Chapter 8: Amy said Sorry

Chapter 8: Amy said sorry

Author's POV

Cole stood shocked at Amy's outburst, she was right, he had overstepped the line, he shouldn't have said those words, it's true he doesn't even know anything about her, other than the fact that she looks sexy enough that he'll like to have her in his arms right there and then, its true that he was just here to...

Not here to get her pregnant as she currently thinks, but to make a deal with her to get those blue prints, he shouldn't have gotten involved in her life or family in the first place, he can't take his words back anymore, Cole McCoy never leaves anything half way, he had volunteered to go look for her and bring her back to her family, by God he'll do that and leave this damned town for good, he'll have his Secretary make the deal with Amy or better still Hire Another person.

"I'm sorry, I..."

"The hell you are, but it does it Change anything?, it doesn't!" She said with a bitter cry and turned away from him.

Suddenly feeling some of her pain...

"Amy I..." He broke off his sentence when he saw her moving away from him.

"Where are you going?" He asked, surprised.

"How, where else?" She said without turning.

"But your car?..." Cole asked following her

"Right" she replied and turned in the direction of the car.

Cole had left the keys in the ignition earlier, she got in and started the engine,

"Wait" Cole held her hands, she stared into his eyes, she looked so pained and scared, Cole just wanted to hug right then.

"Let me drive you, if just for tonight" he said in a low voice, whatever made him say that, he didn't know, he just felt he had to.

Amy opened her mouth to refuse but closed it again,

Cole was expecting her to say no, and would have been glad if she said no,

'I keep saying the wrong things, and keep getting involved' he said to himself.

"Fine" she got out and went to the other side of the car, Cole stared at her dumbly, he couldn't believe the lady accepted his offer,

"What?, stop looking at me like that, you wanted it, you got it, now what?" She asked weakly, she felt bone tired, she couldn't believe she walked all that way and she didn't even feel remember walking,

"Nothing really" Cole replied silently and got into the car.

"Do you have your phone with you?" She asked after a while

"Yes why?" Cole replied with a question of his own.

"Could I please make a call on it?" She asked weakly.

"Yes, uhn why?" Cole asked as he fished out his phone from his pants's pocket

"I just want to call mother" she replied as she collected the phone from him,

"Since we're heading there anyway, do you really need to call her?"

"no offence I'm just curious" Cole added

"None taken, we're not going there, I really want to go home" she said for short

"Oh" Cole Murmured

"What's your password?"

"Lexi McCoy" he replied without thinking

"What?, You're married?" Her eyes flew over to him, what's he doing here if he was already married?,

Amy had Exclusively informed the Agency while signing the contract that she doesn't want a married man, so what the heck?

"No I'm not" Cole glanced at her briefly before concentrating on the road again.

Married?, Hell no

"Then who's Lexi McCoy?, Your mom?, You didn't tell me there's a Mrs McCoy" Amy Stared at him strangely, hoping to God that Lexi McCoy is his Mother and not his wife.

"She's my Sister, not my Wife" Cole replied with a smile beneath his voice, how could anyone assume Lexi's his wife?

"Ohh"

"I'm sorry, I just thought... I'm sorry" Amy said quietly.

"Yeah" he replied simply.

She unlocked his phone quietly, the wall paper caught her eye and she studied the beautiful lady, Cole was lifting in his arms in what looks like a pool, she was wearing an Expensive bikini suit and she was laughing, they seem to have similar features

"Is this Lexi?" She asked curiously,  she held the phone towards Cole when he glanced at her.

"Yeah, this is Lexi, my sister" Cole said emphasing the word Sister.

"She Beautiful"

"And you guys look pretty close" Amy added, a sad smile tugging on her lips.

"Yeah, we're really close, and I'm glad you find her beautiful, she's the best I could have ever asked for" Cole grinned

"Yeah I'm sure"

Amy dialed her mother's number and waited for her to pick the call.

"Hi Mom" she swallowed as her mother picked.

"Amy?" Bibiana asked uncertain

"Yes Mama"

"God girl, where have you been?, Do you know how worried I've been?, Do you know..."

"I'm sorry Ma, I'm sorry I got you worried, I thought I'll take a walk, I just got carried away that's all, I love you Mom, Cole's taking me home now, I'll see you and Joe later"

"Say my love to Joe" Amy added

"But..."

"Goodnight Mama" Any said quickly and disconnected the call

She held the phone to her chest and closed her eyes.

"Are you okay?" Cole asked after a while

"Yeah I'm fine" she replied stiffly

"You look tense"

"I look tense when I'm tense" she hardened her voice, hoping he'll get the message and leave her alone.

"You wanna tell me what's wrong?" Cole pushed, he knew he was walking on thin ice by pressing for answers but she looked different, she looked vulnerable, and one doesn't just walk for miles on end without a purpose, that doesn't seem like the Amy he knows, and the Amy he knows (Even if it has only been for few hours) is one tough nut, not the kind that loses control easily, and the look in her eyes when he found her?

She was walking into death without even realising it yet...

"I said I'm fine, I don't wanna tell you shit, just leave me the hell alone, I'm ok and that's it!" She was almost yelling by the time she was done.

"I'm sorry I asked" Cole flinched, maybe she's not Vulnerable after all, maybe the Pope isn't Catholic, either way, he'll keep his damned mouth shut and stay out of her business, he kept saying the wrong stuffs at the wrong time.

The car was silent for 20 minutes, Cole regretted his decision to play this charade a while longer and stay and attend their family reunion, he wasn't even a part of her family, what in the world was he thinking?

Suddenly Amy cleared her throat and stared at him, she was glad the darkness surrounding them kept him from seeing her flushed skin.

"I'm sorry for being rude..." Taking a deep breath

"I realise I shouldn't have been rude to you, you've helped me a lot" Amy said in one breath, she felt her face hot against the cool night air.

Cole did a double take, there's no question that he was shocked by her apology.

Deciding to come clean,

"It's fine, I shouldn't have asked, there's something I'll like to tell you, I'm not..."

"I know I was rude to you ok?, but I just can't go around telling everybody about my past, can I?, So I would really like it if you don't ask" Amy said.

Cole glanced at her in surprise, that wasn't on the list of things he wanted to ask but now that he thought about it, she seems to be carrying much grudge from her past around.

"Your future shouldn't suffer because of your past Amy, and who knows if you share what's bothering you so much, you might find it easier?" Cole said gently, risking another one of Amy's anger.

Amy waited impatiently for him to drive the car into her drive way before replying.

"What if my past is the key to my future?, And what if that key is what I need to be happy?" Amy raised her brows.

Cole had no answer.
