KAIDEN

I was on edge as I considered Faith’s words. Everything she said had been true about Ryan and Cain… Hell. They had even been right about me when she first arrived, but things had changed, and I didn't see her in that same light anymore.

I needed to show her that I was different and that we were different than what she was used to.

“I could buy her flowers.” I thought out loud, but the silent thumbs down from Nova as she lay on the couch in my sitting room had me tossing that idea out the window. “I could bake her something.”

“She eats like a mouse right now. Save that for when her wolf is back.” Nova said, and I groaned, knowing she was right. “It’s funny that you’re trying to think of ways to make her happy. I don’t think I have ever seen you this whipped before."

“What other options are there?” I asked with exasperation.

“It’s really not that hard,” Nova grumbled, rolling over on the couch as the television blared behind her. To a human, it wouldn’t seem so loud, but for

KAIDENThe glares being sent my way were nothing unusual, and I couldn’t resist a smirk as Broderick’s commanders took their leave. They had been furious to be summoned by me, but they were punctual and responsive. I could work with that.“Alpha Reed,” A woman said as she led the pack, and dipped her head in submission. “Beta Johanson,” I said dismissively, as a squad of my guards went with her, prepared to take up post on their land. We had spent hours discussing the arrangement, and ultimately, it was agreed that Jackson would serve as the acting Alpha in my stead until plans could be made and that she would remain the Beta. She was furious, but even more so to hear that the Luna she seemed to despise would not be displaced yet. I haven’t heard much about Broderick’s mate beyond her being a white wolf, but with her amulet around my neck, still covered in his blood, she wasn’t going anywhere. After I got the chance to sit down with her, I would discuss with her the option of join

FAITH My wolf rose stronger at her submission, and I took a step away from Will as the shaking intensified. Even when I was the Luna of the Midnight Pack, no one had ever really, fully submitted to me. They only ever submitted to Ryan. Yet, one by one, the white wolves began to drop, and the bubbling of my power intensified beneath the surface of my skin as they did so, showing me their neck. “What is going on?” Will asked, and I shook my head, unsure. I still felt empty emotionally, and while I tried to reach for Kaiden, I couldn’t. My wolf and magic were too strong, taking over every part of my being until I had no choice. She needed to come out, and I needed to feel her, to know that she was real and that I hadn’t lost her. I couldn’t go another day without her now that I had her back, and if she was gong to show herself, I was going to let her be free, too. “Let’s go,” Will whispered, gently pulling at my bicep to keep me behind him. Still, I kept my line of sight on th

FAITH“Faith, you have to stop! You’re going to kill them, and then they will never help us.” Will insisted, digging faster behind me. “Better them, than us,” I whispered as I stared them down. The world around them went fuzzy until the only thing I could see was my two victims. “You heard it yourself. They aren’t going to help us anyway.”Two victims at one time, and I wasn’t even touching them. It was as exhilarating as it was terrifying because I didn’t feel an ounce of strain. The usual feeling of being drained, the longer I exerted my magic, was absent, and I felt invincible. “At least free Joan so she can get us out of here.” He hissed, and I considered his request for only a moment before shaking my head. The second she was free, she could bury us alive, and there would be nothing I could do to stop it.“Stop!” An unfamiliar voice cried out, and the world snapped back into focus as several people rushed forward. Even if I wanted to stop, I couldn’t. I was fueled by anger an

FAITH“Wait!” I shouted as she turned to walk away, and was surprised when she actually paused. “What can I do to get just five minutes of your time? Please! Without your help, both of your children will die! Is that what you want?” “I would never wish harm to any of my children!” She shouted over her shoulder. I chuckled bitterly at the realization that she couldn’t even look at me as she said it. There was no conviction there, just irritation that I was accusing her of not caring. “No, you’re just turning your back on them!” I said, my hand smacking against my thigh as I dropped my hand in defeat.“Faith, shut up!" Will whispered, sounding scared, but I could hear him digging away, trying to free himself. I didn’t see a point. If Joan could drop us into the Earth at will, then digging us free would be futile. There was no point in struggling when the battle here was mental. If we couldn’t get through to them, we would die no matter what, and I refused to spend my last few minutes

FAITHWill slowed, coming to a stop just as the sun began to set. I looked around at the thick forest and felt the magic in the air. There was no doubt that we had made it, Will hadn’t turned on me, but I had no idea how to get onto their land. “I don’t think this is a good idea.” He said, grabbing my arm to make me stop walking. I followed his lead and glanced down, only to immediately step back as I saw the rune on the ground. "It's not." A woman called out, and I looked up to see her almost 50 yards away, watching us. She looked familiar, but she was clearly not happy to see us."Leave while you can," She warned. "We don't take well to strangers."But I wasn't a stranger, really. I had met her before, and she hadn't killed me then, so I couldn't see why she would kill me now.“You know me! You saved me from Cain when you blew up that outpost! Remember?” I shouted, trying to remember her name as she leaned against the tree with her arms crossed. June? Jade? “Joan! JOAN!”“I don’

FAITH“This is absurd,” I muttered as I pedaled the bike faster. Never in my life did I think I would have to steal a bicycle from one of the unshifted kids in the pack. Let alone one where my knees were almost hitting the handlebars. My thighs were burning, and my butt was hurting as I sped over the uneven ground. I knew where I needed to go, I just had to get there without leaving a trail for them to follow. I wasn’t sure how long I had been riding before I hit a dirt road and began down it, panting as sweat dripped down my face and back. The crunching of gravel beneath me was almost soothing as I hit a rhythm, moving faster than before on the smoother surface, the ride becoming easier.I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard a motorcycle approaching, and I quickly dove off the road heading for the trees once more as the engine cut off behind me. The sudden transition from worn, packed dirt to the rough and uneven landscape of the natural forest was jarring. “Faith!” The man
