Being the first time that I'd be called back home from the academy, it was pretty suspicious and scary, but I was managing to keep a cool and calm head. Michelle, my best friend, had assured me that it was probably just to give me a gift, or deliver a great deal of good news to me in person. “Why go through all that stress of signing paper works, and writing letters, mails and a billion other processes when they can just give me the gift, or just come over and tell me what news it is?” I had asked her. “Don't overthink it baby.” She said, pulling me close to herself. “It's just a meeting, and you never can tell what the outcome will be.” Now, here I am, sitting on the huge dining table, fiddling with the food they had made. It was even more suspicious that they had made my favorite food. The cornbread was untouched, and so was the soup. Even when death stares at my face, I'd eat buffalo wings, so that was the only part of my favorites I had eaten that night. “How's the academy, baby?” Arya Kraven, my mother asked. “Mom, you never ask me about anything? Just tell me what's going on.” I said, taking a deep breath. I had always seen my mother as being out of touch with her emotions unless Matthew was having a cute moment with her. She literally became a ghost after my father died, and that light she once had only comes out when Matthew is with her. Any other time, she's just nonchalant. “Okay.” Matthew said, getting all of my attention. “Baby, I just need you to know that we thought about this well, and this is the best decision, for the sake of everyone.” Arya said. “Okay? I'm listening.” I said, nodding my head gently. “Have you heard of Timber North? The king of the North walls?” Matthew asked. “Yeah? The old and ugly king?” I responded with a shrug, trying not to guess his next words, because they'd be as terrible as I could guess, and I wasn't ready to be terribly heartbroken yet. “Well, he's not that old and ugly, and he's pretty calm and rich.” Matthew said as if he was trying to convince me of something I couldn't agree with. “Where's this conversation headed to?” I asked, barely breathing now. It was all headed to the exact place I could tell that it was headed to. “You are getting married to him.” Matthew said, and my heart dropped to my stomach. I felt like screaming, but I was way too silent. I felt like throwing plates and overturning the table, but I just sat there, calmly and breathlessly, listening to him repeat the same sentence over and over again. I could see his mouth moving like he was trying to convince me, but my head wasn't in the right space. “Why the fuck am I getting married to him?” I asked. “I'm not getting married to that man!” “I don't need to have a reason to betroth you to someone, and you will marry whoever I say you will marry!” Matthew snapped at me. “Don't make decisions for me like you're my fucking father!” I snapped at him. “You're right, I'm not your father, but I sure will make decisions that will keep the future of this family.” Matthew shot back at me. “Why would you force me to marry someone and I don't even know why?” I shouted at him. “Soon enough, you'll grow wiser, and you'll understand why we did what we did.” Matthew said. “And you'll be grateful that we did what we did.” “Please.” I begged, seeing no other way out of the horrible situation I was in. “Begging won't do you any good, Scarlett.” Matthew said with a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “This is why you'll never be my father!” I growled, and he started speaking also. “You're horrible, evil and you'll never be able to lace the shoes of that man!” “Scarlett quiet!” Arya snapped at me, making me shake and keep quiet immediately. “You will marry Timber, and I'll have no more discussions on this subject matter.” She said with a final tone. “But mom…” “You will do what I've said, and I'll not listen to you speak on it anymore!” She snapped in a very gentle manner. “I hate you so much!” I screamed. She just looked at me with a side eye glance and shrugged like it didn't matter to her. I stood up from the chair, and I ran to the room, trying hard to fight my tears. I could not stop crying because they had placed a difficult situation on me, and I couldn't even tell why? No one explained why they wanted me to marry not just an old and ugly man, but also a wicked one. I picked up my phone, and I dialed Michelle's number, still silently sobbing. “Hello ooh, my latest car owner!” She giggled until she heard another sob. “What the fuck is wrong?” “Michelle.” I cried since words eluded me. “Scarlett, just tell me whatever the fuck is wrong, and I'll fix it, I promise.” Michelle said, and I tried to calm myself down. “They're forcing me to get married.” I said, and that was where my tearless moment could take me, before I began sobbing again. “What?! To whom?” She asked, and I took another deep breath. “Timber North,Michelle, Timber fucking North.” I cried. “What the fuck?” Michelle growled. I could hear the growl of her wolf. It also overshadowed her voice whenever she was angry. “I don't know what to do. I just can't do this. I can't marry him.” I cried, gripping my bed tightly. “Scarlett, I just need you to do one thing.” Michelle said. “You wouldn't have to marry that man.” “What?! How?” “Just find a way to get back to school tonight. And I promise that I'll get you somewhere safe.” Michelle said, and I sniffled. I walked to my window, and I took a quick survey of what could be called a castle that I lived in, and I saw no escape route. I still thought of several ways out, but nothing struck me. Nothing came to mind. The whole space was airtight, and escaping would mean having to face several guards. “Are you still there?” Michelle asked. “I'm looking for a way out.” I muttered. “Scarlett, just get your ass here, and trust me to do the rest.” Michelle said, and I was absolutely convinced. “Okay, you'll see me soon.” I guess it's time for me to be the rebellious audacious girl I've never been.Thane's POV We spent three full days on the road. Thankfully, I was in a separate car from Jane and Joe all through the ride. I only saw them when it was time to eat or do anything else. I had been locked up in a room for goodness knows how long. I lost track of time because it was always dark. I had been starved of food, but I was sure it wasn't long because I wasn't feeling close to death yet. I was also tied to a chair, and every locomotive activity I could have performed to remain sane was gone. I could only close my eyes and think of freedom, and how I'd cherish it better. I'd see Scarlett every single time I close my eyes, and a smile would appear on my face. The door opened, and I jolted, but my motion was negligible. The corridors of the place she walked from were always dark, so I still couldn't tell whether it was night or day. I was going insane. “How are you?” Jane asked, switching on a light. I shut my eyes immediately, trying to acclimatize to the light that had bee
Franklin's POV I surged back to consciousness to see Jessica towering over me. I totally remember her from my childhood. We were practically inseparable, and her company was the best. At first, I could barely see, so I was forced to stare at her face until my eyes would stop rolling. Her eyebrows were full, and she still had the usual tenderness her eyes possessed. There was a wet handkerchief in her hands that she used on my face, which could only mean that I was running a fever.“You're awake.” She said softly, massaging my head easily. “You should still stay on your back for a while.” I groaned, trying to stand stubbornly, but my body wasn't having it. I was still grounded, moaning and groaning. “How long have I been here?” I asked as she continued what she was doing. “About three hours. Your body has been burning up ever since.” She responded. “The Queen is worried, and she insisted on getting help. Supernatural help.” “Why? I just fainted.” I asked.“And you burnt up the wh
Scarlett's POV Thane barely said a word for the rest of the time we spent together, and now I was watching them drive off with everyone else in the pack. Something was definitely wrong with the way he drew back after Jane walked in. I could only hope that he was only trying to be funny when he spoke about actual torture. “Such a good, well accomplished boy.” Arya said , shortly followed with a sigh. I gave her the side eye and paid her no attention any longer. I walked in immediately they were out of sight. I made for my room immediately, but I was stopped by Matthew's horrendous voice. “Scarlett, when do you intend to leave for the Academy?” He asked. “Or would you prefer to wait it out with us at home?”I scoffed, hissing silently. “I'll leave tomorrow.”“Don't get any of those stupid ideas. You will get to the Academy, and when the time is right, you will go to the South!” Arya growled. “You need not shout, you're getting too veiny for a lady.” I said, leaving the living room
Thane's POV I had just gotten back from the errand I was sent, and the aura I felt just walking in from the gates was so strong and sad. The house was barely ever happy unless the wolves were doing something to have fun, but this one was particularly sad. I walked in, and headed straight for my mother's room. Surprisingly, she had a smile on, which was very random. “You're back.” She said, taking the candle from me. I didn't bother asking what she wanted to use it for, because what use would it be?“Pack your bags. We're leaving today.” Joe said like I hadn't had enough bad news. My stomach did the grumbling for me. I have to go through immense torture at home and still be far away from Scarlett. “Why are we leaving today?” The question slipped out of my mouth.Joe looked taken aback, but he still replied. “The pack house is ready.” He said, looking at me with a hardened face. “Isn't it?”“No, it's not.” Jane responded, and I almost felt relieved until she spoke again. “They said
Franklin's POV I arrived at the throne room with Paenyrah by my side. She seemed particularly happy about how things were going. She didn't try to hide the huge smile on her face either.“What's making you so happy?” I asked as we stood outside, waiting for our presence to be announced. “The fact that you're back, and I don't have any of this royal burden on me. I don't want to lead even if you think I can. I just want to support you.” Paenyrah said, and I nodded. “They have an ongoing meeting, crown Prince.” Itihaad, the chief omega said.“Then, that's the best time to show up.” I said with a smirk, walking past him. He knew better than to try stopping me. The doors opened of its own volition . I walked in with Paenyrah behind me, and everyone in the court room, elders and Chiefs, turned to look at me. I was satisfied by the look of anger on Jon's face. “And why have you chosen to disrupt such an important meeting?” Jon asked from his throne. “I have a right to be here, and I a
Franklin's POV I wasn't sure how long I had been in my room all alone, should definitely just be a couple of hours, and all I felt was pain. My chest reconfigured in ways that hurt more than I could imagine. My heart broke every time I remembered, and not once did I ever forget those words. “I don't love you, Franklin.” Those words stuck to me more than the outer bark to a tree. It gave me nightmares and made sleeping very difficult. I had thought I'd do the world with her. Fuck, if she wanted me to rule, I'd have done everything to get the throne, just to keep her! I'd have done anything and everything for her. Those words were enough to keep me away. They were enough to bruise my ego and make me take a break, but not enough to stop me from wanting her. Scarlett was in my head night and day. She had a special compartment already because she never seemed to take a break. I was also tormented by the thoughts of her, but it'd also seem like I wouldn't breathe without those thoughts
