Arabella

The last thing I expected as I arrived at Nathan's apartment was the sound of moans that filled the air. The living room was messed up with a woman's bag and shoes tossed carelessly; used wine glasses lying on the couch with an empty bottle of wine on the floor.

My pulse raced as I stood frozen in the middle of the room with multiple thoughts crossing my mind about who was in. I'd come over to set up a romantic atmosphere for Nathan, my fiance's birthday. He had no idea that I'd be here, but then, he was currently on a plane back home after a one-week business trip. It couldn't be him.

It couldn't be him...the thought brought me momentary relief.

Perhaps, a friend of his brought a woman over. Nathan had friends who could do something like this. I just wondered why whoever it was didn't caution the woman about her loud voice or why he didn't take her somewhere else in the first place.

Should I call them out?... I contemplated, rolling my eyes at the mess they made.

The moans of the woman intensified and I frowned, heading toward the hallway where the sounds were coming from. However, when I got to the room that sourced the sound, dread annihilated my entire system. It was Nathan's bedroom. Rage simmered in my chest. How could they use Nathan's room for shit like this?

Annoyed, I spun on my heels to leave, but the woman cried out again, and I paused, wondering why her voice sounded so familiar.

"Yes! fuck me harder!" She cried out zealously and a man's grunt followed. Whatever was happening was intense fuckery because I could hear the slapping of their skin from outside. Ew!

I took a step away but then paused again as I heard Nathan's voice. "Good girl, take it all"

My spine went taut, beads of sweat formed on my forehead and my heartbeat roared in my ears. No, no! I was surely hearing things. I couldn't be... He was on a plane...

"You're such a slut!" His voice was louder than the first time, and his words were accompanied by a loud smack, which made the woman shriek, "Ah!"

No, no, no!

I didn't realize how I moved and when but when I did, I found myself standing by the door, my hands slapped over my mouth and my teary eyes glued to Nathan and his partner on the bed.

"Bella!" Nathan's face had paled and he was staring back at me, horrified. My eyes shifted to the woman beneath him and my blood went cold. It was Harley, my stepsister. My heart shattered completely when I saw the sinister smirk she had on her lips. Of all the whores around, he chose to cheat on me with the one person I didn't like.

I turned and sprinted down the hallway, the pounding of my heartbeat in my ears louder than my steps. The delayed flight was a lie. What else had been a lie? Us?

Oh. My. God!

"Bella, wait, fuck!" I heard his desperate call but didn't stop till I stumbled over a heel – it belonged to her. I fell on my face. I couldn't breathe. My face had become wet with tears but there was no sound from me.

I couldn't get up on my own till he came rushing to me and assisted me. The fact that I had to lean on him at such a time, made my anger boil over. I lifted my hand and struck his face, the sound echoing eerily through the room.

"How long has this been going on? For how long have you been fucking her?!" My breathing was labored.

Nathan stepped forward, trying to touch my shoulder, but I shifted back and clutched my bag.

"Bella, please let's sit and talk about this," He pleaded, but I'd made a beeline to the door already, my steps wobbly. He followed and tried to touch me again with those hands that had been touching another woman. I slapped them off and glared at him.

"No, I don't want to sit and talk about how you were fucking my stepsister–" I choked on my words, my heart constricting painfully. "You know... God!" I couldn't even form a whole sentence. It hurt so much.

"Bella, please wait." His arms wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me against his chest. "I know I fucked up but... I'm sorry" He said, his voice laced with guilt. And that was just because I'd caught him!

"Don't be! I guess I should have known earlier that I wasn't your type. No, you should have told me because I'm truly dumb and had no idea" I struggled to move away from his hold desperately, thrashing my feet and arms. I would have gotten help if there were other people around, but this cheater had the whole floor to himself.

My body went limp when I saw Harley stepping out of the apartment putting on the shirt I'd gotten for him a month ago. I almost screamed as the pain that had evaded my heart twisted my guts.

"Stay away from me, Nathan. We're over!" I yelled, pushing him back with all I could muster. I then continued to the elevator, and he was hot on my tail.

"Bella, can you please give me a chance to explain? I'm sorry... This isn't what you think it is!"

"Oh really? What else does it mean other than you banging another woman, Nathan!" I stopped to look at him in disbelief. I couldn't believe he was trying to justify what I'd seen with my own eyes.

"Sweetheart, Bella. Please listen to me, I love you, please..." These words used to make my whole world spin, but today, they only intensified the anger I was feeling.

My hand itched to strike him again but was it worth it? Instead, I began to run for the lift.

"God, Bella! Stop acting like this is all on me. You forced me! We never got any time together because you were always busy or buried in your shit! I didn't know what to do!" Nathan yelled, and I smiled bitterly as I came to an automatic halt. Now, he was blaming his lack of self-control on me.

"If that bothered you so much, you should have ended things rather than lying to me and going to fuck that bitch!" I snapped, my gaze falling on Harley whose face had turned red from anger. She had been quiet and it was the right choice for her. She knew she couldn't stand my anger.

I looked back at Nathan who was running a hand through his hair. I always thought he was adorable when he did that but not today or ever again. The sight of him disgusted me, it made me nauseous.

Unable to stand him – them – anymore, I turned and pressed the elevator button frantically, and when it finally opened, I jumped in. Nathan was behind me, and he pressed the emergency button, making the lift stay still.

"Are you serious, Bella?" He said, his voice threateningly low. "You're upset and that's fine. Just don't take too long to get over it. I won't wait forever"

I stared at him in disbelief. When had he changed so much? His dark eyes were pinned on mine and I saw a small smirk tugging at the side of his lips when he thought he had gotten me cornered.

"You don't need to wait because I'll never be back, Nathan, never!" I growled and his face fell, and before he could say a word, I moved forward and kicked him as hard as I could in the groin. He stumbled back and as I watched him groan in pain, I shakily pulled off the engagement ring he'd given me and threw it at him.

I then pressed the button that would take me down. As the doors slid shut, my knees gave out and I sank to the floor. A sob tore through my chest and my tears spilled over in torrents.

AdrianI leaned back in my chair, fingers steepled under my chin as I stared out the floor-to-ceiling windows. Lennon's voice droned in the background about a new franchise we were in talks to acquire, but despite that being something of interest, my mind was miles away.Ara's effortless display of clumsiness this morning kept looping in my head. I'd tried to shake off the image of her small frame colliding into me, the startled look on her face, the way her cheeks flushed pink. But the memory had rooted itself unyielding, circling back no matter how many times I tried to shove it aside. And each time it did, I caught myself smirking like a fool. She was cute — and at the moment, a damn distraction. An unshakable one. I wasn't the type to linger, especially not on someone as stubborn as her. Yet there she was, taking up space in my head effortlessly.I shut my eyes as I drew in a deep breath, trying to pay attention to what Lennon was saying. "We've completed the preliminary assessme

ArabellaI turned to stare at him, fascinated despite the heat crawling to my face. His head was tilted back, his shoulders shaking as the deep sound of his laughter filled the room.I cocked my head, blinking. His smile was pretty — the kind that shouldn't exist on a real person. The sound of his laughter made warmth pool in my stomach. This was the first time I’d seen him laugh. Not smirk, or chuckle sarcastically, but actually laugh. It was at my expense, sure, but still...I cleared my throat, heat rising in my neck again. "Glad I could amuse you," I muttered, trying to sound nonchalant, even though I wanted to disappear into the floor. He didn't answer immediately, he just kept looking at me with that annoying, knowing grin."Next time, try walking before running," He said finally, voice maddeningly smooth.I rolled my eyes, fists clenching by my sides as I tried to regain my composure. "You might want to have your gym equipment evaluated then, because I did try walking," I blurt

ArabellaI straightened up, trying to look casual, but the heat still burned on my face. "I wasn't... eyefucking you," I shot back quickly, my voice a little sharper than I meant it to be.Adrian's gaze was still pinned on me, and that infuriating smirk was in place, reveling at the sight of the shame consuming me. I was probably redder than a tomato, and still my eyes couldn't stop wandering to places it had no business.Except, those places were right before me. Bare, glsiern, huge... and right there! His lips curled, and he tilted his head, a hint of amusement and something else I couldn't name dancing in his eyes."You're still doing it now, Ara. If you have a little bit of decency, please take your eyes away from my crotch." My entire face burst into flames, and I swear I felt my soul almost jump out of my body. If the ground could open and swallow me, I would've thanked it.My gaze met his, my body burning with embarrassment. "I'm not staring at your... crotch." My voice was ov

  • Contract Marriage With My Billionaire-Ex   Chapter 35

ArabellaThe next morning, I woke up earlier than expected. Sunlight leaking through the blinds, brushing warm fingers across my face. For a second, I just lay there, confused. I never woke up this early. Then it hit me. I'd slept early. After meeting with Dr. Khalid last night, Ruth and Sky had practically dragged me out of the hospital and sent me home. When I got home, I didn't bother pulling the sheets over me as I hit the bed.A yawn escaped my mouth. My head didn't throb like it usually did when I woke up, and my muscles were relaxed. Huh. So that's what rest felt like.I dragged myself out of bed, stretched until my joints popped, and headed straight to the bathroom. A long, warm shower later, I threw on a simple pair of shorts and a huge t-shirt that nearly swallowed me whole. Comfort over everything. As I stepped out of the room, I sent Ruth a quick text: How was your night? Then paused, scanning the hallway.Silence.No trace of life anywhere. Again.I moved through the hous

  • Contract Marriage With My Billionaire-Ex   Chapter 34

ArabellaMy steps were unhurried as I walked through the hospital hallways. My movement was laid-back but my face was twisted into a frown.Mark had sent me more work through email, and he insisted I send the results to him early tomorrow. So much for a good night's rest tonight. The past week and a few days had been quite hefty both at home and at work.I didn't know how I managed to pull through the day at work today. Despite the flurry of meetings and the dull ache that settled in my spine, I was still poised — like I hadn't spent the previous night in a stiff hospital chair watching my mother for hours. She underwent a successful surgery last night.I was happy. Really. Finally, Ruth would stop worrying all the time and my mom would leave the hospital. She'd been admitted for almost five months.Even I could relax after so long. For the past year, all I did was worry about covering bills and paying debts. It felt good to be free.Family aside, Steph had been out of town for a week

  • Contract Marriage With My Billionaire-Ex   Chapter 33

AdrianThe elevator came to a stop with a soft ding. I stepped out, my mind reeling with thoughts as the lobby passed by in a blur. The cool city air hit me the second I walked out of the buildingMy jaw was tight. My fists were clenched like I needed to punch something, someone — myself, maybe.Sky was the last person I expected to see tonight. How long had it been since I last saw her? Five years? A hollow chuckle slipped past my lips. Pathetic. We used to be close – like two peas in a pod. She'd moved in with my grandparents around age ten. She was dumped there, actually. Her parents had a better child to raise, and thanks to their friendship with my family, Sky ended up with us. She became the little sister I never asked for and I'd never regretted it.When she said she wouldn't speak to me again back then, I thought it was another joke of hers. Turns out, it wasn't. I called a few times. Then stopped.I told myself I didn't owe her an explanation for hurting her best friend. A pa

  • Contract Marriage With My Billionaire-Ex   Chapter 32

Arabella"Why did you have to ask him to stay?" I sighed, turning away from the door where I watched Adrian speaking to Gabriel. He was giving the man some serious instructions while lounging comfortably on the couch."This is the least we can do to appreciate his help," Ruth murmured, twisting open a can of tomatoes. She was preparing her special recipe for pasta and meatball sauce. Simple, but always delicious."The help being what I'd earned," I emphasized the word earned. "The money I earned for being his fake wife, in case you've forgotten." Muttering under my breath, I reluctantly moved toward the boiling pot on the stove. Ruth paused for a moment, her lips curling into a lopsided smile."You weren't thinking this way when you were weeping in his arms," she teased, sighing dramatically. "Ah... I used to have strong arms for myself too, back in the day."A sharp gasp left my lips."What are you saying?" Heat burned my neck. For some reason, Adrian's scent — trapped in my memory —

Arabella"No! Don't touch her!" Ruth's voice cracked with panic, stepping between me and the man moving forward. But he didn't stop. None of them did.The largest of them grabbed my arm roughly, yanking me forward like I weighed nothing. My cry of protest got swallowed in the chaos — Ruth yelling, me struggling, his fingers digging in so hard I was sure they'd bruise."I said let go!" I shouted, jerking away, but the other man stepped in, grabbing my other arm."Stop it! Please!" Ruth's voice was shaking now. "Give us more time, please!"The man only smirked. A sinking feeling settled in my stomach as I was tossed forward. Pain stung my skin from the men's harsh grip, my eyes welling with unshed tears. Had Adrian even seen my text?It was funny. After all my efforts, I was still going to end up caged by this monster. My heartbeat was erratic, and a lump formed in my throat. The urge to let it loose was a tick away. I couldn't take this anymore.Just as they were about opening the door

  • Contract Marriage With My Billionaire-Ex   Chapter 30

AdrianA minute. That's all it took. One minute of silence. One call cut too quickly. One word — Amor.My fingers tightened around the phone. Something was wrong. The way her voice had dropped, the rushed tone, the way she snapped. And then that voice in the background."Sir, the call was traced to her apartment" Lana reported, walking into my office. My jaw tightened as I stood up slowly, the chair scraping against the floor. I barely noticed it."Ask Lennon to take over the meeting," I told her and she nodded, stepping aside as I headed to the door. My steps were fast and deliberate. I had to get to Ara as soon as possible. She said she wasn't in trouble. She lied.My heart pounded in a rhythm I hadn't felt in years. Not fear. I didn't do fear. But rage? That was second nature. And right now, it was clawing its way up my throat. The elevator ride was fast. Gabriel was ready with the car when I arrived at the underground parking lot. Lana must've informed him of where I was headed so
