Everyone is quiet for a while, trying to digest the reality of what had just been saying. It had been a long time since Lauren heard the birds sing early in the morning or the early sun come down to kiss her skin a good morning. She smiled as the birds sang louder, their sweet melody making her drift in and out of sleep. She was afraid to open her eyes, she didn’t want this bliss she felt to come to an end. She felt Damien turn on his own side of the bed and drape his arm on her torso. “Regretting what happened already?” he said, his voice still deep with sleep she snuggled closer to him, his body keeping her warm “Not at all”. “Then what are you thinking of so early in the morning,” He asked. He snapped his eyes open when she didn’t answer for a while. He smiled, signaling that he had nothing to worry about “I don’t want this moment to end” she confessed “This is the happiest I’ve been since I woke in that hospital” she said. The next morning was quiet and awkward. Mostly awkward with Damien not knowing how to explain everything to Lauren. His eyes were red with eye bags, evidence that he hadn’t slept the previous night. Lauren’s face wasn’t far from his. He had gone out early that morning to get her clothes as she hadn’t come with any, so now he was pacing outside his door and wondering how to give her the items. Finally, he knocked lightly before pushing the door open when he got no response. With unsteady steps Lauren bound up the stairs of her home, her face downcast and troubled, she had a feeling something was wrong but she didn’t know what it was. Nathan wasn’t home when she came in. she looked around the house with pure disgust, she didn’t know how she was going to keep living here with Nathan and pretend that she was still the happy wife that he had married. She wanted to tear down the entire house and set it ablaze but she couldn’t do something that rash, Nathan was too dangerous. She didn’t know what she would do if he tried to harm Damien in any way. The sun was too bright, hammering down on her already aching head. Lauren rubbed her eyes but remained in bed. She didn’t want to face her reality too soon plus she was having a mad hangover. The door to their room creaked but she left her eyes closed. “I know you’re awake, come eat your hangover soup” Came Nathan’s sweet voice as he entered with the tray he was holding before setting it down on the bed. Lauren slowly opened her eyes, the sun biting into them as she whizzed in pain and sat upright on the bed. Damien was still lost in his own world, welcoming the pain that the drink the day before has brought him. he rolled over in his bed, laying an arm across to his eyes to shield it from the sun. There was an incessant knocking in his head and he couldn’t concentrate for a good five minutes before the knocking became louder. This time it wasn’t in his head. He stood up, padding around the house quietly for fear of upsetting the elephants that were currently holding a march in his head. Failure, that was the perfect word for how Damien felt. He pushed the flower vase that was on the counter on the floor and broke everything that he could lay his hands on.
