Chapter 45: Business Trip

Christiana’s POV

The day started like most business trips in the sterile hum of an airport terminal. Bryan was in one of his tailored charcoal suits, crisp white shirt, tie knotted with mathematical precision. He looked like the cover of a business magazine. I, on the other hand, had opted for a sleek navy dress with a blazer, the kind that said professional while still being comfortable enough to sit through a flight without feeling like my ribcage was in a vice.

I almost wore something more attractive, but I wouldn’t want to draw attention to myself. I was out here for work and not vacation right?

Bryan had treated me so nicely, he helped with my luggage like a gentleman and it made me cringe, how could I possible allow my boss take my luggage, but he insisted that how could he allow the world to think he was a terrible person to allow me take my luggage. I asked that we each carry our separate luggage but all to no avail. I wondered why he didn’t have

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 94: Try not to hurt him

Chapter 94: Try not to hurt himChristiana’s POV “Do you know what it feels like?” he asked, his voice low, shaking with the effort of control. “To love someone your whole damn life and watch them look right past you? To stand there while another man gets the pieces of you I’ve begged for? Your heart. Your body. Your future. And I… I’m just the safety net. The one you fall back on when it all goes wrong.” “I never wanted to hurt you,” I whispered, the words breaking, useless even as they left me. His eyes snapped back to mine, blazing. “Right” His chest heaved, his voice rising. “You’re still doing it. I’ve offered my name, my protection, my silence, my future, you still choose him.” My throat closed, my body trembling. “I am sorry.” The words barely left my lips before Tony surged to his feet, his chair scraping harshly across the tile, the sound grating against my nerves. He dragged a hand through his hair, pacing the small, sterile room like a man who couldn’t contain himself,

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 93: You can never be him.

Chapter 93: You can never be him. **Christiana’s POV** Imagining getting married to Tony irritated me in a way I couldn’t even put into words. The thought clawed at my skin. I tried to picture it, to paint the scene in my mind while he sat there pouring his heart out. But no matter how I turned it, it felt wrong. It felt like pressing myself into a mould that wasn’t mine, like forcing a puzzle piece where it didn’t belong. It felt like incest. That was the only word I could find for it. He wasn’t my brother, by blood, but he was close enough to it in my heart. He had always been there steadying me when I stumbled, his laugh chasing away my storms, his presence like air: invisible, constant, taken for granted.. He wanted to be more. I honestly didn’t know what to say. My lips trembled around silence. I shifted against the pillows, clutching the sheet tighter, but it didn’t help. The truth had me cornered. Tony sat on the chair beside my bed, his fingers gripping his knees as tho

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 92: Convincing

Chapter 92: Convincing**Tony’s POV**I thought I did a lot of convincing, you know. I thought the words I said to her would make her consider the fact of it and do my bidding, but she was still reluctant about it and it was beginning to piss me off “Tony…” I shook my head quickly, cutting her off before she could refuse, before she could break me with words I wasn’t ready to hear. “I know what you’re going to say. That it’s not fair. That it’s not right. That I deserve someone who loves me the way I love them. But Christy…” My voice cracked, raw, and I leaned closer until my forehead almost touched hers, until I could feel the heat of her breath against my lips.“…I don’t care about fair. I don’t care about right. I care about you. I care about keeping you safe. I care about giving this child a name that won’t be dragged through the mud. I care about protecting Bryan from the kind of scandal that could destroy him when he’s already broken.” Her breath shuddered against me, close e

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 91: Love without end

Chapter 91: Love without end *Tony’s POV* “I don’t know what you want me to say,” she whispered finally, her lashes wet, her cheeks streaked with tears. “I wanted to ask you to marry me,” I admitted, the words bitter on my tongue. They felt foreign, almost poisonous, but they were true. “I told myself I would wait until you took over the Salazar empire. Until you were ready. I thought…” My voice broke, jagged, and I forced the rest out through clenched teeth. “I thought you needed time.” Her chest hitched, and I didn’t give her room to answer. The bitterness surged again. “At first you talked about your childhood love from Chicago, how you were waiting for him to marry you. Do you know what that did to me? It shredded me, Christy. But I waited. I told myself you’d get over him. That eventually…” My laugh came out cracked, hollow, an echo of all the years I’d lost. “… but while I was waiting, you gave yourself to Bryan. You gave him what should have been mine.” She shook her head

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 90: Ridiculous Tony

Chapter 90: Ridiculous Tony**Tony’s POVI could see the extreme shock in her face when I said that. For a moment, she just stared at me like I had spoken another language. “Tony…” she whispered finally, her voice trembling. “You can’t mean that.” “I mean it Chrsity, you have to let me adopt the child as mine” Her mouth fell open, stunned. For a moment, she just stared at me, as though the words hadn’t made sense. Then she shook her head quickly, almost violently, her messy hair brushing her cheeks. “Tony, what? Why would I do that?” “You have to.” My voice cracked, then hardened. “How do you want to carry another woman’s husband’s child?” My tone came out sharper than I intended, the bitterness spilling before I could cage it. “You shouldn’t carry that shame” Her face twisted, a trail of guilt flickering in her eyes. She pressed a trembling hand to her stomach as though she could shield the life inside from my words. “I can’t… I can’t let people think you are the father.” Her v

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 89: Say Something

Chapter 89: Say Something **Tony’s POV**I despised the smell of antiseptic more than ever now because of the hurt burning in my chest. The walls of the hospital pressed in around me like they were holding me prisoner, mocking me with their stillness. I was now sitting in the room Christiana was admitted to. Machines beeped softly in the background, a steady, rhythmic reminder that she was alive, that she was here. I hated how vulnerable she looked. No wonder her skin glowed the way it did, pregnancy glow. She was asleep still, her face turned slightly toward the window where a thin strip of sunlight cut across her blanket like a delicate thread. Even in rest, she looked troubled. Her brows were furrowed, her lips pressed into a thin line as though her dreams weren’t any gentler than her waking hours. And yet she was beautiful. Beautiful in that effortless, maddening way she had always been. Beautiful even now, pale from exhaustion, her hair a tangled mess against the pillow. Sh
