Chapter 1

Penulis: South Twig
"Are you out of your mind? Caleb helped me with my problem out of kindness! He did it to improve your love life! How could you make such a passive-aggressive comment on his post? You're unbelievable!"

I felt tired. I closed my eyes and cut her off coldly.

"I've waited seven hours for you in the mountains for the treatment. Where are you?"

She paused for a few seconds, trying to work up an excuse, then answered with a trace of impatience.

"What are you doing there? My problem is already cured. Hold on, I'm coming to pick you up."

Hearing the sudden concern in her voice, I squeezed my eyes shut.

"No need!"

I hung up and resolutely headed down the mountain, but it suddenly started pouring. I heard a car honking urgently behind me.

Wendy poked her head out, urging me with a sigh.

"Xander, get in the car."

Not wanting to get drenched, I opened the door and was about to get in when Wendy received a call from Caleb Cox.

"Wendy, I don't feel that well after treating you earlier. Can you come and take me to the hospital?"

After hanging up, she anxiously locked the car door. With a frown, she told me flatly, "Take shelter under a tree first! Caleb is waiting for me."

I frowned. "But I was about to get in the car..."

Before I could finish, Wendy floored the accelerator and drove off without looking back.

Watching the car zoom away without hesitation, the cold wind and rain chilled me to the bone. I could not help but shiver.

It had always been like this. Whenever anything happened to Caleb Cox, the one standing next to him was always the married woman Wendy Smith.

Taking a deep breath, I resolutely sent Wendy the divorce papers I had prepared.

I walked along the mountain road for a long time and finally managed to hitch a ride down the mountain safely.

As soon as I got home, someone suddenly shared a screenshot of Caleb's post in the group chat.

"Caleb's post is so savage! What kind of problem does Doctor Smith have that could possibly require Doctor Cox's help?"

Then, someone sent a voice message, sounding sleazy.

"Isn't it obvious? She has an 'Arousal Disorder' whenever she sees Xander."

I was perplexed. How would they know something so private? What they said next made my blood turn to ice.

"Everyone knows Caleb is Wendy's first love. Xander can't have her body nor her heart."

"I see. Wendy came up with the 'Arousal Disorder' excuse to stay pure for Caleb. Only a fool like Xander would believe that."

I gritted my teeth. I never expected Wendy to go this far for Caleb.

"I don't care about her body or her heart. We're getting divorced anyway..."

I was about to send this message when another message popped up in the group: "OMG! Delete it! Xander is in the group!"

The next second, I was kicked out of the group.

I smiled bitterly.

Forget it. It was the last three days of the divorce's waiting period. I did not care about anything except getting the divorce certificate.

As soon as I got to the door, I saw Wendy leaning on the couch, clutching a photo of Caleb.

Wendy murmured softly, "Caleb, I love you so much..."

I could not help but chuckle when I saw that.

If it were in the past, I would have rushed in and confronted her, but now I just watched her coldly.

As her emotions grew stronger, my heart grew colder.

I pushed the door open abruptly. Wendy froze.

Seeing her hurriedly stuff the photo into her pocket, I sneered.

"You left me on the road so that you could rush back here to relieve your tension?! What happened to your Arousal Disorder?"

Clearing her throat to hide her guilt, Wendy quickly looked away.

"I was just about to feel something, but you interrupted me, and now I don't feel anything again."

I looked at her flushed face and scoffed.

"Really? I thought your problem was just a lie so that I wouldn't touch you."

Under my questioning, a fleeting look of panic flashed in her eyes.

But a second later, as if to prove to me that she really did feel nothing, Wendy grabbed my hand.

"How could I be lying? Don't believe me? Feel for yourself."

Instantly, my pupils constricted. The thought that Caleb might have touched her made me sick.

I yanked my hand back, took two steps back, and looked at her coldly:

"I don't care how you feel. Wendy, we're getting divorced!"

She became drunk all day long, losing all her former elegance. As for me, after breaking free from Wendy's harassment, my life gradually got back on track. My childhood friend, Linda Altomare, had been quietly supporting me since she found out about my divorce. She would bring me warm dinners when I worked overtime. When I was in a bad mood, she would take me hiking and to the movies.Linda was a friend I had grown up with, so I used to think of her as just a good friend. But after spending so much time with her lately, I gradually realized that there was a different kind of tenderness hidden in her eyes when she looked at me.One night, she suddenly grabbed my hand and confessed her feelings."Xander, I've liked you for a long time. I didn't dare to tell you when you were still with Wendy, but now that you're single, I don't want to miss the chance again."We did not have a grand declaration of love, but we had a warmth that flowed steadily, which was exactly the kind of love

The movers worked swiftly, loading the solid wooden couch, crystal chandelier, and other items onto the truck piece by piece.Wendy was still clinging to the wedding photo, refusing to let go. I stood at the entryway, watching the whole drama unfold with a sense of irony. Then, I grabbed my already packed suitcase and turned to leave."No, Xander! Don't leave!"Wendy let go of the photo frame, stumbling forward to grab my wrist."Honey, I'm sorry, I really am! Caleb is a liar! He tricked me! After all we've been through, you can't just end it like this!"I looked at her coldly."From the day you cheated on me, we were already over."She shouted, her eyes red."Remember the old days? When you were sick, I stayed up all night taking care of you. When you wanted that figurine, I searched all over town to get it for you. Have you forgotten all that?""I haven't forgotten, but there's no need to remember it either."I opened the car door. A gust of cold wind rushed in, scattering

Mary couldn't handle the shock. She collapsed to the floor. She pointed at Caleb with a trembling finger, cursing in anguish, "You evil man! What have you done?! You have no conscience!"A hint of guilt flickered in Caleb's eyes, and he remained silent.Mary couldn't contain her anger any longer and slapped Caleb on the face."If you knew you had a disease like that, why did you have to ruin our daughter? You deserve to die!"Caleb covered his face and smirked, his eyes full of resentment."Mary, I can't help it. I love Wendy too much. We had a marriage arrangement when we were children, but Xander, that jerk, beat me to it. How can I accept that?"Wendy rubbed her body in terror and could not help gagging. She also gave Caleb a slap on the face."You scumbag! You got infected and you had to infect me too. You're disgusting!"Caleb covered his face and laughed mockingly, but as he laughed, tears streamed down his face."I'm disgusting? You're no better, eating what's in your

The divorce certificate landed on the floor with a thud and bounced to Wendy's feet. Her pupils shrank. She bent down to pick it up and inspect it, flipping it over repeatedly. She said, her voice trembling, "Impossible... When did you do this? How did you divorce me without my consent?"Caleb suddenly stepped forward and said, his voice tearful and sounding wronged, "Wendy, this is all my fault. Xander must have been planning this for a long time."Mary quickly grabbed my wrist, her face pleading."Xander, don't do anything impulsive! You must have gotten this divorce certificate in a fit of anger. Let's nullify it, okay? Wendy is just confused, give her another chance. After she gives birth, I'll keep an eye on her, I promise she won't mess up again!"With a sigh, Andy walked over to me, his tone much softer."Xander, it's normal for married couples to have arguments. You and Wendy have been together for so many years; you can't just end it like this."Wendy's hand, clutching

"Andy? Mary? What are you doing here?"Mary grabbed my hand and looked me up and down, her eyes full of sincere concern."Xander, Wendy said you two had a fight and you want to divorce her. We were worried Wendy might have mistreated you, so we took the night train to come check on you."I was stunned, my fingers curling slightly. Mary held my hand tightly, worried."Xander, Wendy wouldn't have been able to achieve so much without your support throughout the years. You told me last time that you were looking for a traditional medicine practitioner for her, right? Why do you suddenly want a divorce?!"Andy also looked at me and spoke earnestly."Xander, if that ungrateful girl dares to wrong you, I'll beat her to death with a stick!"Looking at the elderly couple, dusty from their trip, my nose felt stuffy.I remembered when I first started the hospital with Wendy, I was so busy I barely had time to rest.Mary, who lived in the countryside, would send me some chickens from home

"Quit? Xander, are you threatening me? You think you're so tough, huh? Go on, walk out! If you walk out, it's over between us!"Wendy grabbed me and squeezed the words out through gritted teeth.I simply gave her a cold smile."Okay. Remember to sign the divorce papers and send them to me."The woman was stunned. She tightened her grip on my arm, confusion evident in her eyes."What divorce papers? Quitting isn't enough, you're threatening me with a divorce now?"Her pretentiousness disgusted me.The divorce papers I sent her clearly showed 'read', yet she's still pretending!I yanked my hand away, met Wendy's questioning gaze, and spoke slowly and deliberately."You just need to sign them and send them back to me. That's all."Not wanting to argue with her anymore, I picked up my box and headed out.Behind me, Wendy was furious. She shouted at me."Xander, don't you dare walk out, or you'll regret it!"I snorted and got on the elevator. As soon as I got to the lobby, I h
