Hailey's POV

For the third time this week, I find myself seated in Levi's office, my fingers twisting together as I stare out the large window. The city stretches beyond the glass, with cars weaving through traffic, and pedestrians moving along the sidewalks.

Levi had asked me to come here because the results of the DNA test are ready. We took the test three days ago - just like we agreed - and now, in just two days, we've gotten an answer. He went to pick the results himself but insisted that I wait for him here.

I exhale slowly, rubbing my thumb and forefinger together, my body racking with nerves.

'What will the results say?'

I am confident that the child is Levi's. But with the way everything went so fast, I'm also afraid that the result might not be accurate.

What if it's accurate, but the child isn't Levi's?

I squeeze my eyes shut. I can't think like that. If the child turns out to be Jake's - which I'm sure it isn't - I don't know what I would do.

No. I wou

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   seventy four

Hailey's POVSilence settles between us once more. This time, more comfortable than the last. I try to stop my thoughts from wandering down the same lane as before, keeping my eyes on the couples on the dancefloor. I can't believe Matt—I later found out that he had something to do with it—managed to convince my boss to throw an actual party. I can't lie that it wasn't a good idea, though. Everyone needs to let it out once in a while, and my drunk coworkers—and boss—couldn't be any better confirmation of that. Good thing tomorrow's the weekend, so they won't have to deal with a hangover and still go to work. Seeing the clear fun on their faces, I almost wish I could join them. Too bad drinking doesn't go well with my condition, and I need to be drunk before getting the courage to dance in public. "Do you want to dance?" Levi asks, snapping me out of my thoughts. "What?" He nods toward the makeshift dancefloor. "You've been staring longingly for a while, like you were contemplati

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   seventy three

Hailey's POV Ever since we got out of the bathroom, Levi's stuck to my side like a fucking pest. To others outside, it may look sweet, but I know he's doing it because he's jealous —wrongfully so— and doesn't want me to get the chance to talk to any guy again. And I'm not just saying this as an assumption. I'm saying it because it's happened. More than once. Every time a guy approached me, he went all macho man on him. He even managed to chase off one of my colleagues who'd just come to say hi. And if you think that was embarrassing, you should've seen the way he made me say goodbye to Cole from behind him, making sure I didn't even get a peek at the guy. I can't help but wonder where the sudden possessive streak came from. And also, how do women even find extra possessiveness attractive?Because I'm sure as hell that Levi's attitude isn't sweet. It's anything but. It's torture. And I'm sure he knows it too, and that's why he enjoys it so much. Having had enough, I decide I'm go

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   seventy two

Hailey's POV I noticed his gaze kept flicking to someone at my back while we'd been talking, but I'd just brushed it off. He gestures with his head at someone behind me, and I turn, following his line of vision.A frown twists my lips as my gaze lands on Levi, who is now walking toward us. His gaze is solely on Cole, and he looks like he's about to kill someone. Oh God. I don't need a Levi-size drama right now. "Yep. He's the husband," I sigh. "Do you think I should—" His words cut off just as a hand settles on my shoulders. "Hey, man. I'm Cole." Cole offers a hand, scratching the back of his neck with the other. Levi takes the hand, and I can swear he's squeezing Cole's tightly right now. "Hailey's husband," he replies.I should be more upset by the sudden possessiveness, but I find my heart doing somersaults because of the simple fact that he called himself my husband. They engage in a stare-down. Levi, murderous and intimidating... and kinda hot. Cole, challenging and... n

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   seventy one

Hailey's POV Wrong So fucking wrong. So wrong that it could replace the actual definition of that word in the dictionary. Because tell me why I haven't been able to get my mind off him in thirty-two hours, five minutes and thirty seconds. It almost feels like just because I'd determined not to think of him, my brain decided that that was just what it was going to do. And seeing him walking around, making friends with colleagues and strangers so easily doesn't help it. In fact, it gives me something else to think about. And the fact that he's wearing a blue shirt that defines his muscular chest and arms doesn't help in any way. It does something to me, something that I'm not proud of. Something that the determined Hailey of yesterday isn't going to be proud of. It stirs my lady parts in so many ways. If things were different, I'd have pulled him by his collar into one of the restrooms and given him the best—Jesus Christ. Now I'm starting to think like Matt.If he were in my hea

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   seventy

Hailey's POV "You did what?" "He doesn't work for me anymore. I fired him." It's only been two days since Levi told me that he'd caught Jake doing something illegal in the company. And then he said that he was going to handle it, but I didn't expect it'd be this final... or at least not so quickly. He'd insisted on using the footage from the cameras to report Jake and build a case, but I advised him against it. Jake might deserve that, but it felt too extreme. And I also was afraid that Levi only wanted to do that more for me than for the company. I don't need him fighting my battles for me. I can handle myself. Besides, Jake isn't much trouble anymore. "Aren't you happy about that?" I sigh and lean back in my chair. Happy isn't the exact word. Today's been great. Not. The product launch is tomorrow —Friday, and my boss had this fantastic idea to turn it into some sort of party—I don't know why—which only helped in doubling the preparations and tripling my stress level. Levi

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   sixty nine

Levi's POV They had to be ganging up on me. I know it. It was like some plan or something. I know Hailey and Millie had gotten comfortable with each other, but I didn't expect it to be this close— close enough to cheat their way into winning me in a game I've never lost. I groan as I drop my cards down on the table. "I give up. You guys are cheating." The two girls giggle across from me. "Are you upset, Uncle Levi?" Millie asks, tipping her head, and giving me her cutest puppy dog eyes. I'm not falling for it though. Meanwhile, Hailey doesn't have the shame to cover their act. "Don't mind him. He's just a sore loser." "No, I'm not. You both cheated." Millie snickers. My god. Hailey's got her on her side now. I should've suspected something when they teamed up against me, and when Millie kept insisting she had to be with Hailey. I didn't know the "girls supporting girls" thing also covered cheating. Now I wish I had a little boy on my team. I fold my arms and lean back on th
