here?”

Diego's reply came, fast and sharp. “I could ask you the same thing”

The scent of sandalwood mixed with cigar smoke filled my nose, making my pulse quicken.

“Talk to me, Ophelia.”

“I'm fine”

“That's a lie” Diego's voice was calm, controlled.

I tried to hide it by not looking into his face. “No, it's not”

“Then look into my eyes and say it”

That was the biggest mistake I made. I shouldn't have lifted my gaze, but I did.

My heart hammered when our eyes met, my legs slowly moving to Diego without a word.

I stepped into him, placing a hand on his chest and arching my body into his.

Diego looked surprised. “Ophe—”

“Do you know how hard you've always made this for me?” I asked.

“You are drunk,” Diego grabbed my wrists, his voice strained. “I will take you home”

“I'm not drunk” I snapped. “I know what I'm doing”

I closed the space between us, standing on my toes and leaning into Diego.

Time seemed to stop when my lips touched his, and my heart skipped, breath getting caught in my throat.

This? It was a drunken mistake I shouldn't have made.

Reality crashed into me harder than a storm. I had done something forbidden, something unforgivable.

I kissed my father-in-law.

And the worst part? I didn't want to stop there.

Erick's POVThe house didn't feel like home anymore, It was strange.I'd spent years believing this place was mine. Now, every room reminded me of someone who was no longer there.I loosened my tie as I stepped into the bedroom, the silence followed me inside. No soft music drifting from the dressing room, no books scattered across the bedside table, no lavender candle burning by the window.Everything looked exactly the way it should.Yet something was missing.Someone was missing.I rubbed the back of my neck and walked toward the wardrobe.Mason had called earlier to remind me about tomorrow's meeting in Australia. My passport was somewhere inside.I pulled open the wardrobe doors, the left side was almost empty, only a few of my suits remained neatly arranged. The right side...I froze. That had been Ophelia's side. The hangers were still there.A silk scarf hung forgotten near the back, gently swaying as the wardrobe door settled open.I reached for it without thinking. The fami

Ophelia's POVThe sound of my phone ringing pulled me from a restless sleep. I reached for it without opening my eyes."Nyla?""No," a calm female voice replied. "Good morning, Mrs. Willow. My name is Claire. I'm calling from Harrison & Cole Attorneys."I sat up immediately."We're handling the divorce papers you requested."The word divorce still felt strange. Heavy and like it belonged to someone else's life."I wanted to let you know the documents are almost ready," Claire continued. "Once you review and sign them, we'll arrange for them to be served."My fingers tightened around the phone."I understand.""There are a few financial details we'd like to discuss in person.""I'll come by this afternoon.""Perfect. We'll be expecting you."The call ended and for several seconds, I remained still, staring at the blank screen. Four years.Four years of marriage would soon be reduced to a stack of legal documents.I drew in a slow breath before resting a hand over my stomach."You and

Erick's POVSleep had become a stranger.I lay awake staring at the ceiling, listening to the steady ticking of the clock on the wall.Every time I closed my eyes, the same images came back.Ophelia climbing into Diego's car.The hospital envelope in her hands. The anonymous message. You're asking the wrong questions.I turned onto my side and glanced at the empty space beside me.Reina had fallen asleep hours ago.Or at least she wanted me to believe she had.Lately, it felt as though we were both pretending.Pretending everything was normal.Pretending there wasn't a wall growing between us.Pretending trust hadn't quietly packed its bags and left.Carefully, I climbed out of bed and walked downstairs. The house was silent.I poured myself a glass of water before stopping in front of the living room window.Rain had washed over the city earlier, leaving the gardens glistening beneath the moonlight.Once upon a time, Ophelia loved standing here whenever it rained. She would curl up o

Ophelia's POVI hadn't realized how hungry I was until the food arrived. The aroma of freshly baked bread and warm vegetable soup filled the table, making my stomach growl softly.Diego pretended not to notice.Instead, he poured a glass of water and slid it toward me."You should eat while it's hot."I nodded."Thank you."For the first few minutes, neither of us spoke. The silence wasn't uncomfortable. It felt... peaceful.A feeling I hadn't experienced in a long time. After tasting the soup, I realized how empty my stomach had been.I finished the bowl before reaching for the grilled salmon.Diego smiled to himself."What?""I was beginning to think I'd have to convince you to eat.""I didn't realize I was that hungry.""I don't think you've realized a lot of things these past few days."His words weren't meant to criticize. They simply sounded... honest.I lowered my fork."You're probably right."He took a sip of his coffee before asking, "How are you feeling?"I knew he wasn't t

Erick's POVThe photographs refused to leave my mind.I'd already looked at them more times than I cared to admit, yet my thumb found its way back to the screen. The first showed Diego holding open the passenger door of his Rolls-Royce.The second captured him getting into the driver's seat while Ophelia sat inside.Nothing about them suggested an affair. If anything, they looked... ordinary. Then why did they bother me so much?I zoomed in again.Ophelia held a hospital envelope close to her chest, almost as though she didn't want anyone else to touch it.My eyes drifted to the anonymous message beneath the photographs. You might want to ask why your ex-wife was leaving the maternity wing with Diego Willow.I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. The maternity wing. The words echoed inside my head.A soft knock broke the silence."Come in."Reina stepped into the study carrying two mugs of coffee. She placed one on my desk before settling into the chair across from me."I thoug

  • Carrying my father in-laws child    Chapter Eleven

Erick's POV The house had never felt this quiet. I stood in the nursery Reina had insisted on decorating, staring at the tiny white crib against the wall. Just yesterday, I had imagined carrying my child through this room. Today... I couldn't even bring myself to step inside. The fertility report was still folded in my jacket pocket. I didn't need to read it again. I knew every word by heart. Permanent male infertility. The diagnosis hadn't changed. Which meant only one thing. The baby Reina was carrying wasn't mine. The bedroom door creaked open behind me. "Erick?" Reina's voice was gentle. "I've been looking everywhere for you." I didn't turn around. "What do you need?" "I wanted us to have breakfast together." "I'm not hungry." "You've said that all day." She walked into the room and rested a hand on my arm. "Talk to me." I slowly looked at her. "When were you going to tell me?" A flicker of confusion crossed her face. "Tell you
