ELIRA POV

"Magnus taught you to hunt. He stood at your father's funeral. Kian, are you certain."

I watched the words land on him like physical blows, each one peeling back another layer of a betrayal I could see him refusing to believe even as the evidence stacked up in front of him.

"I'm certain," Silas said grimly. "He's the one who forged my archive access code, not Priya, not Marisol. I found the proof three hours ago and came straight here rather than risk a call he might intercept."

"Why,

ELIRA POV"The true heir already exists, and it was never her. Kian, that's not a phrase a six year old invents on his own."I paced the length of Marcus's recovery room, my son's words from that morning still echoing through my mind, unable to shake the certainty that this had been more than an ordinary nightmare."Rhys has always been perceptive," Kian said carefully, watching me from the chair beside Marcus's bed. "But this feels different. Deliberate."Marcus, propped against his pillows, listened with an expression that had gone carefully neutral, the particular stillness of a man working hard to control his own reaction."Say the phrase again," he said quietly. "Exactly as your son told it to you."I repeated it slowly, watching Marcus's face for any flicker of reaction, and found more than I expected. Something old, guarded, and clearly unwelcome moved behind his eyes."You know what this means," I said. "Don't you."Marcus was quiet for a long moment, and when he finally spoke

KIAN POV"One word. No demands, no threats spelled out, nothing we can act on directly. Just a promise that this isn't finished."I turned the embroidered fabric over in my hands, studying the careful stitching for any additional clue it might hold, finding nothing beyond the single ominous word."That's the point," Elira said, arms crossed against the morning chill. "She wants us anxious, waiting, unable to prepare for something specific because we don't know what's actually coming."Callum arrived moments later, exhaustion etched into his features but his expression sharp with new information. "I have something on Ren. A traffic camera three miles from the estate caught a vehicle matching the one from last night's footage, timestamped an hour after the attack ended.""Where was it headed," I asked."North," Callum said. "Toward the old Ironfang holdings Renar mentioned weeks ago. I pulled satellite imagery of the region overnight. There's activity at a compound near the border, larg

ELIRA POV"I know it's not the wedding either of us planned. I know the flowers are gone and half the hall is currently missing a wall."Kian said it quietly, standing before me in the small, quiet chapel Silas had found still intact on the estate's far side, both of us bruised, exhausted, wearing torn remnants of what had once been formal wedding clothes."I don't care about flowers," I said, my voice thick with everything the night had cost and everything it had somehow still preserved. "I care that we're both still standing here to finish this."The twins sat in the front row beside Priya, Wren finally asleep against her shoulder, Rhys fighting exhaustion with fierce determination, unwilling to miss a single moment of what remained of the ceremony. Selene stood nearby, Dmitri beside her, Silas keeping careful watch near the door despite the exhaustion visible in every line of his body. The elder who'd been meant to officiate a full formal ceremony instead spoke a shortened, simpler

KIAN POV"Marcus is stable, but it was close. Silver again, aimed with the same precision that nearly killed you weeks ago."The healer delivered the update wearily, having spent the last several hours moving between wounded across two separate medical tents, and I absorbed the news with the particular numbness that came from having simply run out of capacity for more fear tonight."And Ren," I asked, though some cold certainty already told me the answer wouldn't be good."Nothing," Silas said grimly, entering the tent with a tablet full of grainy security footage. "We found this, though. Timestamped right before the lights went out."The footage showed Ren moving through a side corridor, alone, and then a figure emerging from the shadows to intercept her, too brief and too dark to identify clearly. The two exchanged words I couldn't make out, and then Ren followed the figure willingly through a service door, no visible coercion in her posture at all."She went with them voluntarily,"

ELIRA POV"I can't see her. Kian, I can't see her in this dark."The heat beneath my skin flared brighter in response to the fear, an instinct I didn't fully understand yet but trusted anyway, and the glow rising from my own hands cast enough light to cut through the smoke immediately around us."There," Kian said, pointing toward a shape moving low and fast near the shattered windows, Isolde's silhouette unmistakable even in the chaos.I moved toward her without hesitation, every ounce of fear from the last month, the last four years, the last eighteen years, finally condensing into something I could use instead of something that used me.Isolde turned to face me as I approached, and for the first time since the warehouse, I saw genuine uncertainty behind her composure."You've grown into it faster than I expected," she said, eyeing the light still radiating from my skin. "Your mother never fully claimed her power. She was too frightened of what it made her.""I'm not my mother," I s

KIAN POV"Wren!"Elira's scream cut through the darkness, raw with a terror I felt mirrored in my own chest, and I moved on pure instinct, tracking sound and scent through the chaos toward the dressing room where Priya had taken the twins for safety.Emergency lighting flickered on along the hall's edges, dim red emergency strips barely cutting through the smoke, enough to reveal shapes moving with purpose through the fleeing crowd. Not guests. Not Silas's people. Isolde's soldiers, moving in a coordinated sweep toward the same corridor I was racing down.I reached the dressing room door half a second before two of them did, and the fight that followed was fast, brutal, and entirely without mercy on either side. I put the first man down with a broken arm and a knee to the ribs. The second nearly got a blade past my guard before Silas arrived at my back, taking him down from behind with the kind of economy only decades of pack combat could teach."Priya!" I shouted through the splinter
