So, she doesn’t know who I am, I thought to myself, a little incredulously. This is going to be fun.
“What’s your name?”, I asked, though I already knew the answer.
Havoc jumped forward in my mind ‘Why are we playing this game? Just claim her. She’s our mate’.
I had to calm him to keep myself together. Her scent was driving me to the breaking point, but I didn’t want to frighten her. She was a little cautious as it was. ‘Calm, Havoc. She’s not 18 and hasn’t felt the mate pull, yet. We don’t want to scare her. She’ll be ours soon enough’.
She looked at me as if unsure she should answer. After contemplating me, she simply said, “Lyse.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Lyse.”, I replied as I reached toward her to shake her hand, craving her touch if only for a moment.
She looked at me, different emotions flashing across her face all at once: trepidation, a hint of annoyance (that was a new one to me, especially to my face), and curiosity. Curiosity won out and she reached forward to take my hand, losing her balance and slipping off of the edge of the rock she was perched on.
Annalyse
I reached forward to take his hand, almost as though I needed to touch him, lost in those eyes for just a moment too long, causing me to lose my balance and tumble from the edge of my rock. ‘Great. You’re going to land flat on your ass right in front of him’, Bella laughed. I closed my eyes on a gasp expecting to feel the hard ground as I landed, but instead, I felt arms as hard as steel bands wrapping around me. I looked up into his green eyes, now flashing with a hint of hazel. In shock, holding my breath in surprise as a million jolts of lightning crashed into my body along every point of our bodies that were touching, I felt an almost overwhelming sense of calm warring with something else. Something that I couldn’t describe but wanted more of.
My nipples were protruding like pebbles through my clothes where they met his chest and I could feel a hum shoot through me all the way to my knees, which were doing nothing to keep me standing, by the way.
He was looking down at me, jaw clenched as though he was annoyed with me.
“I’m so sorry”, I said looking down, embarrassed at my reaction to him. I was so unbearably hot. I could feel that my face was flushed straight to my hairline, though my wolf was practically prancing, telling me ‘He’s SO hot’, over and over. ‘Shut up, Bell. This is bad enough as it is’. I told her harshly.
Chase
I saw her start to fall and my only instinct was to make sure she didn’t get hurt, so I reached out with both arms to stop her and held her along the length of my body, my arms tightening for the briefest of moments. Need for her slammed through me the second I felt her body against mine. I knew she could feel it too; her sharp intake of breath, the way she looked into my eyes, pupils dilating as if she had just been taken over by something she couldn’t control, her taut nipples against my chest that had my lycan clawing to get through. And her flushed face, lips that were parted as if ready for mine to take them.
I was semi erect and on my way toward losing my grasp of control that was already tenuous around her at best at the feel of her against me. One of us had to break contact or this was going to get out of hand, fast. Another first for me as I was the poster child for self control and strength.
I righted her and let go quickly, and a little rougher than I wanted, causing a frown to crease my forehead. She quickly thanked me and pushed away from my body as though she had been scalded, apologizing, For what I had no idea, because touching her only left me wanting more. I wonder if she was feeling it, too. My jaw was clenched in desire for this woman, my woman and I had to back up to keep myself from taking her right there, against her rock.
“No need to apologize, Princess. I’m glad I was here to keep you from falling” … “flat on your ass in the mud”, I added trying to lighten the mood and calm my thoughts.
She blushed straight to her hairline looking a bit shocked and embarrassed and stood, sticking her tongue out at me and rolling her eyes, which only succeeded in giving me more thoughts about her tongue and mouth that would keep me awake again.
Annalyse
“I’m nothing if not a bit clumsy.”, I said as I picked up my backpack, still probably beet red and not just a little turned on from my encounter with him. I needed to get away. To walk and calm myself down. Or maybe just throw myself in the lake to cool off. Maybe some of its tranquility would rub off on me, because I was feeling anything but tranquil inside. Inside I was a churning ball of confusion and some other emotion that was yet to be named. And I was terrified he’d smell the fact that I was really aroused by the brief contact we shared. And he said exactly what Bella said to me. Was he a mindreader too? It had to be coincidence, but that was odd.
I looked up to say goodbye and his face held a trace of amusement, but his eyes...his eyes held something else entirely.
“I need to get back”, I told him, throwing the strap of my backpack over my shoulder and turning to go.
“So soon?”, he asked, giving me a look that said ‘I know something you don’t know’.
“Yeah. I’m supposed to meet a friend in a little bit,” I shared.
“Thanks for saving me. Maybe I’ll see you around sometime.” I said as I began walking toward the forest. Escaping felt more like it.
“You’re welcome...Lyse.” he answered quietly as I walked back through the stand of trees on the path toward home.
Chase
I watched her go, the breeze carrying her scent back to me as she went, desire and need filling every part of me. She is exquisite. And now that I have heard her voice and seen her amazing eyes up close as well as the hint of her wolf that had come through when we touched, my need to be with her was even stronger than I could have imagined that it would be. I’ve been waiting for my mate for a long time, and now that I’ve found her…
“Oh yes, you’ll see me around...sometime”, I said under my breath, anticipation coursing through me, exciting Havoc to what felt like no end.
My lycan was ready to claim her and mate her. I could feel it in him. He was strong. A fierce warrior who stopped at nothing in battle and was feared by all who crossed his path. He was one of the fastest as well, with incredible tracking ability, which was why those closest to me called me Chase. Havoc loved the pursuit. But for her, he would lay down his life to protect her and make her happy. At all costs. Because nothing would get in the way of us and our mate.
After spending some time with her and beginning to forge the mate bond that she was currently unaware of, I knew one thing: She didn’t realize it yet, but she was mine.
The chase was on.
I walked through the forest, a little faster than normal, my breath coming in pants and my pulse thrumming through me from head to toe. What was that back there? I mean, I’d seen my share of cute guys, but this one…. He had me questioning what the word ‘crush’ meant! I felt, I don’t know, different with him and it was driving me crazy, trying to pinpoint what it was about him. The way he looked at me though. I think it may be some time before I can get his eyes out of my head. I had to talk to Cassidy. Maybe she’d know. She’s my best friend. She could help me figure this out. The question was: how much did I want to share
Later that night, sitting in my suite with my balcony door open hoping to catch her scent on the breeze, I was lost in thoughts of her. I have never gotten sidetracked from anything that I was working on. Until now. Until her. I had to be near her again. My coronation ball will be the perfect time to formally introduce myself to her. Picking up my phone, I called Sam, my secretary and a friend so close we could be siblings. “Hey, Chase. Is everything alright? It’s late.”, she answered, a bit out of breath, as though she dove for her phone. “Sam, I need you to send an invitation to Annalyse Mitchell and her family in River Moon pack for the ball.” “Chase, the seating charts are done and everything has already been confirmed. K
After Cass left, I jumped in the shower, letting the heat from the water and pressure of the spray help me relax. I couldn’t seem to stop thinking about the mysterious stranger by the lake for some reason. It wasn’t just his gorgeous eyes and handsome face, though. It was somehow something more than that. I had felt drawn to him. Must be his very strong alpha aura. I wonder where he’s from that he would put out that much strength even held back like I’m sure it was. And if I’ll ever see him again. I threw on my old comfy sweats and t-shirt, ran down to tell my parents goodnight, and headed to bed. As I drifted off to sleep with thoughts of him, I felt a strange sense of foreboding. That night, the dreams started.
I woke up this morning feeling like I haven’t slept in a week. Something has had Havoc on high alert in my head. He keeps pacing like he’s agitated and I can’t get him to calm down or talk to me. He’s worried. I can tell this much. “Havoc. Calm. What’s wrong? If it’s the rogue situation, Ryker’s on it with me. We’ll protect the packs and handle the threat.” “Protect. Now.” He answered, all but jumping out of my skin. “We will, Havoc. We will.” “Not just the packs. Her.” he said, increasing his aura and anxiety. “What are you talking about?”, I asked, though I had a feeling I knew where he was going with this. “Mate. Something’s coming.”, an ominous tone to his answer.
I watched the muscles in his back flex through his shirt as he walked away. Then I looked down at the forgotten envelope in my hand. As I turned it over, I noticed the deep purple wax seal. The seal of the Lycan Prince. I hurried inside to my parent’s office to look for the letter opener and bumped into my dad on the way. “Hey, Sweets. Why in such a rush so early?”, he asked with a chuckle and a steadying hand as I rushed past him. “Well, I’m not really sure yet. Someone who works for the Prince just dropped this by and I’m really curious. And confused.”, I admitted. “Someone who works for the Prince?”, he asked, eyebrows raised. “Yeah. He told me I was to have it as soon as
I was sitting at my desk waiting for Ryker to show for our meeting, thinking about this morning with Lyse. A small smile came to my lips as I recalled her shock at seeing me. When she made the mistake of assuming I worked for the Royal Lycan Family, I didn’t correct her. Nor did I lie. I do, just not in the capacity that she thinks I do. Havoc was beside himself with wanting to mark and mate her, especially after our skin touched and the proverbial sparks went flying. I know she felt it too. I saw it in her eyes, and those of her wolf, who tried to push forward toward mine. “She ours, Chase. Why are we playing this silly game?”, Havoc huffed. “Patience, Havoc. She’ll know soon enough. And it’s not a game. It’s a dance.”, I told him. “We want her.”, he
Since it was Sunday, Cass, Cristabell and I were meeting at Tranquility. It was quiet and I had a lot to fill them in on. I wonder if they got an invite to the coronation, too. I was still curious about that. Why me?“Mom? Dad?”, I yelled up the stairs, “I’m headed to the lake with Cass and Crista!”Mom headed down the stairs with a basket of laundry, her hair escaping her ponytail, looking a bit flushed.“Ok, Sprite. Be back this afternoon by three and we’ll head out to find a dress.”I leaned over and pecked her cheek as she rushed by. “Ok. Love you. Where’s Dad?”Mom turned and glanced at me before quickly looking away. “Oh, something cam
I had one of my personal guards keeping an eye on Annalyse from a distance. With a large pack of rogues around the borders of her pack’s territory, I wasn’t willing to take any chances with her safety.Alec passed on to me this morning that she was meeting her friends today, and Havoc and I both needed to see her. He was restless not being near her and honestly, I was too. I decided to go to her lake and see her. If her friends knew who I was, so be it. She was going to find out anyway in just a few days. She seemed shocked when I delivered her the invitation yesterday, though she hid it well. I found it an adorable tell of her nerves, the way she blurted out her thoughts at high speed when she was flustered.I hurried through the forest, her scent on the wind telling me she was
