I paced back and forth inside my office, my mind swirling with frustration and confusion. My mind was drifting to the events that happened earlier, with my mate, Mallory, rejecting intimacy from me. What does it mean? Didn’t she feel the mate bond between us?

“Obviously, she didn’t. She’s a human, remember?” My wolf, Lucian, emerged from my mind. “She won’t feel the mate bond the same as you because she didn’t have a spirit wolf.”

I took a deep breath and slouched on my chair. Obviously, I was aware that she didn’t have a wolf. And yet, I couldn’t help but wish that she had a certain attraction for me like what I had for her.

Lucian might have sensed my melancholy. "Our bond with her might not be defined by a certain mate pull, but that doesn't mean it's any less significant. Remember, she is our mate. With or without the pull, she belongs to us as we belong to her.”
