Chapter 75

I sat back down, and he took the seat opposite me. One of the girls quickly came over and asked to take his order. He ordered something I had never heard of before with extra this and that. As she quickly scribbled on her notepad and hurried away, he was chuckling.

“What was that?” I asked.

“A new little favourite, let’s see if they get it right.”

I hummed and took a sip of my drink; my eyes locked onto him. We talked about his journey and general day-to-day things for a while. He homed in on my work and how things were going. His drinks order arrived, and I watched curiously as he took his first sip.

“Not quite the same as home, but it is close enough to make it work.”

He offered me a sip, but I shook my head. He picked the conversation on my work back up. We talked for another hour or so before I managed to change the subject. He looked at his watch and noticed the time.

“We best get going if you want to go catch a movie.”

I accepted and we headed out. He offered to drive, and I was not going to turn him down. As always, he opened my door for me. The drive wasn’t too long, and the journey was mainly spent in silence. I hummed along to the music on the radio a few times while staring out of the window. I was content just being next to him. As we pulled up at traffic lights, he placed his hand on my knee.

“Everything alright?”

“Yeah, just a little distracted I guess.”

“Anything I can help with?”

I shook my head, and we finished the journey. We arrived at the cinema, and he opened my car door again. Our hands brushed on the way in; the familiar jolt of excitement hit me. I reached out and entwined my fingers with his. He gave my hand a squeeze. He paid for the tickets and ordered some drinks and popcorn. We passed through the double doors, and they guided us to the theatre number. He let me choose the seats and settled in next to me. We put the drinks into the holders, and he took the outside seat. I felt nerves building in me under the dim light.

More people filtered in, but it was nowhere near full. It wasn’t long until the lights went off and the advertisements started on the screen. We both reached for the popcorn at the same time, our hands touched, sending another jolt of excitement through me. My hand retracted quickly and fumbled into my lap. I was glad it was so dark, feeling the heat rushing to my cheeks. He reached over and took my hand, lifting it to his lips. He placed a gentle kiss on the back of my hand. He leaned over to me and whispered in my ear.

“You have no idea how much I want to kiss you right now.”

His breath on my skin prickled. I shuddered as a wave came over me and I turned to face him capturing his lips with mine. He deepened the kiss with a hum of appreciation. I wanted him and he wanted me. We pulled out of the kiss breathy and heady. I quickly took a sip of my cold drink to try and cool me down. Luckily the movie started not long after to distract us both.
