SIX YEARS LATER

"Bbrrrrrrrrnnggggg!!!" The sound of the alarm clock woke Irish and she scrambled to her feet, yawning, stretching, and wiping her eyes with the back of her palm.

She needed to prepare her six-year-old son, Jayden for school or he'd be late.

Entering her restroom, she brushed her teeth, washed her face, and tied up her hair in a messy bun. She would take her bath once Jayden entered the school bus since she didn't have enough strength to take him to school in her own car.

Last night was stressful, and she knew it was written all over her face.

Last night, she hadn't successfully told Jayden his usual bedtime stories when he fell asleep.

Sauntering over to the door, Irish squeezed the handle, yanking it open, but she found Jayden, hands suspended mid-air as he was about to knock on her door.

Seeing Jayden's face brought back memories she was so desperately trying to forget, resurfacing to the top, her feeling of nostalgia, shimmering right below the surface of her
