Chapter 74

The next few days followed a similar pattern. After work I found myself on the phone with Logan for around an hour. It was becoming our little ritual each evening. Thursday night's call was later than anticipated though. I was already in bed and found myself half asleep when he called.

I answered the call, “Hi.”

“Sorry it’s late, did I wake you?”

I couldn’t stifle my yawn, “a little but I wanted to hear your voice.”

“I should let you sleep.”

“I want to talk to you; sleep will still be there afterwards.”

“I’m not even home yet, I think I'll be sleeping at the office tonight. This case is a lot higher profile than we first thought.”

“Can you tell me anything about it?”

“The firm has asked we say nothing until the media catch wind of it.”

“Of course.”

We talked a little longer, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open or stop yawning. Logan must have noticed.

“Babe, I'm going to let you sleep. I really wanted to come down and see you this weekend, but I think I'm going to be stuck at the office working for most of it.”

“It’s ok, I have plans with the girls on Saturday anyway.”

“Sleep tight, babe.”

Within seconds of the call ending, I was fast asleep. On Friday, we stole more messages here and there. He had already warned me it was unlikely he would be able to call me, so he sent me a few voice notes.

“Just in case you forget what I sound like.” He chuckled at the end of the message.

It was cute, I made sure I saved it. As he predicted Friday night’s call was missed, but we did talk a little on messages. I felt myself drawing into him increasingly, but I also felt like it was too soon after Brax. Confused by my emotions, I pulled away a little over the weekend to try and figure it all out. Logan was so busy I don’t think he noticed too much.

By the middle of the next week, he was making plans to come and see me. Every part of me ached to see him but with that came more mixed emotions. I agreed to see him hoping that would make my emotions a little clearer. We arranged to meet on Saturday in the city and grab lunch together and maybe catch a movie at the cinema.

Saturday morning came in the blink of an eye. I was more nervous than I thought I would be. I was up at the crack of dawn. I was in the shower and nervously cleaning around the house until a sensible hour. Logan had messaged saying he was in the car and was on his way. His ETA in the city was 11:25am. I made sure I was in the city for 11am just in case. I found a little coffee shop I had not been to before and dropped him a pin to my location. I ordered a hot chocolate and took a seat near the window so I could see when he arrived. I opened my phone and mindlessly scrolled through social media, while I waited for him.

I saw a flashy sports car pull up behind mine and my stomach instantly filled with butterflies and nerves. Logan stepped out as people slowed to look at his car. He was stopped by a passerby; it looked like they were discussing his car. He saw me and smiled, excusing himself from the discussion. As he walked in and over to me, I saw one of the barista's stop and stared while another dropped a cup of coffee on the floor. I couldn’t help but laugh gently.

He was looking extremely hot, more so than usual. I just couldn’t ascertain whether that was because he had done something different or if it was because I hadn’t seen him in two weeks and was missing him. I stood as he reached the table.

“Hey, beautiful,” he said, placing a kiss on my cheek.

I saw the girls pout before him. As he pulled back, I pulled him in for a proper kiss. I heard the gasps from behind. Logan pulled back smiling.

“What was that for?” He asked.

“I guess I missed you more than I thought.” I blushed.
