Chapter 1
Today was supposed to be the happiest day of Freya’s life.
She was turning twenty-two, and her parents had just solved the biggest case of their entire career as secret federal agents. Tonight was meant to be a double celebration for the Rossi family.
And the venue?
Her brother’s motorcycle club.
Her parents had warned her never to set foot in that place until she turned twenty-two. But Freya had never been the obedient type, especially not when her big brother spoiled her rotten.
She swung her leg over the Ducati Monster 821, which her brother had gifted her for her birthday.
The engine roared to life beneath her.
She could practically feel her parents staring from the porch behind her, probably wondering when their little princess had learned how to ride a motorcycle.
But that was a story for another day.
The moment she hit the road, every nerve in her body came alive.
Wind rushed past her as the engine growled beneath her seat, and for the first time in her life, she felt completely free.
She had loved bikes since she was a little girl. Owning one had always been her dream.
Now that the dream had finally come true, Freya could not contain her happiness.
She wanted to take a quick ride around town, but her phone rang before she could even make it halfway down the street.
It was a call from her brother.
She answered through her helmet.
“Firefly, where are you?”
Freya groaned.
Her brother called her Firefly. According to him, it was because she had always been full of energy and running everywhere like a tiny ball of chaos.
And yes, she absolutely hated that name.
She sped down the road as she shouted into the phone.
“Bro, what did we agree on? You were supposed to stop calling me that once I turned twenty-two!”
His laughter burst through the speaker.
“Come on, Firefly. You know that name suits you.”
Freya opened her mouth to argue, but then she heard someone call her brother’s name in the background.
Her stomach flipped instantly.
She knew that voice.
It belonged to her brother’s VP.
The man who had been haunting her thoughts for far longer than she cared to admit.
He was handsome in a way that should probably be illegal, with tattoos covering his arms and a presence that made every woman in the room stare.
And she was no exception.
And since today was her birthday… Maybe tonight would finally be the night she stopped pretending she wasn’t attracted to him.
Her brother’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
“Be careful on the road,” Roy said. “I’ll see you at the club.”
…
Freya arrived before her parents.
That wasn’t surprising.
She had ridden the Ducati Monster 821, after all.
The moment she stepped into the club, she pulled off her gloves and glanced around.
The place looked… different.
It was sparkling clean and more organized than usual.
Her brother had clearly taken the time to scrub away the usual smell of alcohol and engine oil that reeked in this place.
Roy spotted her the moment she walked in.
He lifted his hand and waved.
Freya sauntered over to him.
“I’m impressed,” she said, glancing around the room.
Roy placed a hand over his chest dramatically, as if she had just insulted him.
“Firefly, do you really think so little of your big brother?”
Freya opened her mouth to respond, but then she noticed the man standing beside Roy.
Her heart did a complete somersault in her chest.
Great.
Just… great.
Did Roy really have to call her Firefly in front of his ridiculously hot VP?
She could feel heat creeping up her neck.
“Roy,” she said quickly, clearing her throat, “Mom and Dad will be here soon. I’m going to change.”
…
Her parents had wanted to make her the center of attention that night, but Freya had declined.
They were retiring after closing this case, and she wanted the celebration to be about them.
Unfortunately, the night didn’t go the way any of them expected.
The knife had just sunk into her birthday cake when the first gunshot shattered the air.
The music stopped, screams erupted, and everything became chaotic in an instant.
Panic spread through the room as people began running in every direction.
Then the club doors burst open.
Her brother’s VP stumbled inside, his hand covered in blood, and his face pale.
Roy and Freya had been standing side by side, ready to cut the cake together, so she heard every word he whispered.
“Prez,” he said, breathless. “We’re under attack.”
Roy’s face was instantly drained of color.
There were powerful people in the room tonight, government officials, businessmen, and people with connections in places no one talked about.
If this were an attack…
Everything could fall apart.
“Roy, what’s going on?” Her father stepped forward, a deep frown on his face.
Roy turned to him, and for the first time in her life, Freya saw fear in her brother’s eyes.
“There’s a secret exit behind the bar,” Roy said quietly. “Take the guests and leave. Now.”
Then he turned to her.
His hands gripped her shoulders tightly.
“Firefly,” he said, his voice shaking, “I want you to go with Mom and Dad. Whatever happens… don’t look back.”
Her heart started pounding hard in her chest.
“Roy,” she whispered, “what the fuck is going on?”
A cold knot twisted in her stomach.
The words his VP had whispered replayed in her mind.
Before she could grasp them, the second wave of gunshots exploded outside the club, shattering the windows to nothingness.
People screamed.
Someone knocked into her as the crowd surged toward the exit.
“Move! Move!” someone yelled.
Roy shoved her toward their parents.
“Go! Now!”
Her mother grabbed her hand, pulling her toward the back of the club where the hidden door was.
But before they could reach it, the main doors burst open.
Men stormed inside.
Black clothes. Masks. Guns.
Her father stepped in front of them instantly.
“Stay behind me,” he said.
Everything happened too fast after that. Too fast for her mind to comprehend.
Another gunshot, and she heard her mother scream.
Suddenly, the smell of gasoline filled the air, and smoke erupted.
Someone tackled her to the ground as bullets tore through the room.
Freya crawled toward Roy, her ears ringing.
“Roy!” she shouted.
But then she saw something that made her blood run cold.
One of the attackers had already reached her parents.
Her father tried to fight him.
But he didn’t stand a chance against the armed mercenary.
The gun was fired, and her mother collapsed beside her, a deep hole in her forehead, her eyes wide open.
“No!” Freya screamed.
She tried to run to them, but strong hands grabbed her from behind.
Another shot rang out.
Pain exploded in her head as something struck her.
Her vision blurred.
And the last thing she remembered before darkness swallowed her…
…was Roy shouting her name.
“Firefly!”
And then everything went completely blank.
Chapter 42The moment the motorcycles crossed Raven Bridge, Luca and Kael dropped their machines into the turnaround section without losing momentum. It was a maneuver that demanded absolute precision. At the speed they were traveling, even the slightest mistake could send either of them skidding across the road or crashing through the guardrails into the dark river below.Kael leaned aggressively into the turn, his tires protesting as they fought for grip against the road. For a brief moment, confidence surged through him. The gap between him and Luca wasn't huge, but it was there. All he had to do was protect that lead until the finish line. That was all.But the confidence he had carried throughout the race began to crumble the moment he exited the turn and glanced into his mirrors.Luca was there, closer than ever. The black motorcycle seemed glued to the road as it accelerated out of the corner with frightening efficiency. Kael's grip tightened around the handlebars as disbelie
Chapter 41The moment the motorcycles disappeared into the darkness, the crowd erupted into chaos.Cheers, whistles, and shouted wagers filled the night air as members from both clubs rushed toward their bikes. Some planned to follow the race route from a distance while others immediately pulled out their phones to wait for updates from the checkpoints stationed along the highway.Freya remained rooted to the spot. Her eyes stayed fixed on the empty road long after Luca and Kael had vanished from sight, the thunderous roar of their engines still echoing in her ears. Everything had happened so fast that her mind struggled to catch up.Only a few hours ago, Luca had been teasing her in the kitchen and calling her his queen. Now she just discovered that the man she was slowly falling for was also the president of one of the most feared motorcycle clubs in the city. She had never really paid much attention to such things over the past five years, but now...The realization left her feelin
Chapter 40The racing highway wasn't far from where they were, and in a few minutes, everyone had already gathered.Freya clenched her fists as she watched Luca make his way toward the motorcycle waiting at the starting line. The crowd parted almost instinctively to let him pass. Some members of the Black Forge MC lowered their heads in respect, while others stepped aside with an almost reverent caution, as though standing too close to him might somehow place them in the path of something dangerous. Watching their reactions, Freya finally understood just how much influence Luca wielded in this world. He wasn't simply another racer preparing for a challenge. He was the president of the Black Forge MC.The man everyone here followed without question. He commanded respect without even lifting his finger. It was like he was born to be king.Luca swung one leg over the sleek black motorcycle and settled into the seat with practiced ease. Freya's eyes were glued on him as she took in ever
Chapter 39"What do you want, Kael?" Luca asked, shifting his attention back to the man he couldn't wait to burst his skull."You have grown some extra balls to dare come to my turf and cause trouble." His voice dripped with coldness, and the people around him could feel the pressure.Freya looked at Luca's back that was blocking her view, and her heart beat wildly. The large patch on his leather jacket. That weird smell of gasoline and gunpowder she felt the first time they met.It now all made sense.Earlier, she had joked that Luca looked like a mafia don. Who would have thought that her words would come true so soon?Although he wasn't technically a mafia boss, he still was some kind of boss.It made her fearful and excited at the same time, and the mixed feelings left her in a puzzle.Kael laughed after hearing Luca. He seemed to be the only one who wasn't fazed by Luca's overwhelming aura."I had to force you out of your comfort zone, and of course, it wasn't for nothing.""What
Chapter 38Kael jumped off his bike and removed his black helmet. The people behind him also stopped and removed their helmets one by one.Kael whistled and threw his key in the air before catching it with a swift move. His gaze moved towards Luca, and when he realized who it was, he burst into fits of manic laughter. He walked over and said, "Looks like today is my lucky day."Luca's gaze turned even colder. Freya looked at him with a worried gaze. These people did not seem like good guys. What do they want with Luca?Kael moved forward like he was walking on his turf. His gaze lingered on Luca for only a few seconds before he turned to Freya. He whistled again as his eyes shone with playful light."What a hottie." He commented.Luca's arm around Freya tightened, and his aura became lethal. How dare this man covet his little troublemaker? Does he have a death wish?"Kael, it has been a while."Luca's voice was cold, as if it had emerged from the depths of hell itself.Kael smirked.
Chapter 37Luca kissed Freya passionately, but he did not do anything else. No matter how much he craved her, he knew that Freya's body needed time to recover after what they did yesterday.Freya kissed him back, and even though she wanted him, she knew the limit her body could handle, so she allowed herself to melt in the kiss and enjoy the moment.Luca bit her on the lips all of a sudden, making Freya cry in pain. She looked at him with an accusatory gaze as if she did not deserve that.Luca chuckled and licked the spot he had just bitten. "Didn't anyone tell you that poking a sleeping lion is very dangerous?"Freya looked at him with a clueless gaze, "What do you mean?""Nothing. Go and freshen up. I will prepare you some lunch. I will take you somewhere in the evening."Freya looked at him and said, "I can help you in the kitchen. I am not as good as you are when it comes to cooking, but I am definitely a good chef."She had been doing chef duties for the last five years in her p
Chapter 28Freya nodded. She had been meaning to ask if there were other employees in the office; it was a good thing Luca brought it up."Sure, I would love to meet them."He kissed her on the forehead, held her hand, and led her out of the office. He took her to an elevator, that Freya guessed wa
Chapter 26"Freya, wake up. You will be late for work on your first day." Issa called out as she knocked on Freya's door."Be out in a minute," Freya shouted in a groggy voice.Issa was about to head to the kitchen when she heard the sound of an engine roaring. She rushed to the window, and when sh
Chapter 25After dinner, Luca took Freya and Issa home.Freya hadn’t said a word, and she frowned throughout the journey back to Issa’s house. When they arrived, she wanted to leave the car, but Luca stopped her.He spoke to his driver instead, "Roy, you can leave now. I will drive myself back."Ro
Chapter 24“How can I not drive you crazy when you keep on seducing me?” Freya asked as she seductively licked her lips.Luca chuckled, “Sharp-tongued, huh?”He leaned over and whispered, “Did I tell you that you look very beautiful?”Freya drew imaginary circles on his chest as she acted coy, “No,
