Scarlett's POV

I swallowed down hard as we waited for the guards to pass through. I could feel Thane's wood pressing into my body already, and I couldn't blame him. We stood too close, and with our history, I could imagine.

Thane didn't make the first move out when we stopped hearing the movement of the guards. I had to force my way out, and he gently followed after.

“Sorry about that.” He chuckled weirdly. I looked at everything but him.

“Yeah.” I responded with the same weird chuckle.

“So, do you care to tell me what's going on?” Thane asked, looking sad and in deep need for answers.

“How about we go answer for answer?” I asked, and he nodded.

“That works for me.”

“So, how did this happen with the King?” I asked.

“We were given an assignment, and I had the top score.” Thane sighed, looking straight at me. “Then, he started talking about making me his son, and boom, here we are.”

“Damn, that's crazy.” I sighed.

“Where are you headed?”

“To see Michelle, but I don't know where
