ANMELDEN"Sorry... I still can't help you to get out of that jerk's mansion."
Her red burnt cheek looked so painful. But she was still smiling sweetly at him.
"My husband's house, Adi.."
He suddenly felt a little bit relaxed hearing that name coming from her.
"Adrian... Don't call me that."
That woman still wants to cool off the tension and tease Adrian again.
"So, Nadine can call you that?"
Adrian looks annoyed when she mentions that name.
"Olivia..."
"Okay... Okay... Give up. Just treat my wound."
Adrian looks satisfied with Olivia's decision.
"I have medicine in my room. Let's go there."
Without their knowing, Nadine had just arrived at that big house. She is just a minute away from them and when she is just in front of her husband's door, she hears a voice that she hates so much.
"You're really reckless... Your cheeks are more puffy than before."
"Ha ha.... Isn't it more cute Adi?"
Hearing someone other than her call Adrian's nickname made her blood boil again.
She open the door furiously and with her menacing look asks them calmly.
"Oh... So you have the guts to bring your mistress here, Adi."
She presses the tone when she calls Adrian's nickname. Adrian shot Nadine with his death glare.
"Uh... Uhm.. Nadine.. He just helped me to treat my wound."
Nadine walks to Olivia and grabs her jaw. Pressed her cold hand to her face and nailed her red cheek.
"Hiish...."
Seeing Olivia feeling the pain. Nadine just snickering and throwing her face away.
"You just lost your baby and you want to make another one, Adi?"
Olivia seemed so shocked to hear Nadine's words.
"Adrian? Is that true?"
Adrian looks mad then shields Olivia from Nadine's threat.
"She is the one who took the baby away."
Nadine just shows her facade but Adrian's words pierce her broken heart.
"Olivia, I will send you to your parent's house after I settle my matter with this evil."
Nadine snickered again and with her cold words she just blurted out the word that made Adrian more angry.
"Me? Evil? That's better than a cheaty husband."
Adrian took his anger by dragging her out of his room. He shoved her without mercy and Nadine hit the wall.
Her pride is bigger than her pain. She stood so proudly facing her husband. Her admiration for his warm attitude had gone away a long time ago. Now she has just seen a man with a cold face protecting his lover from his evil wife.
"We will settle our account when I'm back. You seem not in good condition right now."
Again she mocked her husband's words.
"Like you care! We can settle here, right now. I've lost everything so there's not much left that I wanna hold."
She is staring at her husband's honey eyes, searching for the warm gaze that he always gives whenever he sees Olivia's smile.
But she just sees a pool of cold lake in his eyes.
"If you had never been in my life, you wouldn't have lost it all."
Desperate, angry, jealousy burns her logic. Her usually calm demeanor losing its track, she finally breaks down in front of her dreamy husband.
"I know you will blame me! Ha ha ha...."
Adrian remains silent and doesn't want to confront his broken wife.
"Who won't blame evil like me? The one who forced you into this hell marriage is me!"
Seeing Nadine begin to be frustrated again, Adrian tries his best to calm her down.
"Nadine..."
But it just fuels her fire.
"Who is the one that made your former lover marry a jerk like Alex? Huh? Me!!"
Olivia hears Nadine shouting her husband's name but she is just so scared to get out of that room.
"Calm down...
He is trying to grab Nadine's arm but she refuses his touch.
"And then who is the one who manipulated your aunt's treatment so it became late?"
Adrian is still trying to grab Nadine but she always shoves his hand. And began frantically like a mad man.
"Na-....."
Nadine shushes Adrian, stopping him from spilling any words.
"Ssssh... Let me talk. I'm not done yet, Adi. Please...."
Pleading with her teary eyes, she just wanted to let out her frustration. She begins stepping back, scared that Adrian will catch her.
"And can you guess who is the one who made your father's cute little company bankrupt?"
Adrian wants to make a comment but Nadine stops him again.
"Ssssh... Ssssh let me guess... Oh, it's me again. And for that, I've got a bonus that will cause your father to death. Ha ha ha..."
Adrian steps forward to hold Nadine, but she still rejects his action. On the other hand, she steps back further away to nearly at the end of stairs.
"Adii.... I'm tired of getting your attention."
Her voice becomes too weak, her small shoulder shaking because she is beginning to sob. Adrian, who knew this was his chance, took his step towards his mad wife and would fall any minute if she took the wrong step. But it's too late, Nadine pushes Adrian further away and begins shouting again.
"And guess who killed your innocent baby boy Adi?"
With her broken smile and her hoarse voice she answers her own question.
"It's me! Me, Adi! This mess happened because of me!!!"
Adrian quickly ran away to grab her because he knew that she would fall if she kept moving backwards. But when she ends her sentences it is likely she wants to end her life too. She took one step back and began to fall on the cold stairs. She doesn't know how many times she bumped on the edges of stairs or how many times her head hit the stairs. She just sees her world spinning and stops when she reaches the bottom of the stairs.
"If I knew I would lose all of it, I would have let you go from the beginning."
Those were the last words Nadine said before collapsing from falling down the stairs. But her mind still remains awake.
'Maybe I will meet the Lord of Hell.'
Nadine thought it was the end of her life. And when she opened her eyes, hell would await her.
"Wait.. why is hell so comfortable?"
With her eyes still closed, she is touching the soft fluffy fabric that covers her body. And when she opens her eyes, she sees the ceiling at the top of her face seems identical with the one that decorates her gorgeous room.
"And why is it similar to my room?"
She is trying to touch her head, body and her arm. Because the last time she remembers, she is bouncing all over the stairs like a free ball falling from a mountain.
"Huh! No pain."
Beep beep beep beep beep She immediately searched for her phone to turn off her alarm. When she found it and turned it off, she seemed to have a heart attack."Whaaat!!!!"
"You only have three months to prove yourself on that project."The words were still ringing in Adrian's ears when he stepped into Henry's office to report the deal."Alex is in," Adrian said. "But he wants a fully operational building ecosystem within ninety days."Henry leaned back, something close to approval flickering across his cold eyes. "Congratulations. You tamed a predator my own teams couldn't touch." He gestured toward the door, where Mr. Davis already waited. "Prepare your infrastructure immediately. If you need contractors or architects, Davis has the best archives in the industry."Before Adrian could leave, Henry's tone sharpened. "Don't let this victory make you soft, son-in-law. Case 2 is still bleeding, and I expect a resolution before the month is out.""I won't slack off, Father." Adrian gave a firm nod and left. The office hours bled into the late evening. Nadine, delayed by a last-minute meeting, walked the empty executive hallway and slowed outside Adrian's d
"Focus on the contract, sir. Let's not give him an inch," Davis murmured, falling into step beside Adrian as they crossed the lobby of the downtown steakhouse. Adrian didn't answer. He'd rehearsed this pitch a dozen times on the drive over, and none of the versions had felt like enough. The private room of that high-end restaurant reeked of expensive leather and corporate ambition. Alex Barrett leaned back in his chair, took a sip of his afternoon tea, his suit jacket unbuttoned, watching Adrian approach with lazy amusement."You're late, Adrian." Alex's voice dripped with effortless arrogance.Adrian pulled out the opposite chair and sat without a word, his jaw locked tight, and set a blue folder on the table. "I'm here for the joint venture, not to socialize."Alex chuckled, resting his elbows on the polished wood. "Straight to business. I respect that.""Let's skip the small talk, Barrett. We're here for the Big Step project. Sign the cooperation papers for the mountain develop
Nadine sat behind her immaculate mahogany desk in her high-rise office, her eyes scanning the quarterly ledgers. Her phone chimed sharply against the polished wood.Nadine flinched, her heart hammering against her ribs with cold panic. Trouble. She snatched up the screen, bracing for a disaster alert about Case 1.Instead, a simple, unadorned message stared back at her: I got the deal.A breathless squeal slipped past her lips before she could catch it. The sudden, uncharacteristic sound made Anna flinch violently, dropping a red correction pen onto the audit papers."Miss Nadine?" Anna adjusted her glasses, staring in utter bewilderment.Nadine cleared her throat and typed back. Congratulations. I know you can do it. Report to Father immediately. Almost instantly, his reply lit up the screen: Thank you. I'm on my way to the office.Nadine stared at the glowing screen, warmth melting the ice around her heart. In their previous life, her phone had been a graveyard of unread messa
"Alex Barrett wants in on the presentation."Andrew's voice crackled over the line. "His team spent the afternoon hounding the owners of the Grove and the Dairy. They refused to take 'no' for an answer."Adrian adjusted his glasses, his jaw tightening as the shadow competition crept over the mountain. "And you're letting him join?""It's only fair to hear both proposals side-by-side," Andrew replied with a low, testing growl. "Tomorrow morning, 9 AM, at the timber mill. Don't be late, Adrian."Morning mist still clung to the peaks when Adrian and Mr. Davis arrived at the Whitfield farm. Adrian knew the land was tied to Barrett Corp, but he needed to see the enemy's footprints himself. Mr. Davis stood silently beside him, silver-rimmed spectacles catching the early light."Mr. Whitfield, I'm not here to renegotiate," Adrian began, extending a hand to the weathered farmer. "I just want to understand why you chose Alex's retail logistics over our eco-resort."The farmer looked at his
"So, Miss Angel's name is Olie?"Nadine stepped through the heavy front doors of the Merrick Estate, still turning over the collision of Alex and Olivia in her mind. The foyer was dim.Adrian arrived almost the same moment she did. They met at the front door."You're late, Nadine," Adrian said, his low baritone cutting through the silence of the hall. "A business meeting ran long, and I lost track of the hour," she replied, firm and practiced. Adrian's gaze dropped to the grease-stained parchment bag clutched tightly in her hand. "Why did you buy that?" Adrian asked, his tone sliding into a dangerous, suspicious register. "That's the signature snack from the East District market stall." He stepped closer, his broad frame casting a shadow over her as he searched her face for a lie.Nadine's heart skipped. She looked at her husband and saw a man who still, underneath it, viewed her as the enemy. "I was passing through the district and felt a craving," she lied, her voice softer than
Miss Angel. The name kept surfacing in Nadine's mind like a stone she couldn't stop turning over, even as the city lights blurred past the sedan's windows and Jim steered them toward Olivia's home.Where did I hear that name…"Nadine?" Olivia's soft voice broke through the silence. Nadine turned from the window, her expression smoothing. "I'm sorry, Olie. I was lost in my own thoughts for a moment.""Who was that man in the café, Nadine?" Olivia asked, her clear brown eyes searching for answers. "He seemed so… intense."She tapped her chin, thinking it over. "And energetic." A giggle escaped her. "You should have seen how messy he was."The sound of it, light, unguarded, faintly delighted, caught Nadine off guard.Don't laugh about him like that, Olie. Don't talk about him so fondly.Nadine's resolve hardened all over again.I won't let that light laugh turn into a mesmerized gaze, or worse, into tragedy for the Angel of these Starry Skies."An old friend from high school," Nadine s
Nadine returns to the office to meet Anna."You're really weird today. Suddenly, you want to cancel the contract. And make a fuss with Mr. Miller."Nadine only smiled faintly at Anna's nagging."You know Mr. Miller's in a bad state right now? His father had just died two days ago. And he has to han
"I told you our business is done."Nadine still hadn't lost her courage to persuade Adrian."I will help with all of my aunt's medical expenses. I will transfer her to the best hospital so she can walk again."Nadine hopes Adrian's anger subsides, but what she gets is the opposite. Adrian looks ver
Nadine then invites Adrian to get into her car. Adrian seemed to refuse to sit in the same place as Nadine. Without permission, he immediately opened the front door and sat down next to Jim. In the car, Jim looked confused by Adrian's behavior. Nadine just nodded her head and sighed, letting Adrian
Adrian snickered at Nadine's question. He suddenly closes the door in front of Nadine. But Nadine blocked the door with her legs. Nadine winced a little because the door hit her leg."Ouch!"Adrian instantly released his door and Nadine took the opportunity to barge in and left Adrian speechless wi
