Dexter’s face was grim as his eyes scanned the envelope he had received from his Private Investigator. He tore it open impatiently and shook all the contents out. The first thing his eyes fell on were the photos. He put the envelope back on the table and lifted the photographs. In all of them was Freda Pryce and the same guy at different locations.
In the first one, they were at a local pub. In the second one they were walking in the street and in the last one they were standing in the parking lot of the city’s main hospital. What Dexter could not understand was the close ties between her and this man, that he now knew was a gynaecologist; thanks to the power of thorough investigation.
He let the pictures f
Anelia walked out to the back alley to throw the garbage outside. She used to be a bit anxious about taking it out at first but if there was something she knew about a new place; one always got used to it eventually and Macy’s place was no different. Especially with all the good people that she was fortunate enough to work with. Most importantly, she was thankful that she had applied for the job and gotten it. She did have her Ordinary Level Certificate, unlike what she had said to Dexter, but still, not many people had been willing to hire her when there were probably more learned people out there. Macy’s offered her not too much money but at the moment, it was not money thats she was currently after. Working for Dexter had had its perks and that was one of them. What she was looking f
The car wheezed down the road, the only thing that was stopping it being the traffic lights. Anelia occasionally looked at Dexter behind the steering wheel, unsure of whether to say something to him to do away with the suffocating silence or not. After a while, she decided that it was best to talk to him. She turned so that she was really looking at him but seconds passed and she still couldn’t muster up the courage. With a pout of her lips, she looked away and sealed her lips.“It looks like you have something to say,” Dexter observed, briefly looking her way before focusing back on the road. Anelia twisted her mouth and shifted in her seat. “No, I don’t,” she muttered, looking out the window. “Turn right here,” she instructed, referring to the street that would lead to Celine’s home.
“You must be kidding, right?” Anelia blurted with wide eyes. She blinked a few times at the fifty dollar bills that were placed inside a brown envelope. “No, you most certainly got the wrong address,” she laughed cheerlessly.“I’m sure you most certainly did, eh,” she read his name tag. “Jerome, you got the wrong place.” She stretched her hand out, and eyed him to take the envelope out of her hand.“But you’re Anelia Telford, right? That’s what you said your name was.” He looked up at the name of the restaurant. “And I’m sure that I most definitely got the right address. It says here to deliver at Macy’s to Anelia Telford. Unless, of course, if you aren’t Anelia Telford.”Aneli
“What do you think you’re doing?” Anelia shouted and tried to pull her hands out of his grasp, to no avail. She stopped struggling and glared at him. “Let go of me!” She seethed.Dexter tilted his head to the side. “How am to know you won’t try to hit me again?” He questioned, looking at her with a knowing look. “Why do you easily resort to violence? You ought to know that that doesn’t solve anything. Besides, what can these small hands do to me?”He eyed her hands that were balled into fists and surprised her when he enclosed her hands with his. “See, mine are just way to big. What can you think to do with such small hands?” He raised their hands for her to see.
Freda put her hand on her forehead frustratedly. She couldn’t reach Paul and although she didn’t want to freak out, it was hard not to when she hadn’t been able to reach him all day long. She let a loose breath of air as the nerves started coiling inside her.“Where the hell is this idiot when you need him?” She muttered coldly, her anger seeping through each syllable. She huffed and threw her phone on the couch, clutching her head and settling herself on the couch. For a doctor, she felt that Paul McCartney was not that smart and she could think about the different ways he could potentially cause trouble for her. She just hoped that he had not already caused any trouble for her.
Her heart stopped beating for a moment as she stared at Dexter like he had suddenly grown two heads. She was at a completely loss for words as she willed everything to become one big nightmare; she would at least have the chance to wake up from it. "Surprised?" Dexter asked calmly, glaring at her. "I mean, I would be surprised too if someone whom I never envisioned would uncover my biggest secret somehow manages to. My, judging by the look on your face, you must be quite shocked. You're as white as a sheet." Dexter smirked and stood up straight. "Fine," he spoke slowly yet calmly and strolled away and allowed himself a glimpse of the water that spread into the long distance. He turned around, stretched his hands out and smiled
"Wait a second man," Dave suddenly grabbed his brother’s arm and pulled to a stop. "I don't think he would appreciate us getting our noses in his business."Brett eyed his brother and rolled his eyes. Though only a few people could tell them apart because of how closely they resembled each other, their personalities were nothing alike in many aspects. A significant one being that Brett was swift to make his mind up, whereas Dave was quick to change his mind."Look, it's fine if you've changed your mind. I can't hold that against you and I'm willing to do this alone.""Well, I guess it's decided," Dave said with a shrug. Brett patted him on the shoulder twice and walked off in the direction of the elevator."You better remember that I wanted to do this as much as you," Dave shouted after Brett who s
Contrary to the stereotype that men are naturally disorderly, Oliver was surprisingly quite the opposite. He didn't drink juices directly from the containers but poured himself a glass instead, always moped the floor when he spilled something and even went as far as offering to hoover the house on some days. Anelia was glad that she didn't have to tell him what to do and what not to around the house. So, it went without saying that she didn't have to avoid him as their living arrangement was pretty comfortable, just as they all were around each other. It also went without saying that Natie was all for the arrangement, he was her class teacher after all and it looked like he didn't mind all the extra questions she always asked him. Simply put, Anelia couldn't have asked for a better tenant. &
