MasukChapter 4
Freya’s hand froze on the doorknob, and the other tightly held her lips to prevent a sob from escaping.
She could not believe that the man she had been with for five years was actually the one in that room.
‘No. This can’t be right. I must be mistaken. Nico loves me so much, and there is no way he would ever cheat on me. He… he would never say such things about me.’ Freya thought.
But the reality slapped her in the face faster than she imagined.
When her best friend introduced her to Nico, she fell in love with him at first sight, and the moment he asked her to be his girlfriend, she was so happy that she couldn’t even sleep for two days.
When he officially proposed, Freya thought that she was the luckiest woman on earth, and for the three years they had been officially married, not once did she ever suspect that Nico would be that kind of man.
He always came home on time and took her out on fun outings. He made loving him so easy that Freya thought they would spend their happily ever after together.
But now…
Freya wanted to slip away quietly, but something inside her snapped.
Should she just walk away and pretend as if nothing happened, or should she confront Nico and demand answers?
Freya contemplated between walking away and confronting Nico, and after what seemed like a battle of a lifetime, she pushed the door open and entered.
Her ten-inch heels clicked on the tiled floor, but the people in the room were too busy to notice.
One was between Nico’s legs, sucking on his member like her life depended on it, while the other was rubbing her a$$ in his face, and Nico’s tongue licked her rose.
Freya’s stomach twisted in disgust, and she felt like throwing up. Maybe entering the room was a bad idea.
But since she was already there, she was not going to let this scumbag go.
Freya kicked away the clothes scattered all over the floor as she clapped hard.
It was the sound of her clapping that brought the sinners back to their senses.
“Who is there? Who dares to ruin my fun?” Nico grumbled as he bit the woman’s clitoris, making her moan out in pain.
The woman pouted her lips and spoke in a seductive voice, “Baby, never do that again. It hurts.”
Nico slapped her ass, and it bounced on his hand, making him groan in pleasure.
“I wish that old hag’s ass was as soft and supple as yours. You really know how to make my blood boil.”
The woman laughed, but the moment she saw Freya, her expression changed, and she quickly got off Nico as she quickly tried to find something to cover her naked body.
“What happened, baby? We are just getting started.”
“Nico, you…” The woman stammered as she pointed at Freya.
“What happened?” Nico asked as he tried to move his body, but the person who was giving him a bj held him in place. She was not even bothered by the fact that someone had walked in on them.
“Don’t ruin my fun, Nico.” The woman grumbled as her head moved up and down with ease.
Freya could not take it anymore, so she spoke out. “Wow, so this is the business trip you spoke about?”
Nico was stunned, “Why does that sound like my wife’s voice? Darn it! I am almost there.”
“Nico, she is your wife.” The woman, who had been sitting on his face, spoke.
Nico was stunned, and he immediately yanked himself from the woman sucking him.
He turned around, and when he saw Freya standing in the room with a teary face, his face paled, and he immediately looked for something to cover himself with, but he could not find anything.
“You… you… you…”
That was the only thing that Nico could say.
“Me what? Nico, I can’t believe that you would do this to me. I was anxiously waiting for you at home, while you were whoring around?”
“Oh, baby, your secret is finally out. What are we going to do now? Is our week of fun finally going to end?” The woman who had been sucking him asked as she seductively licked her lips.
She crawled on top of Nico and left a deep kiss on his lips. She did not even mind the fact that Freya was in the room.
Freya was stunned after hearing the woman. So, Nico was never on a business trip? He had been in town the entire time, fucking around?
“Nico, care to explain this?”
Nico had already regained his composure. He jumped off the bed, butt naked, and stood in front of Freya, his member dangling between his legs.
Freya was so disgusted and embarrassed that she felt the world could just open up and swallow her whole.
She looked at Nico, and she could barely recognize the man she had been with for five years.
Nico used his thumb to wipe his lips and spoke to Freya, “What is there to explain, baby? I am just having a little fun here.”
The woman who had been sucking him hugged him from behind, and her hand roamed on his bare chest.
“Honey, aren’t we going to continue?”
Looking at Freya’s teary face, Nico felt uncomfortable, so he pushed the woman away.
He had been together with Freya for five years; even though he did not have any feelings for her, he felt responsible towards her.
And seeing her cry like that made his heart ache a little.
Just a little to make him feel an ounce of guilt.
“I am sorry, baby, I can explain.” He said as he tried to hold her, but Freya evaded his touch.
“Don’t you dare touch me with your filthy hands,” Freya spoke coldly as she wiped her tears.
“Nico Moreno, we are done!” She stormed out of the room after saying that. She could not stand to look at Nico even for another second. It made her sick.
Freya’s heart felt like it was being forced out of her chest. It was so painful that she had difficulty breathing.
…
“Why? Nico, why?” Freya mumbled as she downed another glass.
She waved at the waiter, “Another one, please.”
The waiter looked at her and frowned, “I think you have had too much to drink, lady.”
Freya became angry after hearing that, “What? Who are you to tell me if I have drunk too much or not? Just give the damn alcohol.”
“Well...”
The waiter was about to hand her another glass, but someone stopped him just in time, “No.”
Chapter 90Friday afternoons had a peculiar effect on the prosecutor's office. The frantic pace that usually defined the workweek softened ever so slightly as people hurried to wrap up pending files before the weekend. Phones rang less frequently, secretaries chatted a little longer by the coffee machine, and even the sternest prosecutors looked as though they could finally see the finish line.Inside the NorthStar conference room, however, nothing had changed.Case files still covered half the table.Maps still occupied the whiteboard. The same photographs stared back at them from the evidence wall.Jade dropped his pen onto the table with an exaggerated groan before dramatically leaning back in his chair."I have an important announcement."No one looked up.Freya continued typing.Luca turned another page in the shipping manifest.Gina highlighted a paragraph in one of the financial reports.Jade cleared his throat."Ahem."Still nothing. He slapped the table."I said, I have an i
Chapter 89The drive back from Blackridge Risk Consultants was unusually quiet.Rain clouds had gathered overhead once again, casting long shadows across the city streets as traffic crawled through the afternoon rush.Jade was the first to break the silence."So..."He looked at Freya from the rearview mirror."You've officially become the only person I know who can find clues in company photographs."Freya laughed softly."I wasn't looking for clues.""They just... stood out.""That's the strange part," Jade admitted. "Most people would've looked at the executives.""You looked at the background."Freya rested her elbow against the window."I don't really know why."Luca glanced at her for a brief moment before returning his attention to the road."You notice patterns."She smiled faintly."I guess.""No."His voice was calm but certain."You do.""It isn't luck."Gina sat beside Jade in the back seat, listening without saying a word. She turned her gaze toward the passing buildings
Chapter 88The next morning, the NorthStar task force gathered earlier than usual. The conference room lights had barely flickered on before Jade wheeled in a whiteboard covered with fresh printouts."I have good news," he announced as he dropped a thick folder onto the table.Freya looked up from her notebook."That smile worries me.""It should.""I finally found something the shell companies forgot to erase."Luca, who had just walked in carrying his customary black coffee, set the cup on the table before taking his seat."Let's hear it."Jade connected his laptop to the projector, and within seconds a spreadsheet filled the screen."Last night I stopped looking at the companies."He clicked to the next slide."I started looking at their insurance policies."Gina's eyebrows lifted with interest."Insurance?""Think about it," Jade replied. "A fake company can disappear overnight, but warehouses, vehicles, and cargo still need insurance. Somebody has to pay those premiums."Freya le
Chapter 87The barbecue lunch that Luca had promised never happened.Instead, Jade somehow convinced everyone to stop at a small diner a few blocks from the Attorney General's office, insisting they would "think better on full stomachs."The place wasn't fancy. It had mismatched chairs, checkered tablecloths, and the comforting aroma of grilled meat drifting in from the open kitchen."It's not exactly five-star dining," Jade admitted as they settled into a booth."But their burgers might change your life."Freya laughed."That's a bold claim.""I've made riskier ones."Luca glanced at the menu."You're paying if they're disappointing."Jade looked horrified."I suddenly regret recommending this place."The waitress approached with a bright smile."What can I get you?"Jade ordered without even opening the menu."The usual."Freya tilted her head."You come here often?""The owner knows my name.""That answers my question."Luca looked at Freya."What are you having?"She studied the m
Chapter 86The conference room was unusually quiet the following morning. No one had slept much. The progress briefing with the Attorney General's office was less than an hour away, and every member of the NorthStar task force was determined to walk in with something more substantial than theories.Freya stood before the evidence board, her notebook tucked beneath one arm as she carefully rearranged several photographs. She took a step back. Then another."No..."She murmured to herself before moving one of the shipping routes to the opposite side of the board.Luca looked up from the stack of financial reports he had been reviewing."You've changed that map three times."Freya tilted her head."I know.""You don't sound convinced.""I'm not."She walked closer to the board again, studying every photograph until her eyes settled on the image of the white delivery van."It still feels incomplete."Jade leaned back in his chair."You're beginning to sound like the boss."Freya looked ov
Chapter 85The first hour of working together passed with surprising ease.Four desks had been pushed together in the conference room, creating one large workstation where files, laptops, photographs, and coffee cups competed for space. The silence wasn't uncomfortable. It was the kind that naturally settled over people concentrating on the same problem.Every few minutes, someone would ask a question.Someone else would answer. Then the room would fall quiet again.Freya highlighted another transaction before sliding the ledger toward Gina."I can't make sense of these payments."Gina adjusted her glasses and studied the page."They aren't payments."Freya looked up."They're reimbursements."She pointed to a series of identical figures."Look at the intervals."Freya followed her finger.Every transfer occurred exactly twenty-eight days apart. Not twenty-seven.Not twenty-nine.Twenty-eight.Luca leaned over Gina's shoulder."A payroll cycle."Gina nodded."Except the recipients are
Chapter 16Freya slumped into the sofa, burying her head in the pillow as her shoulders shook. She felt like cursing at the whole world, but words failed her.Issa came over with a cup of hot coffee and gently rubbed her best friend's back."Babe, why are you letting that jerk get to you? I thought
Chapter 3Five years later. It had been five years since Freya woke up with no knowledge of who she really was. But it no longer bothered her. Even with all the chaos, she had found a family that truly loved her for who she was.Today was her third wedding anniversary with her husband, Nico Moreno.
Chapter 2Beep.Beep.Beep.The slow beeping of machines echoed in Freya’s ears. Her eyelids felt heavy as she forced them open.Bright light stabbed into her vision, making her instinctively close her eyes. After a while, she blinked several times before she could focus.White ceiling.White walls
Chapter 1Today was supposed to be the happiest day of Freya’s life. She was turning twenty-two, and her parents had just solved the biggest case of their entire career as secret federal agents. Tonight was meant to be a double celebration for the Rossi family. And the venue? Her brother’s motorcyc
