Serena's POV

Sophia sprang for the bed as if out of the fire, threw herself under the blankets, and settled into her best "sleeping peacefully" position.

I had to push my hand into my mouth in order to suppress the laughter. Her hair was mussed and she was breathing like she just ran a marathon. Very convincing.

The second knock came.

I cleared my throat, trying to sound as normal as possible. "Come in."

Damien pushed the door open and slipped in, glancing over at the bed where Sophia lay sleeping. He didn't say a word about her, likely thought she was actually sleeping.

His eyes shifted to mine. "How is she?"

"She's okay," I lied, folding my hands in front of me. "Just sleeping it off."

"I can tell that." He chuckled, then ran the back of his neck. "Listen, about last night."
