Killian stood there at the entrance until Mike disappeared. He clenched his hand and put it in the pocket of his coat.
Burying it deep, as if he didn’t want to look at the place Mike had touched him with his lips. It was starting to get cold, the morning chill penetrating through his body, and Killian took a deep breath before he went inside.
He took the elevator to his apartment, not turning on the lights. Killian didn’t need to as he knew his place by heart. He opened the door and hesitated before turning on the lights in there and after a while, he closed the door and leaned against it.
Killian eventually turned the lights on, took off his jacket and headed towards the kitchen.
“Whisky or vodka? “
He said, opening the liquor cabinet.
“Isn’t it a bit early for that. “
The voice came from his living room.
“It’s a bit too late if you ask me. “
Killian said as he picked up a bottle of wine and glanced around for a crystal glass.
“You’ re just getting old.”
Killian said and Garrey stood up from the couch he’d been sitting and waiting for him in the dark only a few minutes ago.
“And you’re too stupid.”
He said and came over to where Killian was standing up at the kitchen counter.
“Is Richard too busy to come and scold me by himself?”
Killian filled the glass up to the rim with the thick red liquor and took a sip from his drink. Garrey looked at him, serious.
“No one knows I am here. “
“Oh, really?”
Killian tilted his head and Garrey pointed his finger at him.
“Don’t play smart with me, I’ve known you since you were a little brat. “
“Nothing’s changed much, right?”
Killian kept drinking, “I will never learn to behave, will I? I wonder when Richard gets tired and…”
“Listen to me!”
Garrey snapped.
“I don’t care what’s going on between you and Mike. I don’t want to know. But it has to stop right now. I’m tired of walking around, trying to cover you and him. If Richard finds out, he’s dead. “ Then he added, more carefully, “Don’t you understand? “
Killian lowered his glass and placed it on the counter.
“There’s nothing to know about. “
“Really, Kil?”
Garrey’s voice was still loud.
“This is a serious warning, kid. Richard still hasn’t sent someone following you, but I had a guy check out on you tonight. But you keep walking around with Mike, disappearing out of the blue and he will. “ then Garrey added, more quietly, “You know what he is capable of doing, better than anyone. And he isn’t letting you go. He’d rather kill you, than let you go. Don’t do this, Killian. Just whatever has been going on with Mike has to stop now. For the sake of both of you.”
Killian kept his eyes fixed on the glass.
“Okay?”
Garrey’s voice was more leveled, affectionate. He’d always been watching out for all the guys in the gang, Killian especially. If he wasn’t one of the best in the mafia and hadn’t had years of experience in the mafia, Garrey could have easily been an every day man, working on cars and fixing engines, taking his kids on Sunday lunch every second week of the month.
But he wasn’t, and he had killed enough men for Killian to know that if Richard issued the order, Garrey would have to do it.
“Okay.”
Killian said after a pause and Garrey placed his palm on the counter carefully.
“It’s the best thing. It’s either that, or he becomes a target. He might be already. “
“What was I thinking?”
Killian said quietly and Garrey patted him lightly on the shoulder.
“That you can have a normal life. “
Killian laughed and Garrey dropped his hand.
“But, for real- what was the plan? Everytime Richard was gone you and Mike could go for happy walks in the park holding hands. “
Killian held the serious face for only a second before he laughed out loud.
“Holding hands? As if I’d ever held hands with anyone. Do you think Mike does this, or?...”
“Killian…”
“Okay, okay. I’ll stop. He has nice hands, though…”
“I’m done. “
Garrey held up his hands.
“I can’t. I won’t even come to the funeral. “
“I want to be cremated. “
This time Garrey laughed too.
“If they ever gather all the parts to be burned. Anyway, get some sleep and no more night walks, yes?”
“Yes. “
“Great. Now enjoy the little time off you had and I hope this is the first and the last time we’re ever talking about this.”
“Maybe one last time? “
Killian joked, but Garrey looked at him dead serious. Then he rubbed his forehead.
“You were always like this, even as a kid. “
“I was born a disappointment, Garrey. You knew that from the beginning. “
Killian lifted his glass as a “cheers” move and Garrey went on.
“Please, tell me you understand, Killian. “
“Of course. “
Garrey pushed away from the counter and headed towards the door.
“Good night, Kil. “
“Good night, Garrey. “
The man went out and Killian poured himself more from the wine. There was no point in going to sleep as he was going to have to get up pretty soon. Killian went out on the balcony, watching the sky above turning gray at the edges. If Garrey had figured something had happened between hm and Mike it was only a matter of time before Richard put two and two together- if he hadn’t done it already and got rid of Mike. Or put someone to follow Killian all the fucking time.
And that wasn’t going to be Garrey, but someone who cared way less about whether Mike lived or not.

15 years ago“Hey!” The man shouted and dropped the rest of his bags, dashing right after the boy. “Hey, you little shit, come back here!” The market was crowded, tens, maybe hundreds of people were walking around, some in a hurry, others chatting in the middle of the street, carrying bags full of tomatoes, meat and all kinds of things you could buy in this run down part of London in the China town part which wasn’t for the tourists. “Hey! Someone grab this brat, he stole my wallet!” The man kept shouting, but no one really paid attention. Stealing happened all the time here. No one cared. “Hey! Get back here or I’ll call the police!”It was a desperate attempt from the man to threaten the boy with the police, because what were they going to do about him?Judging by the ripped clothes and dirty, bare feet he didn’t have any parents, and lived on the street. Or if he did have any parents, he didn’t really have a mother who made cookies and served dinner every night. The man yel
“Hey boss, it’s me. “ Mike said and the man greeted in return form the other side of the line. “Agent Scott, it’s been a while. How is the investigation going? I received the report, you’ve gotten quite close to them quickly. Good job. I heard Paris and all that. “His boss was always saying ten things in one sentence. It was good, they didn’t have much time for idle chit- chat. “Thank you, Sir. Yes. “Mike said, “ How did you know? About France, I mean, I don’t remember reporting… “Mike asked, although he knew the Bureau had eyes everywhere. Literally. “Flynn told me. ““Flynn…Right. “Mike said, remembering what Jesse had told him. A few weeks ago Jesse had said he had heard Richard and Flynn talk about him. But then Flynn had called him, saying Mike should never trust Jesse. It was a mind - game, the kind of game people rarely got out of alive, unfortunately. The only question was- who was lying. “What do you have for me?” Mike asked, hearing some rustling on the other side o
Mike’s entire world tilted. He was imagining things. Killian couldn’t be there. He had thought he wasn't that drunk, maybe he had been wrong and had ... No, no. Mike thought. I am fine. Killian was there. He knew it because his wolf knew it too. His mate was standing there, across the street Mike sobered up instantly once he realized it. They were only a few meters apart, waiting for the other to make the first step. It was Killian who did it. Killian walked over to where Mike was standing and came to stand in front of him. “Killian, what…” Mike began, but Killian interrupted him. “This can’t happen. Never again.” Mike nodded, confused. “Okay.” “We shouldn’t be meeting, not like this. You are my bodyguard and that remains. But that's all. There can't be anythign else happening between us. I can’t come to your apartment or you to mine. “ Then Killian looked up at Mike. “Never”. His eyes were so dark, almost black in the night. Some of the people in the bar were sti
He led Killian to the bedroom. The lights in the room were off and the window was facing a dark corner of the street, so everything was enveloped in darkness besides the light the few ads from the outside were reflecting. They were standing opposite each other. Killian was silent as Mike lifted his hand and buried it deep in Killian’ s hair. Then Mike leaned in and kissed him very slowly. His lips moved lower reaching the neckline of Killian’s shirt. “Can I?” Mike asked, whispering against his mate’s skin and Killian looked surprised, but then he nodded. Mike took Killian’s shirt off slowly , then threw the cloth away and ran his hand very slowly over Killian’s shoulders, over his collarbone, then lower to his stomach. He had thought of this for so long he had forgotten when it had all started. Most likely the moment he met Killian. He’d wanted him since then. He felt Killian shiver as he kept running his fingers lower until they reached Killian’s waistline. Mike kissed his ne
“I told you to scram. “ “But I can be of help. “ “You?” I snort as I pick up my pace, “What would a dirty stray cat be of help to me. “ “I can… I can do anything. “ I glanced at him and he smiled. The boy was so pretty and it was something I had noticed even from the first time I met him- that time when he had stollen someone's wallet. "Why do I keep seeing you?" "Because you know I will be of use to you and you'll eventually pick me up. " "No chance. " I keep walking, not talking to him, but he still doesn't leave. “How old are you. “ “Eighteen “ “Yeah, right. “ “I have no reason to lie to you. “ “Boy, you have all the reasons to lie to me. Besides, don’t you see I’m cop?” This time he snortned. It kind of pissed me off. “What’s so funny about this?” “You walking around telling everyone you’re a cop, while you’re working for the gang. “ I glanced around quickly and th next thing I did was grab by the arm and lead him to the nearest corner. We took the firs
After the shower Mike shaved and got dressed. He changed his shirt twice and finally went with a plain black one. He had a coffee. Then another. The weather was bad and it was going to rain. Mike was trying not to check his phone. And he didn't. Eventually one of the guys called and said he’d pick him up because he was passing by. During the ride the guy must have spoken to Mike and most likely Mike had replied. Maybe they had listened to some music, maybe they hadn't. He had no idea. Because all of that was just background noice. He arrived at the manor and Jesse greeted him at the entrance. He was as livery as ever. They were informed they would be guarding an event tonight at one of the manors. The guys finished what they had for the morning and before he knw it, it was late afternoon. They went for lunch. Jesse sat next to him at the table, talking about everything and nothing. He was halfway telling Mike a story when he realized Jesse was asking him a question. “Uh, yeah.
The gala had started. Michael was occasionally glancing at Killian who was talking to the same old, rich people who always attended those gatherings. Some of the guests were new faces, others were actually really young but still that rich. “How’s it going?” Jesse came to stand next to him, as they were staying to the sides, being invisible to the guests. “Not much. You?” Then Jesse gave him an up and down look. “What?” Mike asked. “You smile too much. “ then his partner’s eyes fell on the perfectly made tie Make was wearing. And he gasped. “You fucking idiot.” He grabbed Michael by the forearm and clenched his hand around him. “What are you doing?” Mike asked and Jesse hissed at him. “Because of my tie?” “Not because of the stupid tie. You smell like him. Are you crazy? Why were you close to the boss?” “I am his bodyguard. “ Jesse groaned. “And now you lie to me?” “I am not.” “Of course you are.” Jesse was pissed. Rightfully so. “Nothing happened. “
Flynn He was pacing around the spacious library. Waiting. Because Richard always made him wait. As if I am some punk he’s hired to clean after his deals. He scoffed but had no choice except to wait. Flynn went over to the window and took a look around the huge backyard. Two dogs the size of wolves were running around, playing. The manor was one of the most beautiful Flynn had ever seen. Something he thought he would never have, but fate was proving him wrong. Flynn had joined the Secret Service at a young age, just like anyone in this job. The reason was simple- climbing the ranks was extremely difficult. One needed time unless they fucked their superiors. Perhaps that was one of the reasons he hated Killian so much. Another was that the guy was always looking at him in such a suspicious way, Flynn could swear Killian knew Flynn was a double agent. “That fucker, “ Flynn thought bitterly, “He’s never done anything important besides being a fuck toy to Richard. Yet, he’s the o
