NAERIS
“The Vaelen’s are hereby sentenced to death by the gallows for treachery.” I watched from a corner as they dragged my mum and dad, hands bound with chains to the front of the field but there was no sign of remorse in their eyes.
“Any last words?” One of the gamma's voices rang out and I fidgeted as his eyes glued onto me once for longer than usual.
“If we had the opportunity, we would do it again. The King is making a mistake by going against other packs unnecessarily.” My mum yelled and I could feel a lump in my throat as I heard the words protrude out of her mouth.
If only why could be so humble to beg for their life, I might have been able to get on Talon's good side so he could talk to his father.
But there was no remorse. It made me wonder if for some reason, maybe they were right but now wasn't the time to make assumptions.
“Very well then. Proceed.” The gamma ordered and they dragged them up to the podium while his eyes settled on me and I saw whisper into the ears of another warrior with his eyes still fixated on me where I stood in front of the crowd, tears slipping out of my eyes.
“Come with me.” I felt a cold tap on my shoulder and I jerked, swiveling to see the same guard that the gamma had whispered something into his ears.
“Why?” That was the only words that could come out of my mouth as he began binding my hands with chains and dragged me towards my family.
“No! No, I did nothing. My family are already paying for their sins, why do I have to be punished as well?” I screamed, trying to wiggle out of the chains but the more I tried, the more it dug into my skin making the surface red with blotches.
“Vaelen’s are traitors and you are one of them. You should be sentenced.” He whispered into my ears and I kept struggling harder in the chains.
“No! No, you can't do this.” I yelled but it was quite visible that I was overpowered and had absolutely no say.
“Talon. Talon, please.” I yelled to the Alpha's son who was also my mate but his face remained stoic and cold, clearly letting me know that he had no choice in the matter.
I kept struggling, thrashing out and throwing a tantrum as I wiggled against the chains till I was able to slip away and ran in the direction of Talon and his father, the Alpha.
“Please, please you have to spare my life. I didn't do anything wrong. My parents are traitors but you can't judge the sins of the father unto the children.” I begged on my knees, sniffing as tears blurred my vision as I turned to stare at Talon again but this time, he wasn't even looking at me.
His whole attention was on the field in front of me.
“I would never do anything to hurt the royal household, you know that Talon. I'm your mate, you have to believe me.” His father stared at the exchange without a word but I knew he was considering my plea when the guards came to drag me away and he stopped them with a cool finger gesture.
“The blood of the Vaelen's runs through your veins, girl. And it is one flooded with treason.” He pointed out and I sank my head into the floor, tears no longer able to flow out of my eyes.
“Please, please just spare my life. I didn't commit anything and I would never. Talon is my mate and I'm loyal to him. I don't mind working as the palace maid for as long as you wish just to spare my life.” I pleaded.
Somewhere deep inside of my heart, I wished I could plead for the life of my parents the same way I was pleading for my life now but even I knew that was never going to work.
The Alpha had his heart sealed in that direction.
I turned to stare at my mother who looked at me like she was pleading for forgiveness.
Treason against the royal home was on a other level but my parents even led a rebellion and would have helped another pack win against my pack.
They believed the Alpha was no longer ruling well enough and needed to be dethroned and that was their only option.
Talon bent slightly towards his father and whispered something into his ears and I swallowed hard as his father's eyes dilated.
He is my mate and he is speaking on my behalf, I knew it. He acted like he didn't care on the outside but deep down, I knew that all filled in there was warmth and love that he tried hard to bottle up.
“What’s your name, girl?” The Alpha questioned and I answered immediately, almost biting on my tongue.
“Naeris.” He nodded, sitting upright in his chair.
“Very well, then Naeris. You will be spared but must work as a maid in the royal home untill I say otherwise.” Relief flooded my heart as I prostrated one more time in gratityde and flashed Talon a warm smile while mouth a ‘thank you’
“Let the execution continue.” The Alpha announced and I shut my eyes tightly as I heard my mum let out a tiny shrill in death, same as my father and brother.
I gritted my teeth as my eyes were already swollen in tears as I made a silent vow.
My parents were traitors but what if they were right? And if they were right, Talon's father would pay for all of it, I would make sure of that. The rest of the pack including Talon had no say but the Alpha?
He would surely pay for wiping off the entire legacy of my family even though he spared my life. That would be the mistake he made.
Grief flooded me as I opened my eyes to see the guards chopping up their heads to hang on the city wall and I chattered my teeth together to prevent me from screaming.
Breathe Naeris, Breathe. Please, restrain yourself Naeris.
“Talon.” I whispered when I suddenly felt it so hard to breath and felt myself falling. I needed someone to hold me, my visions were blurring and darkness came in flashes.
“Talon.” I was standing close to him so I stretched out my hands to reach out to me but he stepped away suddenly like I was a plague before turning to stare at me.
“Talon, what's wrong?” I tried to put on a smile but his face, it showed in every angle that he was serious.
“I, next in line to be Alpha Talon Voss, rejects you Omega Naeris Vaelen as my fated mate.” My mouth dropped open in shock as the pain suddenly hit me, like my heart was being pulled by strings in different directions.
“Talon.” I coughed out as I placed my hands on my chest, heaving deep breaths in and out but the pain was too overwhelming for me as I fell to my knees.
“You know more than anyone that you are unfit to be my mate, let alone to be my Luna. You're weak and also the daughter of traitors. You should be grateful your life was spared.” I felt tongue tied as I stared at him in shock.
My vision was completely blurred and I could only see him but only hear his words which cut deeper than a knife could ever go.
And then, darkness settled in as I felt myself falling to the ground while my entire body went numb.
Vaelora's POV I groaned from the pain as I slowly got off the floor. My hand pressed hard on my forehead as I sat upright, with a pulsing headache behind my head. I swept my gaze around where I was and paused when I saw Elder Ryder sitting on a chair a few steps away from me. “You're awake.” He smiled and I frowned, watching him cautiously. I noticed the scattered room and wondered what had happened here. I couldn't remember anything. I looked down at my hand and my eyes widened in horror. My nails were gone and so was the flesh on my fingers. I could see my bones. W-what happened to me? What did he do to me? A squelching sound filled my ears as my injuries slowly healed and soon the nails returned. My hands trembled violently and all I could do was sit in confusion, wondering what I had done while unconscious. Somehow, I couldn't feel the pain. I squeezed my hands and shut my eyes in relief when I felt the sensation. I returned my attention to him and tried to o
Verek's POVI stormed down the hallway to Nyxion's office, my heart an aching mess. Inside my head, my wolf wouldn't stop howling in pain.'We should have claimed her before he did!’ He howled painfully and I could hear the regret in his words. 'Why did you have to be so stubborn? Now she's gone and her heart only belongs to Aeron.’'He marked her! She has his scent on her! It's unbearable!’ He roared, his voice sending waves of pain into my mind.I hissed sharply, pressing my hand to my head. “Enough! You're making it ten times worse. I'll handle everything. I just have to get close to her just as he did.”“But first I must take care of the fool I call a brother.” I glared at the door as I approached it. The guards on patrol glanced at me before moving away without a word.I lifted my leg and kicked the door, blasting it open. I walked in and the first thing I saw was Nyxion standing before a huge portrait of… Sirella?“You still have that?” I frowned in displeasure. “I saw you get r
Naeris's POV “Umm…” I inhaled the fresh air and exhaled, my eyes opening to the flowers around me. “Hah.” A soft smile spread on my face as I bent down and picked a flower. I gently examined it, my smile widening even more. But right then a snap sounded behind me and I turned sharply to see who it was. The smile on my face disappeared in an instant when I saw him. My brows shot up at him, wondering what he was still doing here. His eyes stared at me for a while and I saw the conflict in them. “He is going to be fine. Aeron will be back in no time.” My heart clenched at his words and I remembered Aeron was not in the palace anymore. I had forgotten his absence for a minute, but sadly, Verek here made me remember. Does he not know how to read the air before speaking whatever gets inside his head? My eyes rolled at him and I turned away from him, distancing myself as far away from him as I could. I rarely had long conversations with him which made his presence around me suffocat
Vaelora's POVI stood in the corner, impatience growing in my chest. I had been trapped here for hours.Every time I tried to leave, Ryder's watchful eyes made it impossible. If I forced my way out now, it would only make me look suspicious.Ahead of me, several elders sat around a long table, engaged in what was clearly a secret meeting with Ryder. And I was certain of one thing.Whatever they were discussing here would only make my situation more dangerous.“I believe this is the right time to change who leads this pack,” Elder Cana said coldly. “We cannot allow the triplets to maintain control any longer. They have proven themselves unreliable… and useless.”“You're right, Cana,” Elder Xavier agreed calmly, stroking his beard. “We have waited years for this moment. There is no better opportunity than now.”He turned his gaze toward Ryder, who sat quietly reading a report.“We tested them,” Xavier continued. “To see whether they were truly fit to lead. The results only confirmed wha
Aerila's POVI barely managed to get off the ship before more people climbed down behind me, carrying their goods with them. My hands flew to my mouth as a wave of nausea rose in my stomach, the urge to puke making my head spin.“Where am I?”My eyes swept across the unfamiliar place. Merchants guided their bulls that pulled heavy carts filled with goods. Children ran around with their friends, laughing loudly despite the bruises and small injuries scattered across their bodies.I had thought the ship was sailing straight to Talon's territory. But midway through the journey, it stopped at this port, and I was forced to sell my footwear just to afford the next ship.“It would have been too suspicious if Vaelora knew this place.”That was what I had thought from the beginning. Apart from working for my uncle, I had always suspected she had some deeper connection with Talon.Where should I go from here?Right now, I am no different from a homeless person.I took out my small bag of coins
Naeris's POV“No.” My head shook before I could stop myself, my hands holding his tightly. “Please don't go.”“But I have to. It's already been decided,” he replied calmly and I saw the patience in his eyes.“No!” I snapped and his brows lifted in surprise. I didn't know what was coming over me. “I don't want you to leave. I'll be all alone… and unprotected. Bad things always happen when you're not around. Aeron… please.”“Naeris.” His hands suddenly let go of mine and cupped my cheeks. He pulled me closer until I was looking up at him, his face hovering just an inch away from mine. “I will make sure nothing happens to you. I promise you. I will never put you in danger like last time.”“You don't understand, Aeron. Just listen to me. I already have a bad feeling about this. My instincts are never wrong when they sense danger.” I grabbed his shirt tightly. If this were the only way to make him stay, I would do it until my fingers broke.“Can't your brothers go instead? Verek is very go
Nyxion's POV The play pen was alive with little children, running around and basking in the faint moonlight. It wasn't uncommon for them to be up this late, but I was extremely tired. This wasn't what I had in mind when Aerila dragged me out here. "Babe! Come! The kids want a painting!" Aerila ca
Naeris's POV I stared at him, a million thoughts swirling in my head. "Where do you have in mind?" I wasn't from their pack, so I had zero idea what their territory was like. But they seemed a lot more sophisticated and orderly than Talon's. I just never took the time to notice more closely."You'
Naeris's POV "Aeron!" I yelled, running after him after he splashed ice water on my skirt. "It's fifteen degrees out here! It was supposed to be the target!! Not me!!"Aeron chuckled, moving swiftly and dodging my swipes before effortlessly maneuvering me into his grasp. I was breathless, huffing
Naeris's POV I felt my heart lurch forward. "What do you mean by they can't wake him? Would Nyxion just drop like that?" I whispered, my pulse picking up speed. Aeron had a horrified expression on his face, before it morphed into a hardened mask. He grabbed me by the arm. "Let's go."This time, I
