I Can Function Well

Elizabeth’s POV

Standing in order of precedence, each person starts to take turns in thanking me. “Thank you, Madam.”

Erm, this is confusing, sudden, unexpected…

What are they thanking me for?

Am I still alive? I pinch my cheek. I’m still alive.

I almost think they are simply being sarcastic that I caused them trouble, but it’s not looking like it. They don’t sound like it.

After thanking me one after the other, they begin to return to their various posts while Moana walks up to me.

“Thank you, Lizzy.” She smiles warmly.

“Moana, I’m confused. What are you thanking me for?” I ask silently.

“Cut the pretense. We all know you spoke to Mr. Ethan on our behalf.”

How did they know that? Did he…?

“He decided to let you guys eat today?” I ask quickly with widened eyes. I can’t believe it. I don’t believe it.

She nods before walking away, smiling as she did. “Thank you.”

Alexa and I are left. The girl literally skips over to my side with joy.

I’m happy too. Who’d have thought he won’t
