Travis POV

Two vehicles were down and more cars were on our tail. I shot sporadically at the black car behind us. I didn’t even know who they were but I was sure they were after me.

Beside me, Athena ducked low with her hand over her ear. She jerked every time I fired and I knew she was scared.

“Stay down!” I shouted, trying to shield her with one arm while still aiming.

“I’m trying!” she said, voice shaking.

Her face was pale and her eyes were wide with fear. They didn’t know she was traveling with me that meant she was safe.

I saw the car behind us swerve wildly and it flipped, crashing into the dirt and flipping over again.

“Got one!” I said, still gripping my gun tightly. Suddenly another car hit us from behind.

Athena screamed, grabbing onto the seat in front of her.

“Athena! Stay in the car! They’re after me, not you!” I shouted.

She nodded fast, eyes full of fear.

Maurice looked at me through the rearview mirror. “Time?”

“Time,” I said.
