Rejects me

Watching Youngjae pass through the empty corridor caused her to stand in front of him and block his way.

These days, there were barely opportunities for them to meet alone, and he avoided any sort of contact with her. Finally Yura was able to spot him and stop him in his steps.

Seeing how the hallway was completely empty caused relief to spread through her. She did not want anyone to interfere right now.

His hands were tucked into his pocket while he raised his head to look at her. There were no emotions present in his eyes, and over this period of two weeks, it had become a norm for him to stare with those eyes at her.

She couldn’t put into words how much ache that brought to her.

“Youngjae, why are you doing? What’s happening between the both of us? Is it really over? Did you truly throw all of it away?” she questioned— desperation present in her tone.

Despite of Jisoo’s words the other day, she had a hard time accepting the truth. One part of her argued badly that this had to a cruel joke.

A sigh escaped from his mouth while he ran his hand through his hair. Then, he commented, “Ah! This is so annoying.”

Then, bringing his face closer to hers, he continued, “My dear Yura, I told you before that what we have between us could never be over.”

More confusion started to fill her after listening to his words, and creases started to appear between both of her eyebrows. Everything just felt much more puzzling to her.

“T-then, why?” she asked.

If things were not over between them, then why was he doing this to her? Why did she have to go through this series of suffering?

Bringing his hand closer to her, he gripped on to her chin and pulled it up. Then, with a sadistic glint appearing in his eyes, he smirked at her.

A chill went down her back due to the look in his eyes.

“It’s simple. You are getting punished right now,” he confessed.

This was the first time his tone made her feel unsettled and sick. Nausea started to rise within her while her legs stayed planted in that position.

There was no strength within her to cause a further movement; it felt as if she was paralyzed. Her mind was having a hard time processing the situation.

“W-What?” That was the only thing she could muster up.

Punishment?

Him treating her in this cruel manner, abandoning her so heartlessly in a world where she had no one else was a punishment?

What did she do to warrant this?

After that, he placed a soft kiss on her forehead before waking away, and she was having a hard time breathing right then. Her chest felt too stuffed due to the varied sorts of emotions that pass through her.

Clenching her hand into a tight fist, she bit into her lower lip.

Min Yura abruptly got up from her sleep, and sitting on the bed, she ran her hand through her hair. Heavy breathings left her mouth right then.

It wasn’t unusual for her to dream about the past; it happened quite often. Yura couldn’t say that she felt bothered by that, but having varied dreams sounded better.

This just made her feel as if she was obsessed with the past.

While she was about to get down from the bed, she felt a tight grip on her stomach, and turning her head, she noticed the man who was sleeping beside her.

It appeared that she had fallen asleep at his place after getting drunk yesterday.

There was nothing strange about both of them sleeping close to each other. Previously, every time when either of them used to be too anxious to fall asleep, it was norm for them to hug each other to sleep.

Smiling at the man, she ran her hand through his hair. It was really pleasant to see him sleep that well after a long time. Usually, he suffered even through his sleep.

While she pulled away his hand from her stomach, her mind went back to the dream she had— where she found out about the true motives behind Youngjae’s actions.

In the beginning, she was really frightened to know about that side of his. It felt as if the Youngjae she knew all those years did not exist, and the emotions she felt right then couldn’t be put into words.

From when she was a child, her father was not fond of her that much, and her mother was sickly all around the year. Both her mother and father did not have a pleasant relationship between them.

Her father took out all the frustrations he had towards her, and although her mother tried to make up for it, it was barely enough. Nevertheless, she appreciated the effort her mother put in.

Nothing she did was ever good enough for her father, and at every opportunity he got, he would mock her. Not once did she feel like his daughter.

Right then, the only one who was beside her and made her pass through all of that was Youngjae and Jisoo. Whenever she was upset, two of them did everything they could to being a smile on to her face.

She even thought that things will be remaining the same between them forever. How naïve was of her to even have such a thought.

Only after couple of days of finding out about his true personality was she able to know what had actually triggered him to do it.

°°°

“Even after all of these years, you are still staring at him,” Youngjae voiced out.

The two of them were at a party held by Youngjae’s family, and Yura held on to a wine glass while both of them stood in front of the staircase.

His words caused her to lift her head, and she enunciated, “Yes?”

“That Ryu Yejoon,” he spoke out, “You are still staring at him so intensely.”

“Oh,” she said, “It’s somehow amusing to watch him interact with Jisoo. Too bad, he rejects me all the time I approach him.”
