FELICITY POV
“Ugh, how in the world am I supposed to concentrate with your pup kicking me every chance she gets?” I yelled, loudly enough for Parker to hear from the kitchen.
Looking down at my very swollen belly, I sigh. It’s exhausting being pregnant, but it’s almost over. I’m currently in my fourth month with only one more to go. I hear footsteps and Parker pops his head into the crack in the doorway.
“She’s probably just hungry. If she’s anything like her dad, she is kicking because she can hear the sizzling of the bacon I’m cooking.” Parker said, giving me a wink before disappearing down the hallway.
Life for Parker and I has been great since we accepted becoming chosen mates.
I heard his footsteps heading back towards the kitchen. I rubbed a hand over my round belly. “Is that all it is? You just want some bacon?” I asked my belly, feeling silly for asking questions to our unborn pup.
On cue, my stomach rumbled, receiving another swift kick from little Lena. “That answers my question.” I chuckled to myself, swinging my legs over the side of the bed and placing the assignment I was working on next to the lamp on the end table. Standing up was a whole task anymore. I could no longer see my feet while standing. They say our pup is on the smaller side, but I’m starting to question their judgement looking at the roundness of my belly.
Waddling slowly into the kitchen, I stop, taking in the delicious smell of breakfast cooking. Parker rushes over, walking me to a chair, pulling it out, and helping me sit down. I look up at him “While I appreciate the gesture, I’m pregnant, not incapacitated.” I scolded.
He offered me a wide, knowing smile “You take care of my little princess, and I take care of you.” He leans down, pecking my lips before returning to the kitchen.
“I think you were right about the bacon. Is everything almost done? I’m starving.”
Parker chuckled at my eagerness. 'We have the sweetest mate,' Iris purred in my head. Yes we do, I thought to myself. We were one of the lucky ones. We didn't have to gamble with the bond because we chose it for ourselves.
He walked over, hands full with a plate, syrup, and a tall glass of orange juice. After setting them down, he headed back to the kitchen to make his own.
“Mmmmmmm. Parker, this is amazing.” I moaned, taking a bite of the most delicious french toast I’ve ever had.
Parker looks at me wide eyed. “Woman, if you keep moaning like that, we are most definitely not going to be finishing breakfast. At least not while it’s hot.”
I felt my cheeks flame, biting my bottom lip. I took my hand, motioning a zipper to my lips.
'Moan again, I could use a second breakfast,' Iris said seductively in my head. I nearly choked on the bite I had just taken. Parker shook his head and I couldn’t help but giggle.
“Thank you for making breakfast this morning. I really needed to get started on my paper.”
Parker took a bite of bacon, “Of course. Anything for my girls. How is the paper going?”
I narrowed my eyes at him “You should not speak with a mouthful of food, but it’s coming easier than I expected. I’m actually almost done. Once I finish it and turn it in, it’ll be exams and then I will officially be done!” I explained excitedly. It was always a dream of mine to become a teacher.
As soon as I knew I had my life back, it just felt right to pursue it. I owe my life to Parker.
“Always so proper...” Parker huffed, shaking his head, “Anyways, I’m so proud of you. You’re going to be an amazing teacher. All of the pups will love you,” he walked over, leaning down close to my ear, "Almost as much as I do."
I couldn’t help the smile the spread across my face. It felt good to finally have everything falling into place after spending so long assuming my life would never amount to anything.
“What do you have planned for the day after you finish your paper?” Parker asked.
“I’m meeting Cami around lunch. We are going to eat and then I’m accompanying her to her doctor’s appointment since Kai is out of town.”
Cami, my best friend, just found out that she was expecting a pup with Alpha Kai. We are over the moon about being pregnant together and having pups so close in age.
“Congratulate her for me. I hate that we have been so busy with training that the four of us haven’t had a chance to get together in a while.” Parker frowned, sadness lacing his words.
Ever since we found out about the humans looking to hunt us, he has stepped up training for our warriors. As of now, Parker is the only wolf here with a special ability, but we know that Helena has a high chance of inheriting healing powers, and Parker is taking the threat very seriously.
I don’t blame him. The fear of losing either of them to some sick circus causes my heart to constrict painfully.
I feel tears stinging my eyes and before I know it, they are falling freely.
Parker rushes over, squatting down next to my seat. “What’s wrong baby?” he asks while tipping my chin to look him in the eyes.
“I was just thinking about those horrible people capturing those of us with special abilities. I can’t lose you. I can’t lose our pup.” I was full-on sobbing now. Stupid pregnancy hormones make it hard to control my emotions.
“Look at me. If I have any say in this, they will be dead before they lay a finger on you or our pup. Don’t stress about it. We are training hard to make sure we are prepared in the event that they would find us.” Parker wiped the tears from my cheeks. He stood, pulling me up with him, and wrapping me in a hug. My belly pushed a little distance between us. He rubbed his hand up and down my back, the tingle of our bond soothing my emotions.
“I’m sorry. I just thought about how scary the situation would be if they found us and my emotions got the best of me.” Parker leaned down, capturing my lips in a gentle, but dominating kiss.
He leaned his forehead to mine. “I will protect you both with my life. You have nothing to apologize for,” He whispered.
I took a deep breath, calming myself down. “I love you.” He smiled, pecking my cheek, “And I love you more.”
I reluctantly put distance between us, knowing that he needed to get going if he wanted to be on time for training and I needed to focus on writing my paper. Parker picked up the plates off of the table, placing them in the sink, before quickly changing into basketball shorts.
Parker's sandy blonde hair was cut short on the sides while keeping a bit of length on the top. He had a t-shirt thrown over his shoulder, and I was salivating thinking about watching him train. The way sweat glistened off of his muscular chest.....
“Be safe today. Don’t be too hard on the warriors.”
'You should tell him he should go hard on us, if you know what I mean,' Iris piped.
'Pregnancy hormones getting to you too,' I quipped. I heard her grumble before going silent. Sometimes I wish I could seriously tune her out. If she had her way, Parker would have been locked in our bedroom, naked, for the last four months.
He leaned in, pecking my lips quickly. “They won’t learn anything if I go easy on them. Love you.”
“Love you more!” I shouted after him as he rushed out the door.
Time to focus on this paper and not Parker's drool-worthy body.
The night was finally here and the room was full. People from all walks of life sat at small round tables together. “You look beautiful,” Wyatt whispered in my ear. I decided to wear an all-black sun dress and just enough eye makeup to accentuate my eyes. We opted to keep things fairly casual for the evening. That way, there was no pressure on our new members. Many came here with next to nothing, and didn't want a free handout. Wyatt’s father was sitting at a table chatting with a beautiful vampire. He had a broad smile and she was laughing at whatever it was he was saying. He held Dex in his arms and kept glancing down at him while speaking with the woman.“I think that your father might be smitten.”Wyatt followed my gaze, “Oh yeah, he’s in trouble. Or maybe she’s in trouble.”Kiera joined us, “There are far more people here than I thought,” she whispered, nervously wringing her hands. “You have nothing to worry about. You’re a natural.”She took one final deep breath before taki
“Do we have all of the food prepared for the evening?” Two of the kitchen staff stood before me with clipboards. We were going over everything needed for our welcoming party. We had an overwhelming response once we began sending out invitations for the Safe Haven. At first, it was like a shockwave to the supernatural community. Unheard of in a way. A lot of packs returned our letter, accusing us of trying to steal their members. Some packs asked to come in and see what it was exactly that we were working so diligently on. We had five Alpha’s meeting Kai in total confusion on why we would welcome those of different supernatural races into our pack. ‘Werewolves are supposed to run packs for werewolves!’ they’d say. But in the end, they weren’t why we were making the program anyways and we held no room for their outdated ways. Once we had a few wolves show up, it was like the domino effect. It quickly became apparent that we were not prepared for the task ahead of us. “I believe so
I’ve been trembling with excitement since we arrived. Felicity was sitting on a small bed with a towel on her lap, fidgeting her fingers since the nurse brought us in here. They’d taken a small vile of her blood and we were patiently waiting for the ultrasound tech to come and start looking at our pup. “I hope they hurry up. I’m going to burst here in a moment.”Felicity giggled, leaning down and capturing my lips in a sloppy kiss. A soft knock at the door had her pulling away and in came a young nurse. “Are you two ready to see your fledgling?” she asked with a warm smile. I’ve been calling my pup a kin, or pup, but the correct term is fledgling. The more you know...Felicity leaned back on the table as the nurse squirted jelly on her exposed belly. I grasped Felicity’s hand, squeezing it tightly. My eyes never left the little screen as she placed the wand into the sticky substance. A wiggly bean appeared on the screen causing my eyes to instantly well with tears. That little t
I decided to walk back home slowly, thinking about everything that had happened. I don’t want to believe that Parker is still in love with me. The thought makes me feel dirtied, like I'm betraying Kiera. She deserves his whole heart just as I've given mine to Wyatt.‘Can I come to you?’ Wyatt’s voice floated in my head.‘Sure, I’m walking home from the lake.’Less than thirty seconds later, Wyatt appeared in front of me. I could feel his guilt as he stood there wringing his hands.Closing the distance between us, I wrapped my arms tightly around his body and angled my face to look up at him. “Are you okay?”His arms snaked around my back, pulling me flush to him. One hand rested on the back of my head and the other squeezed my midsection. His chin rested against my hair, “I feel awful for how I acted earlier. Kiera didn’t deserve that."“I’m sure she will forgive you.”His head fell onto my shoulder, “Did you talk with Parker?”“I did.”He pulled away from me, “That’s all I get?”I s
She nodded and he leaned forward, crashing our lips into hers. His hands went into her hair, gripping it tightly. He pulled her closer to us, snaking a hand behind her back. The sparks from their contact were electrifying. ‘You taste like heaven,’ he growled, ‘Better than heaven.’ I typically wouldn’t have given Ash full control but I felt like they needed this moment. She climbed onto his lap and from where I was in his mind, it was like watching a show. Almost like seeing my mate with myself but from the outside, which was an interesting twist. He gripped her sides, positioning her directly on his lap. She leaned forward, capturing his lips in a dominant kiss. He plunged our tongue deep in her mouth and she let out a muffled moan. ‘Will you let me explore you, Kiera? I want to show you just how much you mean to me.’ “Please,” she moaned out. He stood, her legs wrapped around our middle and he carried her to the room. ‘Don’t be too rough,’ I warned. ‘Go away,’
As we ran through the thick foliage, Felicity’s voice was on repeat in my mind. I needed to forgive myself. Let go of the need for control. How does one do that when it is the only thing that they know? ‘The Goddess made Kiera for us. She doesn’t make mistakes,’ Ash muttered. That was only one piece to my puzzle. How do I forgive myself for not being there when my parents needed me? When Felicity needed me? When..... I needed me? Ash followed Kiera’s scent back to our house and I silently thanked the goddess that she still came home after I had embarrassed her today. He shifted, giving me control. I quickly threw on a pair of shorts and rushed inside. Kiera was sitting on the couch with a packed suitcase. The sight broke my heart. “Are.... are you leaving?” Her gaze met mine and I saw her puffy, bloodshot eyes. She probably hasn’t quit crying since I left the pack house. The thought that I caused that was a suckerpunch to the gut.“I think that would be what’s bes
