24. Incurable
Since Siena was treated in the hospital yesterday, Alfonso hadn’t visited her yet. Why did he have to show up when Brian was here? Siena complained in her thoughts. She was worried Alfonso would discuss about their journey in front of Brian. If Brian found out she lied to him, how could she ever dare to face Brian anymore?
Alfonso walked in with his eyes piercing at Brian. Who was this man, another Siena’s fan? He glanced over at the bucket of roses from Brian, and other gifts on the table.
‘Huh!’ he grumbled inwardly. ‘Why on earth are they so fond of her? Why don’t they just make a fan club? The members must be the wise-ass lawyer and this man looking like a Korean boy band member.’
“Alf, this is Brian Jung, my best friend. Brian, this is Alfonso Garcia.” Siena reluctantly introduced them to each other to avoid the awkward situation.

“It’s beautiful,” was Siena’s first remark when she stood in front of Sakura Hotel. She had flown almost seventeen hours from Los Angeles and didn’t sleep well in the plane, feeling jet-lag. Somehow all her tiredness just disappeared when she saw the hotel built by Adalfo in her birthplace, even named after her own mother. It was a traditional Japanese style building with round windows, and the materials dominated by woods. The building didn’t stand tall, but stretched wide. It was absolutely not a modern hotel as she thought at first, but more like a guesthouse looking comfortable and peaceful. Moreover it was located not in a crowded place, but in a beautiful village near Mount Fuji. “Konnichiwa…. Welcome to Sakura Hotel!” a young girl wearing brown kimono greeted them respectfully from behind the reception desk. She was a local girl from her look, but she spoke English quite well.

Alfonso could not hide his surprise upon hearing Siena’s confession. Back then, when he was trying to find Siena’s mistake to threaten her, he had searched information about her family and her past. But he couldn’t find much. The most curious thing about Siena was her father. Alfonso couldn’t find any information about the man. Siena didn’t even use her father’s surname, but use her mother’s surname of Mori instead. It was quite common in USA though, regarding the fact that many children were born from unmarried couples, or a single mother who chose to raise her child by herself.
