RHETT

“I’m on my way.”

I end the call and toss the phone onto the desk. Less than five minutes later, the door opens, and Dane steps inside. He's my VP and my most trusted man. His eyes move from my face to the fresh mark on the wall before returning to me.

“You want to tell me what happened to the wall, or should I pretend I didn't see it?”

“Pretend you didn't see it.”

He nods solemnly. “Got it. The wall attacked first.”

I give him a flat look.

“Right. Serious business.” He shuts the door beh

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Too smart

MIAMy stomach twists.Slowly, I turn toward him. He's watching me from behind his desk, his expression calm in a way that makes me far more nervous than if he'd simply frowned."What?""Sit down."I hesitate before lowering myself back into the chair.Rhett rests his forearms on the desk and studies me for a moment. I keep my eyes on the papers in front of him, hoping he'll get straight to whatever he wants to say so I can leave.Instead, he asks, "What's wrong with you?"My head lifts. "Nothing.""Nothing?""Yes."He tilts his head slightly."Then why have you been avoiding looking at me since you walked through that door?"My heart stumbles. For one horrible second, I'm certain he knows. He knows what I was imagining, and why looking at him now feels like the most embarrassing thing I've ever had to do.But that's impossible. He can't know. Can he? I know he's too smart but he possibly can't.I force myself to shrug. "I'm not avoiding you.""No?""No.""Interesting."His mouth curv

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Mental curse

MIABy the time I finish getting dressed, I have almost convinced myself that the dream never happened. This is ridiculous. It's a dream. Nothing more.I can't afford to complicate that arrangement by developing nonsense for Rhett. And I certainly can't afford to start imagining what it would feel like to have him touch me again.I shake my head, grab my phone from the nightstand, and head for the door. The woman who came to wake me is still waiting outside. She leads me through the compound, and I follow her down the familiar hallway toward Rhett's office. With every step, I remind myself that I have nothing to be nervous about. Rhett is simply the man helping me get away from my husband. Whatever happened in my sleep has nothing to do with the real man waiting for me behind that door.By the time we reach it, I've almost managed to calm myself down. The woman knocks twice before opening it."She's here, Prez.""Let her in."I step inside, and the first thing I notice is that Rhett i

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Wet me

MIAI glare at him, but the effect is ruined by the heat spreading across my cheeks.“Goodnight.”I turn before he can say anything else and head for the door, determined to get as far away from him as possible before I do something even more foolish than kissing him back. I am halfway down the corridor when I finally allow myself to breathe properly. What on earth was I thinking?I kissed Rhett. I actually kissed him, and the worst part is that I wanted to. I wanted him close enough to touch me, wanted to feel his mouth against mine again, and for a few reckless seconds, I forgot everything that should have stopped me.I forgot Saint. I even forgot the secret I am carrying, the one reason I cannot afford to let myself become careless with my my body.I press my lips together, as though that will somehow erase the memory of his kiss.It doesn't.By the time I reach my room, I am thoroughly annoyed with myself. I close the door behind me, cross the room, and sink onto the bed with a h

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Testing Her

MIARhett's gaze travels from my eyes to my neck before settling on my face again. The slow smirk that spreads across his mouth tells me he knows exactly what he's doing.I hate that my body seems to understand his intentions before my mind can decide how to respond. Heat creeps up my neck, and I suddenly become very conscious of the fact that I'm sitting in his workshop, alone with a man who looks like trouble dressed in a black sleeveless shirt.“What would I mean by something else?” I ask, trying to sound unimpressed. He pushes away from the workbench and takes a step toward me. “I don't know. You're the one who asked whether it doesn't bother me.”“I didn't specify it the way you're taking it.”“Really?” He tilts his head, pretending to consider it. “Maybe I misunderstood.”I open my mouth, but nothing comes out. The infuriating man looks entirely too pleased with himself.“That's what I thought,” he murmurs.I narrow my eyes at him. “Do you always enjoy making people uncomfortabl

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Tell me then

MIA “Is there someone else you're trying to protect?” For a moment, I forget how to breathe. Rhett stands in front of me, watching my face with those sharp eyes that make me feel as though every lie I have ever told is written across my forehead. He hasn't raised his voice and that makes this worse. He is simply waiting for an answer, confident that if he gives me enough time, I will eventually tell him the truth. I cannot do that. My hand almost moves to my stomach before I catch myself. I fold both hands together in my lap instead, pressing my fingers tightly against each other to stop them from shaking. “No,” I say. The answer comes out too quickly. Rhett's eyes narrow slightly, and I hate that he notices everything. “No, there's no one else, or no, you aren't trying to protect someone?” “Both.” I force myself to meet his gaze. “I'm not protecting anyone, Rhett. I just don't want to spend the rest of my life here.” “Then why two months?” “Because that's how long I need.”

  • Craving The Wrong Man   Look at me sweetheart

MIAHe starts to rise, wiping one hand against a rag, but stops halfway when he notices the shopping bag clutched in my fingers. For a moment, neither of us speaks. Then his gaze returns to my face.“Are you feeling sick again?”“No.” I answer too quickly, then clear my throat. “No, I'm feeling better. I just wanted to talk to you about something.”He studies me for another second before straightening fully. Standing beside the motorcycle, he seems even bigger than he did in my room. The sleeveless shirt reveals the breadth of his shoulders and the tattoos winding down his arms, while the grease on his skin gives him a roughness that no expensive suit could ever imitate. He tosses the rag onto the workbench and reaches for another one.“Okay. Talk.”I take a few steps into the room, suddenly aware that I've rehearsed this conversation several times in my head but haven't prepared myself for actually standing in front of him.“First, I got something for you.”His eyebrows lift.“For me
