Last night was a mistake

CAMERON’S POV

Seeing Serena again after a year made me very excited than I thought I would be.She was the last person on earth I expected to walk into the mansion last night. She looked even more radiant and beautiful than I remembered, making it difficult for me to focus on anything else.

I had been to her room minutes ago and she wasn’t back from work yet. I was itching to see her especially because of how she avoided me this morning.

Interrupting my train of thought, my father's voice broke through the haze.

“You need to apologize to Kaden,” he urged.”It is better we avoid legal trouble as much as we can.”

The mention of Kaden's name ignited a fire of anger within me. While I couldn't prove his involvement in the company's embezzlement, I couldn't shake the feeling that he had some part to play, despite Pete, a worker, taking the blame.

"Apologize to Kaden? Over my dead body," I retorted. "He may not be the mastermind, but he's involved somehow. I just know it."

My father sighed, his face etched with concern. "Cameron, I understand your anger, but you need to think rationally. We don't have concrete proof, and you're at a disadvantage here. Consider the consequences if this escalates. Just say sorry to him so all of these drama can end.”

His words fell on deaf ears as my mind remained fixated on Serena. I watched my father walk out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts and mounting annoyance. Pouring myself a glass of red wine, I took a sip, hoping to calm my racing mind.

But as I glanced out the window, my irritation increased.Kaden's car pulled into the driveway, and to my dismay, Serena emerged from it.

I was a little bit angry at the sight of them arriving together.

“Well well well, guess who is going to jail soon,” Kaden said the minute he got close enough to me with a smug expression on his face.

I rolled my eyes at him, refusing to dignify his words with a proper response except for me giving him the ‘fuck you’ finger.

He brushed past me and my eyes darted to Serena who was now standing in front of me.My eyes raked down her body, noting those hot legs in that pencil skirt that looked like it was going to tear apart because of those curvy hips of hers.

“You’re not going to jail,” she sighed.”It’s not enough to. You might pay for a heavy fine but that’s just about it.”

"What happened in the car?" I asked, my eyes narrowing at her. "Your cheeks are flushed."

Looking at me, her expression guarded, she replied, "It's none of your business, Cameron." Her curt tone stung, so I followed her into the kitchen, my steps echoing her every move.

"Why were you avoiding me this morning?" I inquired.

Serena turned to face me,"We're not together anymore, Cameron," she said softly, her words piercing my heart. "Last night was a mistake."

I reached out to touch her arm but she withdrew, stepping back.

My mouth went bone dry watching her walk away, that damned ass of hers jiggling.

I had to wait for her to calm down then,I guessed.

Later that night, I was completely restless and I didn’t even fucking know why.I decided to step outside and take in the cool night air. As I made my way to the balcony, I noticed a figure already standing there. The figure I would recognize anywhere, even in darkness.

Serena stood there, her eyes widening in alarm at my unexpected presence. "What the hell are you doing here?" she demanded, staring hard at me.

I raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corners of my lips. "This is my house, remember? I think the real question is, what are you doing here?"

She sighed, her features softening as she confessed, "I couldn't sleep. I needed some fresh air."

I found myself leaning against the balcony railings, inadvertently trapping her in place. "Funny," I remarked, a devilish gleam in my eyes. "I couldn't sleep either."

“Cameron,you need to step back.”

“Or else what?”

“I hate how you are trying to act like we are besties and nothing happened between us. You never for once reached out did you?”

I chuckled, my gaze fixed on her. "You conveniently forgot to mention that you blocked me everywhere, making it nearly impossible to reach out. I tried hard to reach you,Serena but there was nothing I could do. Even till now,I’m still blocked aren’t I?”

Serena's eyes narrowed, but there was a subtle flicker of amusement in them. "You always find a way to shift the blame, don't you?"

My thoughts momentarily strayed, captivated by the image of her in a short silky mint colored nightgown that hugged her body in all the right places. Her honey blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail that I desperately wanted to run my fingers through and also..pull from the back.

She was a damned young lady with well proportioned hips, fucking tremendous ass, two enticing titties and skin all men would need to sink into and lose themselves.

I quickly snaked my hands around her slim waist and she looked at me in silence. I could hear her quickened breathing as I moved slowly, sliding my palm under her night dress to feel her bare skin.

“What are you doing!” She half whispered but my response was to gently kiss her shoulder blade and she shivered slightly.

I grasped her panties in my hand and twisted, letting out a grunt of satisfaction as I heard the wobbly ribbon strap pull away from her body.

Teasingly, I continued, "Tell me, did you ride in Kaden's car just to get under my skin? Trying to make me jealous?"

Her voice was shaky as she answered, "Don't flatter yourself, Cameron. You're not the center of my universe. We broke up, remember?"

I feigned hurt, placing my free hand dramatically over my heart. "You wound me, Serena. But fine, if we're playing the blame game, let's not forget that it was you who initiated the breakup. You decided to let me go just like that didn’t you?”

She went silent and I realized that my playful banter had taken a wrong turn. Serena's expression hardened, and without warning, she pushed me away and her palm connected with my cheek in a resounding slap.

“You’re forgetting that you slept with your freaking personal assistant on the day it was supposed to be our six months anniversary you moron!”

“Wait.. Serena.. you know it was a silly drunken mistake. It was my friend’s bachelor party as well and she happened to be there. Things got out of control and then—“

“Save it.” She cut in sharply. “You cheated. And you know cheating is a deal breaker for me. You know what? I feel like such a fool allowing you touch me like I’m your property. News flash, I am never unblocking your sorry ass and I would be out of this house as fast as I can so I can escape seeing your stupid face everyday!”

“Serena…wait—“

Stunned, I watched as she stormed away, leaving me rooted in place.
