LOGINLucien pov After a brief conversation with my dad, the call ended. A sharp breath left my mouth and frustrations set in at the dawn of the words my father had told me. Miles? Mayor? That is rubbish. I dragged my hands down my face. The nurse from earlier had left for her rightful spot, behind a counter. The hallway was eerily quiet except for the faint sound of footsteps from the nurses passing. My head felt heavy as if it was going to fall off my neck from the war of thoughts that were running carelessly in my head. Raina was still unconscious. And Miles' the main suspect had been released. She denied ever getting involved in Raina’s predicament. My dad told me a detective will be coming to feed me on some update and I’ll also be telling the private investigator of anything, anyone I suspect that could result in the assault against Raina. I ran my fingers through my hair, eyes fluttering shut, and my body itching. “I should take my bath,” I mumbled to myself while scra
Lucien pov “We are so sorry, mister, but you can't go in there until tomorrow. You may go home or hang around, depending on your choices,” the nurse told me when I implored her to go in to meet her. “But, she's fine, right?” My gaze was fixed on the nurse’s facial expressions. I was studying her intently. A short and warm smile spread across the nurse's lips, and she canted her neck at me. “She will be fine.” Her response didn't satisfy my curiosity hence my wolf stirred in restlessness. When medical personnel said his or her patients would be fine without answering the main questions, I guessed it called for worry. But, the nurses already have their hard days and have already told me what to do, so trying to indulge further might cause some ruckus. I returned the smile. “Thanks.” I looked around in search of where I could sit and my gaze fell on three iron chairs. I walked slowly towards the chair so at least I could sleep here and… My words got interrupted by the sudden
Lucien pov When I perused the message on my phone screen, my jaw dropped and my brows furrowed. I blinked and bit on my lower lip to be sure I hadn't been hallucinating all this while. I clicked exit from the current message I was reading and clicked on Raina’s message to read where she had told me to go home and not bother coming to pick her up. Raina had sent me that message. Then how possible was it that someone was texting me when Raina was admitted to the hospital? Was Raina pulling a prank? I scrolled to my call list and redialed Raina’s contact but it wasn't reachable. “Okay,” I muttered and walked to my car. I slid to the driver’s seat, fastened my seatbelt, and ignited the engine, and pulled out. I stepped on the throttle, swerving to the right and a car came speeding towards me, the tyres of my car screeched against the hard-tarred roads. I pulled in a reverse maneuver, swerving to my right, and stepped on the brake, allowing the car to drive past me. “Raina! Th
Jac POVThe passage was calm, I could only hear my footsteps echoing gently as I made my way past the classrooms. It was a tedious day and I was already exhausted from the day's activity. The bell had been rung for dismal almost an hour ago and almost everyone had already left for home. But not me. I'm still here, roaming around like a lost puppy with a book in my hand– Raina's math notebook. On the contrary, I'd have been at one spot doing something different or probably home trying to get some rest. But then.I had told her I was going to return it to her after class, but she was nowhere to be found immediately the bell rang. Now, I have been searching for her everywhere around the school like a detective on a fruitless case. I quickly stopped at the entrance of the art room and looked through the glass window, scanning through from one edge to the other. Yet, no sign of her. I moved to the cafeteria, also searched the Library and even the bleachers near the sports field. All was
Lucien's PovI gripped the phone so hard my knuckles turned white, green veins popping out.A sneer curled my lips upward. “If I catch that bastard, I’m ripping his bones from his muscles.”The call cut.Silence filled the place.I inhaled.Holding up my phone to eye level, the screen’s light brightened one side of my face, the rest obscured by shadows.“One more time,” I spoke out through gritted teeth.Rage swirled within me, threatening to destroy my sanity. I wasn’t sure what I should feel.Betrayed? A hint of fear flickered somewhere within me, something I snuffed out before it could bud.Exhaling, I redialed the number. Each dialing tone matched the beat of my heart. Slow but powerful, filled with anxiety.“Reina… you promised,” I let out a sigh, my words merging into the air.On the third call, she picked up.“Hello, it’s Gabby on the line. Who am I speaking to?”It was the same voice, but it sparked the rage I thought I had managed to suppress.I wasn’t here for another one of
Lucien's POV I tapped my feet multiple times. Impatience tricking inside me. I looked around the empty hallway; the place was getting lonelier with fewer students around. A lot of them trooped out already. Each time I see a group of friends, I always look around, hoping to find Raina amongst them but she wasn't there. I wanted to go into the swimming hall, but I immediately decided against it. "There's no need to be dramatic," I said to myself. "They might have extra lessons." But if they do, she would've told me, right? At least a text wouldn't be so bad. And it would help in calming this racing and anxious mind of mine. I was still shaking my feet in anxiety and panic when I saw the feet of someone standing in front of me. I looked up to see a brunette girl. I immediately recognized her to be a girl from Raina's swimming team. "Hi." She smiled. "You're Lucien, right?" I nodded with my brows slightly creased. "Is there a problem? You're from Raina's swimming team right?
