CHAPTER FOUR

last update Last Updated: 2024-12-07 19:44:42

~DIMITRI~

As I massaged my temples, I couldn't help but recount what had happened during the past few years. I had finally had enough and needed anything that could take my kind off the tragedy.

“Alpha…” My Beta, Chase began but when he caught the sight of my glare from the front view mirror, he gulped and cleared his throat.

“I mean Mr Sanchez. Are you sure this is wise? You're their Alpha, they would need you” He tried to convince me that running away wasn't the best choice but I had already made up my mind.

“They would need you too and here you are following me around” I retorted and he scoffed.

“Someone has to keep an eye on you and admit it, you love that I'm here with you” He said and I rolled my eyes but before I could say something, my eyes caught sight of something…. A body laying down at the side of the road.

“What in the world…” Chase began, having seen the body as well.

“Ignore it” I muttered as I turned away and he turned to stare at me with wide eyes.

“But Alpha, we can't…”

“It's Mr Sanchez, Chase. I won't remind you again” I growled and he pursed his lips.

“I'm sorry but we can't just leave that body here. There's no civilization here and it's rare for anyone to drive down this road” He stated and I raised an eyebrow at him.

“We shouldn't get involved, Chase…”

“Let’s just at least get it to a more crowded place. That's the humane thing to do” He explained and I scoffed.

“Do whatever you want to do” I muttered as I closed my eyes and immediately, the Car screeched to a stop.

Chase immediately jumped out of the car and I opened my eyes and watched as he walked 0ver to the body and carried it in his arms.

It was a woman, that part was obvious. Her clothes were torn and covered in blood. Her feet were bruised and the cuts On her skin were sustained due to the fall I assumed.

Chase opened the back Seat door and stared at me with wide eyes.

“You may want to see this…” He trailed off as he glanced down at her as he bent her down slightly just enough that I could See her face and immediately, my breath hitched.

She was almost identical to my dead wife. But… but how was that possible?

“She looks like her, doesn't she? It's a miracle that she's still alive but it won't be long before…” Before he could complete his sentence, I took her out of his arms and pulled her into my embrace.

I stared down at her with wide eyes as I caressed her face. How… How could she look like her?

“Alpha…” He trailed off as I checked her pulse. My hands were shaking, I couldn't let her die.

Not again.

“No matter what, she won't be able to survive. I don't even know how she's still alive after falling from such a high cliff but before we get to a hospital…” He trailed off again but I knew he was insinuating.

“I can't let her die. If I mark her and feed her my blood, that's sure to awaken Her wolf and hasten her healing Abilities” I explained to him and he gasped.

“Alpha, you cannot forcefully mark her. That's…”

“Don't fucking call me Alpha! I'm no one's Alpha! So you suppose I let her die instead? I can't let that happen, Chase” I growled angrily at him then pushed her hair out the Way, exposing her neck.

I might regret This later. Heck, I was going to regret it but at this moment, saving her was my priority.

I couldn't let her die.

I grazed her already marked neck with my fangs before biting down and I heard her whimper slightly then slowly opened her eyes and immediately our eyes connected, my breath hitched.

She furrowed her eyebrows then her eyes closed and her body went limp again.

“This isn't going to end well” Chase muttered and maybe he was right, maybe I would regret this later on but right now, I never wanted anything more than to save her.

I pulled back, pulled up my glove a little bit then bit my wrist before placing it against her lips. Almost immediately, the colour slowly returned to her face and I heaved a sigh of relief before hugging her body close to mine.

“Thank Goddess” I muttered all over again. I saved her.

I turned to Chase with urgency in my eyes.

“Get us to the hospital immediately”

~TWO MONTHS~

She was finally awake! When the doctors called me and told me the woman I had brought in was finally awake, I had immediately dropped everything and drove towards the hospital.

I had lost all hope. In fact, the Doctor had advised us not to hold on to hope because her bones had been severely broken and her brain wasn't active but she was awake and it surprised me at how happy I was even though she was practically a stranger.

Chase tried his best to remind me that she wasn't my wife, she was a stranger but how could she look exactly like her? It was uncanny and it was making me feel all kinds of emotions.

Almost like my wife had been reborn.

“How is she?” Chase asked as soon as we saw the doctor outside her room door. The doctor let out a sigh before shaking his head.

“I'm sorry but she doesn't remember anything. Not even her name” He revealed to us and my eyes widened.

“That's bad. How are we going to know what happened to her and who she is?” Chase muttered and I frowned.

“There's a possibility that her memories may return but it's not a high one. She took a hard blow to the head when she fell but for now, she's totally fine and that's all thanks to you, Mr Sanchez. Her blood in her system really helped her healing abilities” He praised with a smile and I just nodded.

After the doctor excused himself, Chase turned to me.

“Should we go in?” He questioned and I pursed my lips.

“It's better if I keep my distance” I told him and he stared at me for a while then sighed before nodding.

“Suit yourself then, I'll go in” He uttered then pushed the door open and in that brief Second, I caught sight of her sitting on the bed and goddess was she beautiful.

As if feeling her stare, she turned to me and our eyes connected and I immediately turned away. Fuck it, I needed to keep my distance.

She wasn't your wife Dimitri, get that into your head.

I let out a sigh and was about to walk away when I felt a soft smaller hand grab onto mine.

I turned around and my eyes widened when I saw her standing behind me while she stared up at me with wide blue eyes.

Unlike my wife's eyes which were Hazel, hers were dark blue.

“You were the one who saved me, weren't you?” She questioned and I was too stunned to reply.

When I didn't say anything, she smiled and my heart literally stopped. Memories of my wife flashed through my head and at that moment, I wanted nothing more than to wrap my arms around her and smother her with kisses.

She wasn't my wife.

I needed to remember that she was just a stranger and meant nothing to me.

“Well thank you, Sir. You're my Knight In shining armour” She stated with a smile and I glanced at Chase and we exchanged a look.

He was fucking right, this wasn't going to end well…

~SCARLETT~ The tension at work changes shape. It’s no longer whispered comments or sidelong looks. It becomes deliberate, sharper, more pointed, meant to remind me exactly where I stand.Or where they think I stand.“Careful,” Maya says as she passes me a tray of pastries, her smile thin. “Wouldn’t want to mess up. Not when so many important people are watching.”I grip the tray tighter than necessary. “I’ve got it.”She tilts her head. “Of course you do.”Louis opens his mouth to say something, but I shake my head subtly. I don’t want a scene. I just want to survive the day.Still, the weight of being watched presses into me. Not just by my coworkers but by the city, by rumors, by expectations I never agreed to carry. And by two men who refuse to leave my life in very different ways.Alexander picks me up after work.I didn’t ask him to.But I didn’t say no either. His car is parked across the street, polished and discreet. He steps out when he sees me, opening the passenger door li

~ALEXANDER~ I’ve learned that love doesn’t always look like urgency.Sometimes, it looks like waiting without complaint. That’s what I remind myself as I stand outside Scarlett’s building, hands tucked into the pockets of my coat, the night air sharp against my skin. I don’t look up at her window. I don’t want to know if she’s watching.I didn’t come to see her.Not really.I came to remind myself that she exists outside my memory.Alive. Breathing. Choosing. And that choice may never be me.Brian’s voice still rings in my ears from earlier that day. You’re losing control of the pack.He hadn’t shouted. Brian never does. Disappointment carries more weight than anger when it comes from your beta.I’d looked at him then and said, “I’m not losing control. I’m prioritizing.”He’d stared at me like I’d lost my mind.Maybe I have. The boardroom was full this morning. Advisors.Lawyers. People who speak in numbers and market shares like lives don’t exist beneath them. They talked about expa

~DIMITRI~ I stopped three floors below her apartment.Every time. The elevator doors slide shut behind me with a muted sound, sealing me into a hallway that smells faintly of detergent and old paint. The lights hum softly overhead. My reflection stares back at me from the darkened window at the far end, composed, controlled, and dangerously close to shattering. Her floor is above me.I could be there in seconds. One ride. One knock. One moment of weakness. But I don’t move.Distance is a discipline. That’s what I tell myself as I lean back against the wall and close my eyes. Discipline keeps people alive. Discipline keeps monsters contained. Discipline is the difference between love and destruction.Scarlett asked me to leave her alone. So I did.Not because I don’t care but because I care too much.My phone buzzes in my pocket.Chase.I already know what he’s going to say.“You’re here again,” his voice says when I answer.“Yes.”“And you still won’t knock.”“No.”A sigh. “She wen

~SCARLETT~ If anyone had asked me what I expected coffee with Alexander to feel like, I would have said awkward. Or tense. Or unbearable.I wouldn’t have said quietly normal. That realization unsettled me more than I wanted to admit. We sat across from each other in a small café tucked between a bookstore and a florist, the kind of place people go when they want to be left alone with their thoughts. The windows are fogged slightly from the warmth inside, and soft music hums in the background, something instrumental and unobtrusive.Alexander chose the place, but he waited for me to approve it before we came in. He even asked where I wanted to sit, like proximity was something I should get to decide. That alone tells me he’s trying. He doesn’t reach for my hand. Doesn’t crowd the table. Doesn’t stare like he’s afraid I’ll disappear if he blinks. Instead, he wraps his fingers around his mug and looks down at it for a long moment, like he’s grounding himself.I watch him over the rim o

~DIMITRI~ Distance is not the absence of care. It’s a discipline. That’s what I tell myself as I stand across the street from the café, hands in my coat pockets, gaze fixed anywhere but the door.Scarlett asked me to step back.So I did.Not halfway. Not selectively. Completely.I don’t approach.I don’t call.I don’t make myself visible unless circumstances demand it.And it is killing me.Chase stands beside me, arms folded, watching the steady stream of people pass by. “You could at least look at her.”“I am,” I reply.“Not like that.”I glance at him briefly, then return my focus to the reflection in the glass across the street. Scarlett moves behind the counter, braid loose today, hands busy. She laughs at something Louis says, a small sound that twists something deep in my chest. She looks tired. She looks alive. She looks like someone who deserves a life untouched by the shadow of my past.“You’re not doing what she asked,” Chase says quietly.I frown. “I am.”“She asked you

  • Claimed by two Alphas   CHAPTER FIFTY THREE

~SCARLETT ~By the third day, I understood something important.People don’t need proof to decide who you are. They just need a story they like better than the truth.I’m restocking pastries when Maya’s voice drifts over from the other end of the counter, deliberately loud.“Must be nice,” she says. “Some of us actually had to work to get hired.”I pretend not to hear her. My fingers tremble slightly as I arrange the trays, but I keep my head down.I worked for this.I showed up early. I stayed late. I learned fast. I didn’t ask for help. I didn’t mention names. I didn’t even want anyone knowing I was connected to Dimitri or Alexander. And yet, here I am.The girl with connections. The girl who didn’t earn it.The girl people whisper about when they think she can’t hear.Louis catches my eye from near the register. His expression is tight, apologetic. “Ignore her” He mouthed.I nod.Ignoring things has become a skill I didn’t ask to develop.By the time my break comes, my chest feels
